Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

They have some legit stunt people for the show, so that might be true. But are we going to act like Blackwater, Watchers on the Wall, Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards and The Queen's Justice never happened? I don't like The Bells because of what it ended up giving us character and story wise, but it was so beautifully shot. Also GoT at times was massive. Are we really going to see something on the scale of the episodes I listed?

So basically you don't like her look :o
Not really, but this is how fancastings happen - if I think she's hot then she fits the role. It's really irrelevant if I like her look or not. I like Christina Hendricks. Doesn't mean she's perfect for Yennefer.

I’m less worried about whether the action tops GoT and more concerned about the lack of praise for the actors or characters or writing, other than one mention of it being “well-cast” and “smartly-structured” while referring to it as fantasy-pulp nonsense in the same breath. Unless there were more tweets that article chose to ignore.

Joey Batey's Jaskier is perfect and has the voice of an angel.

A single reviewer described it as 'pulp nonsense' (while being positive overall). Another praised anya and henry. This could still go either way but lets not overreact.

I'm not a Lord of the Rings fans, so I've never seen those battles you mentioned.

just a reminder... as vision said earlier, Cavill is on kimmell in about half an hour

Ugh how they are gonna play off the Fringilla love triangle in later seasons is beyond me after seeing her in the trailer.

Full interview with Henry.

Cavill is such a funny guy in real life. I hope that this show is able to tap into that charm a bit so he's not all dark and brooding the whole time. Obviously being grim is more appropriate here than it was in the Superman movies but I hope some director is able to bring out his more fun side.

Two music tracks from the show were just released:

Geralt of Rivia theme

Toss A Coin To Your Witcher (first time we're hearing Joey Batey/Jaskier sing)

yea i get a kick out of him being such a beast and being a big gamer lol

They're doing a bad job of wanting to differentiate from the games because they obviously take a lot of cues from it and Geralts theme almost sounds like his theme from TW3 but definitely sounds like it would fit in the game.

Think I'm gonna give Witcher 3 a shot this weekend as I've owned it for way too long without playing it. I know this show is based on the books, but I just wanna get a feel for the world. I find some pre-existing familiarity usually enhances my enjoyment of these fantasy movies/shows with a lot of world-building.

I second that notion, The Witcher 3 is why I love these characters and world so much. The aesthetic, the music, the relationships, it all does it justice and in my opinion ends the series on a much better note.

Play the two expansions as well, they are amazing.

Knowing books enhances Witcher games too. Countless little nods and call backs that impossible to get unless. Witcher 3 is perfectly enjoyable on it's own, but I replayed it after I finished book series and rediscovered so much stuff I didn't think was anything special. For example, Yennefer beginning a letter to Geralt with "Dear friend...". It's one thing when you play the game on it's own and it's completely different if you read the books.

Went to the comic con, watched a new fight scene (not really a trailer), it's amazing!

It looks super good, the moves are exquisite...

Really looking forward to watching it.
