Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

Two music tracks from the show were just released:

Geralt of Rivia theme

Toss A Coin To Your Witcher (first time we're hearing Joey Batey/Jaskier sing)

The music turned out really good, especially for Jaskier.

I'm all for something different but what even is that Geralt track? Yikes.

Style is obviously there, but I think the catchy melody isn't. Unlike, for example, the battle theme from Wither 3 (lelelei song).

yea but the geralt track sounds a lot like witcher 3.. not sure what some of you heard but i thought both were pretty good. maybe you need to get your ears checked.

IM KIDDING DONT HURT ME

I thought it sounded good and did sound sort of reminiscent of that fight type music in the games.

Geralt's theme just sounds like a cacophonous mess. It is reminiscent of the fight music in the game, but its like some amateur tried to make their own remix of the fight music on their home PC with canned and synthesized audio elements.

Joey Batey singing on the other hand sounds really good, and his song has a really nice rythm.

I really dont wanna play another run through but the music and the fact that I have a PC now is making it difficult lol

Well now that I'm actually playing the game, I'm really starting to feel all the "Cavill is miscast" complaints. :funny:
Thing is, I could see him being Geralt. Not great, but he could deadpan a little without looking like he is having a seizure. He can grin, but not really smolder, but he could do well enough. I just guess no one told him that. Well that or no one involved has read the books or played the games...

so much crying in this thread. it's gotten silly. i'll say it again, we should prob wait til we actually get to watch an episode.

but i know that won't happen... so if y'all need some tissues, i'm selling them $5 a box plus shipping.

that's the spirit... give the damn thing a chance first.
I think most in here want this to work. I just think what has come out so far hasn't inspired confidence that it will. Which is how marketing works really.

Yennefer's expanded story is intriguing. I hope they made magic and visions really scary. I still need to get used to this Yennefer, BUT I think Chalotra has chemistry with Cavill and the shots where they're together were the best so far of all promo materials.
Dandelion is perfect.
Overall, it looks really good. Some shots look like the games recreated in live action.

Excited.

I hope this delivers been waiting for a long time for a movie series or show
I just hope Netflix delivers and the Yennefer feature posted above is great

IMO for the show to even remotely have the chance to reach GOT levels
that character has to deliver

the games are the first RPGs that I actually took time to beat on the hardest difficulty [once I got the new game + ] and played with all my upgraded spells and magic lol

or maybe expectations are ridiculously high. expecting a better game of thrones vikings black sails lotr... we really havent seen enough to be so judgmental. im just saying lets watch 1 episode first. im not entirely happy with everything but netflix already wants a 2nd season. im not sure if that means it awesome or not but it means something must be special. 11 days. if you arent here to suffer or celebrate with me... ill be very angry with you.

This kind of expectations comes mostly from people familiar with the games and the books. It's hard to blame them. Games are stellar, especially 3. After couple of hundred hours you get so attached to the world and it's characters, you feel horrible emptiness when the adventure ends. I doubt I can name more than 5 games that did this to me in my 25-year gaming "career".

i dont need this to be better than GoT to enjoy it on some level, I highly doubt its a "GoT killer" anyway but the comparison seems inevitable just because of the medieval/fantasy setting. A lot rests of Cavill's shoulders but he was pleasant and enough of a screen presence in Man of Steel to give me some hope. Not long to find out anyway.
