"There are rumors kicking around that Pandemic is developing a new Batman game (which, for the record, would be sweet), but so far there has been no
official announcement of a game based on The Dark Knight. Not only is this incredibly odd, its too late for one to be announced. EA still controls the rights, and theyre not exactly ones to shy away from the easy money of a movie tie-in. What gives? Theres a lot more going on here than you might expect.":

This guy brings up some good points. In a gist, his article states that WB had hired EA to develop games for Batman Begins, Superman Returns and Catwoman. All of these games had less than stellar reviews and WB was less than pleased by the efforts. As a result, the much smaller
Pandemic studios was given the development job for a TDK game. EA flipped out and claimed they still had the licensing rights...next thing you know...EA buys Pandemic. WB, according to the author's speculation, may have canned the game completely to keep Batman out of EA's hands forever.
If this is all true, then it's good news and bad news. The good news is, WB realizes that Batman is a license worthy of greatness, and they are no longer going to allow big developers like EA tarnish the character with crappy, mediocre tie-in games. The bad news is that there may not be a TDK game at all now because of Pandemic's ties to EA...or at least until EA is expired from or bought out of any contractual agreements.
I sincerely hope Batman finally gets his just due on a current and next gen console...if Spidey can have 4 solid games why can't Batman have one?
Hopefully WB has just been hawking the secret production of this game...carefully supervising every step while waiting for the right time to release the right information.
WB has actually penalized game designers of percentages in the past if critical reviews are below a certain average. It shows they care about their product which is refreshing to hear for a bunch of suits. Could be they didn't like the direction in this case and said "F it...if it's not perfect, it's not comin out!"...But to be honest...I know this may be the wrong mentality...but I'd rather have a slightly above average Batman game on a next gen console than no Batman game at all.
And I'm talking about a massive free roam Batman game...on an engine similar to Assassin's Creed. I don't care for Batman as a lego (
awwww lookit The Joker, innee cute? ) or Batman vs. a 90's has-been side-scrolling Sub-Zero in a cross over universe that makes
no EFFING sense at all .
I can see it now....
Guy walking out of theater into Game Stop: "Wow! That was
intense ! That was the
darkest and most
chilling Batman movie ever! Heath Ledger's Joker was so
sick, twisted and utterly terrifying ! If only some one could combine the dark universe of Batman with the light hearted wholesome fun of Lego...wait...what's this??
Lego Batman!!!"
