Netflix coming to PS3

What's the deal with the install disc? Can't they just update the firmware?

So, is this still only for people in the United States?

It´s cool for the PS3 owners, it couldn´t be exclusive for the 360 forever, but, it´s also a bit....errr....weird.

Doesn´t it makes the blu-ray movies completly irrelevant?
And, isn´t that one of the PS3 main selling points?

announced on the day I switched from Blockbuster online to Netflix. Awesome timing on my part

I wanted the feature on the 360, but unfortunately I didn't want to subscribe to Gold purely for it. I guess patience really pays off in the end, since this will be totally free for me. I hope it'll run smoothly and everything. Not sure how well the service is through live

Yeah, I find that a little on the odd side, as well. Not a big deal, but you would think a firmware update would be simpler

How do you figure that?

Um why would you say that? Sony already has a video store with tons of movives. That hasnt made BR irrelevant at all

Don't they offer all of Netflix's instant streaming library? If so, it's not that poor of a selection. Pretty decent one actually

no clue. But I heard it being complained about on a podcast.

The 360 libary, which is the exact same one as the online one...it's the same thing, is pretty damn good.

More options for me, which is better.

I know free is labeled on everything here, and I hope it stays that way. This is great news.

Btw, I just read Joystiq.com's posting of the news, and it's interesting what they mentioned.

What will Microsoft do to losing to exclusive rights to Netflix streaming? Maybe open up Netflix for Silver members? To see if they counteract it?

My guess is, they won't go that far.

It's great on Live, especially with the recent update that allows you to browse through the suggested movies from different genres and either watch or add them to your queue, before the update you could only look at your instant queue on the 360.

Sweet. I use it on 360 and the selection is pretty good. I believe it as at 17,000 pieces of content. Sony is putting it into overdrive for the holiday season. I wonder if the BD disc is connected to each individual user, to discourage people sharing their account info to access Netflix? I am guilty of that on the 360.

I don't think they'll do anything. Microsoft doesn't give a damn about Silver members.

Maybe i´m reading too much on the subject, but, it´s cheaper to stream the movies from Netflix than to buy them on BD disk, so.....
But, hey, i´m glad for the PS3 users, not that i use Netflix, i´m from the Europe.

Make them open their eyes a bit, that would be nice for a change, even if i believe the 360 will make a huge comeback in 2010 as games goes.
As for Netflix itself, i don´t see it as a selling point for the PS3, it´s more of one more cool thing to add to the PSN.
People that really wanted Netflix on console already bought a 360, so...

Yea i do that to so if the PS3 prevents that, i wont be using it on that system.

This is fantastic for Sony and the PS3 as i feel this is the beginning of the end for Live. Live will be forced to drop its fee or be content with second place. Once the PS3 gets cross game chat, Live will have nothing to offer its users that the PS3 doesnt do. Live is finished.

Yeah, but it's not like you can get every movie on Blu-ray streaming on Netflix or something, and the actual HD streaming quality probably won't be up to snuff to a disc. It's not a guarantee that the movie will be up for stream forever or anything. Plus, by this logic it would stop DVD use and sales.

Awesome.

Netflix will cut into the rental market, not Blurays. It's similar to whats been going on for years between other rental services and DVD. They coexist and dont directly compete with the other

Is this what I was wondering. The disc is free show I just ordered mine separately from my Dad's.

I am so excited about this news! :awesome:
