I am doing some tweaking to my first draft of a screenplay, and I need help on an issue. This is R-material, so I use some bad language. Mostly, the bad one starting with "f".

I counted in my script, it is used 56 times! I am attempting to limit the words use cause that seems like way too much to me.

What is the most you feel it should be used?

Well does it have a purpose or is it sometimes just used for the sake of it?

Length is 81 pages.

That translates to how many minutes?

For the record, I already don't think the word 56 times is that much in an R-rated movie, but I'm interested in the f-word/minute average. That's really the most important factor. A lot of movies can get away with one every minute, but at best one every two minutes is usually the norm.

You should only use it when it's absolutely necessary IMO. I thought the f-word can kill a movie like the Halloween remake. I thought they were saying it just to say it. But something like Scarface it didn't take anything away from the movie.

In a screenplay, it is the rule of thumb that 1 page = 1 minute of screentime (on average). Using this rule, it'd be around 81 minutes not including end credits.

True. I might leave it as is then, and see if people comment on it when they read it (after rereading it first of course).

You should be fine. As long as it feels natural.
