Neil Blompkamp's Chappie

I like die antwoord. Ha I thought yolandi's line about neil bloomkamp "making her a movie star" was just a random rap boast?

Robot based comedy from Blomkamp? Yeah, I'm in.

i think he talked about this when promoting D9.

Alright, sounds awesome. After District 9, I plan to watch everything this guy puts out.

I'm interested in anything with his name on it, but every time this guy has a new project announced that isn't District 10, I feel disappointed.

I'm actually really not interested in any hypothetical District 10 film.

I'm far more psyched for a D10 movie than anything else Blompkamp could be doing, not only because of how awesome D9 is but because of how blatantly open-ended it is.

The studio already made it clear that they want one.

Yeah, we have waited long enough for District 10, he needs to do that as his next movie definately.

I love District 9 mix of scifi, dark humor, spectacle and social commentary. Kinda reminds me of Verhoeven, I can't wait for Elysium and this one too.

It sounds like a very gentlemanly film. Sort of Jeeves and Wooster in space, which would be awesome.

Robot comedy? as a robot myself, I approve.

Die Antwoord is one of our favorite musical guilty pleasures. I cannot wait for this. And Copley being involved too? Count me in twice! Yo-Landi and Ninja playing the lead roles just makes it all the better. Now I have to go watch "Umshini Wam" again. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Good weirdness there. :woot:

Dev Patel(Slumdog Millionaire,The Newsroom) in Talk For Human Lead
dev_patel.jpg

Dev Patel is in early talks to come on board Neill Blomkamp’s science-fiction project “Chappie” opposite Sharlto Copley.
MRC is financing and Simon Kinberg is producing. Blomkamp is directing from a script he wrote with Terri Tatchell.
“Chappie” would be the third teaming for Copley and Blomkamp following “District 9″ and the upcoming “Elysium,” which MRC is also financing.

“Chappie” is based on “Tetra Vaal,” a short film about a robot police force patrolling the slums of South Africa.
Copley would play the police robot and Patel will play a man in the impoverished town.
Patel will be seen next in HBO’s “The Newsroom,” which premieres Sunday. He’s repped by UTA.

Whoa, nice. That's pretty interesting news.

Cool I like Dev Patel. Amazing how successful some of these Skins cast members have become.

The original Skins cast was the most talented Skins cast by far.

Yeah, the second season had a couple of interesting peeps. After that it went down hill. Nothing can top the first cast though.

I'm excited for this. I hope he gets to keep his British accent.

Two of the original Skins castmembers are on Game of Thrones now. So, by association, I have to give Skins a

Blomkamp offered a new description of what this film is about in an interview with Wired Magazine.

Chappie, Blomkamp says, is about sentience: “If something is as smart as you, do you treat it differently if it isn’t a human?” He’s cowriting Chappie with Tatchell, who describes the script as laugh-out-loud funny but also emotional. “It’s fairly touching,” Blomkamp confirms. “But, you know, fraught with gunfire.”
