The other reason the PS3 is still really tempting to me, is the Linux component period is going to end up being awesome, even for people who don't know how to code or anything. Just point us little monkies in the right direction with all your fancy Linux apps people.

Impossible on a PC, not impossible on a closed console. That's like honestly expecting the "you can run XNA code on 360" crap to lead to emulators on the 360. Never gonna happen Zenien, this will be killed, sued, abandoned, etc.

The difference is the Virtual Console will work flawlessly, be legal, and be around for more than a few months at a time.

To be brutally honest the VC is 'lacking' right now. Most emulators these days are good enough that 99 percent of these older gne (pre PS1/N64 era) run flawlessly. Heck there's a really good PS2 emulator up adn running now that plays a lot of PS2 titles and you can even enable extra AA, higher resolutions, triliniar filtering, some hacked self shadowing etc... though you need a dual CPU computer or a dual core or whatever.

Yeah. Pretty much all of the NES and SNES emulators I've tried run indistinguishably from perfect, and MAME runs pretty much all of my favorite arcade classics "arcade perfect". There's not really a whole lot of room for improvement when you've already reached near perfection.

Also, Virtual Console's games are limited in selection and over priced.

Any price is overpriced when compared to a free emulator and ROM.

Still, $10 for an N64 game is absurd. I can buy the actual carts for less than that, and Sony is offering PS1 games for download for only $5. IMO NES games should be $3 and N64 games should be $5-6.

However, free is definately the most desireable option... Even if you have to be a little sneaky about it.

Because downloading free roms is usually illegal. No-one really cares though, and that includes the publishers in large part.
