Netflix Orders Black Summer Zombie Apocalypse Drama Starring Jaime King

Per our sister site Deadline, Black Summer stars King as a mother who, having been torn from her daughter, embarks upon a harrowing journey to find the girl. Alongside a group of American refugees, King’s protagonist “must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions” in the midst of a zombie apocalypse’s deadliest summer.

Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, who also co-executive-produce Syfy’s zombie series Z Nation, will serve as co-showrunners on Black Summer.

Just caught the first 4 episodes.....

Much better than z nation. The acting is ok. The direction is quite good. There was an episode solely focused on one out of shape dude running, getting up the school bus escaping from a zombie..etc. It was just like the camera was mounted next to him and it felt authentic. They took that whole episode well.

The problem with this is........the problem i have with zombie series as a whole. The characters make $hit decisions throughout the show.

1)Running away from zombies....lets leave the door open shall we.
2)Trusting strangers
3)Trying to help some small kid and get killed...

BTW, the zombies in this show seem a whole lot smarter than TWD. Was z nation that way too ?

That's why mutants >>>>>> zombies.

Interesting.

I never heard of this show before, but I'll check out the first ep. later tonight.

I like a good zombie story, I really wish the Black Tide rising series by John Ringo could be made into a TV series, although it would probably have to be on HBO since all the zombies are naked and casting for SheWolf and SeaWolf would be... challenging to get right.

I really liked the first episode. I've never seen Z Nation so I may have missed some little hints or clues, like I'm really wondering about the man casually whistling while walking down the street. It was quick, but I feel like I'm missing something there.

I love Jamie King and thought she did really well with her brief scenes. I'm going to binge through the rest of the season this weekend. Loved the dark vibe it had, my big problem with Z Nation was that it was more humor than horror and I wasn't crazy about it. I did hear that it really improved later on so I may give it another shot depending on how much I like Black Summer.

Recap below for anyone interested.
