The easy difference between the channels:
Disney is the one with the cheaply produced sitcoms.

Nick is the one that shows lots of reruns of their own cheaply produced sitcoms.

Catoon Network is the one with the loud guy sitting in a Roller Coaster screaming at some kid that just ate a cheeseburger or chili dog.

I agree with this. Cartoon network however has gained a lot of live action recently. Also, as an anime fan, Toonami used to be the place for that stuff, and mos tof it was pretty good. Now CN doesn't even show Naruto and it originally had a huge American push for it, not to mention the dubbing was actually decent, and the edits were pretty minimal overall. We'll probably never get Shippuden on TV now. Disney is worst in my book. I can't stand that f'ing Hannah Montana. Nickelodeon I actually miss the live action it used to have, like Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and Are You Afraid of the Dark. Not to mention, Nick at Night 10 years ago was pretty awesome versus 12 episodes of George Lopez and Family Matters.

Nick at Nite has strayed way too far from it's initial concept if you ask me. Nick at Nite should be airing sitcoms at least 20-25 years old. Instead, they're airing stuff like George Lopez, which debuted in this decade (the 2000s)!:whatever:

People are forgetting that Nick, which used to have a lot of really quality shows and was more interested in using good TV to entertain kids without talking down to them, has for the past couple of years been using the same formula as MTV.

Nickelodeon might as well change its name to the "SpongeBob & iCarly Channel" and get it over with!

Got to go with Cartoon network. Totally walked away from its mission.

Disney is still watched by kids and they primarily are still following their mission of kids/family entertainment. But they mostly do live action because that's what's appealing to kids now. Plus the shows are cheap to produce.

Nick- Don't know much about them.

But the Ultimate in Network Rot is MTV and BET. MTV has devolved into crap since 1992 and BET- That network will cost you brain cells each time you turn past it flipping channels. If you put those two up there MTV would win the Poll with BET as a close second.

Most of these networks only buy cheap shows now. Syndicated packages of popular older programs like Fresh Prince, Roseanne, Boy Meets World and Family Matters cost a lot of money. The reason why we don't see more of these shows on cable is because of the high syndication fees that networks have to pay to air them.

George Lopez did fairly mediocre numbers in the ratings, and WB can offer it for a lower price point in their syndication packages. This is why we so much of it nowadays. Was there ever a laugh on that show?

When I was 2 ..disney

When I was 12.. nick

Now...cartoon network

In a way, yes Disney is still following their mission as being a family entertainment channel. Unfortunately, they since the early 2000s, have strayed further and further away from its core. That being, a tribute to all things Disney (a la Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, etc.). Disney Channel from say, 1983-2002 (even after it became a basic cable outlet in 1997) was a general audience outlet (meaning that adults could enjoy it for the pure nostalgia value, like from Vault Disney).

Then, enter people like Rich Ross, and Disney proceeded to completely sell out in order to be a soulless, all out trendy, tween destination. I don't even know what day of the month it is watching Disney Channel know because they keep airing the same old crap. People like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez (and before that, Hilary Duff and Raven) have been way, way overexposed. Disney Channel now, is pretty much, an excuse to mold and build up a star through a TV show and later a music career (Disney has there own record company, Hollywood Records and Radio Disney after all).

and being extremely succesful at it....I'm not a fan of The Mouse, but when it comes to directing things toward a young audience, no one is as good

The only reason the Disney channel is so successful now is because they stole all of Nickelodeon's top executives.

The Mouse pays well, and anyone that usually gets canned from Disney ends up at Nick

My thing is, most of the people over at Disney now were responsible for greenlighting shows like Clarissa Explains It All and The Adventures of Pete and Pete, and now the best thing they can come up with is Hannah Montana?

well it is the most successful original program they've seen in years....if it ain't broke....

The shows on Nickelodeon in the 90s always seemed to be quirky and weird. The shows of the new millennium are to bland and conventional.

but if that's what kids respond to, then they're going to go with it...Hannah Montana is, as a concept, no different than something like Kids Incorporated or California Dreams

To be honest with you, I would be fine with the current direction of Nickelodeon (Nickelodeon is the only one I give a crap about.) If they had a network where I could watch the 80s and 90s shows.

Does Disney still do that whole 56 episode policy, where a show on Disney will have to cancel after 56 episodes?

That's So Raven was the first show I think, to surpass the 56-65 episode policy (making 100). Kim Possible soon followed (even though, the show had to be uncancelled in the process) and more recently, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (if you consider The Suite Life on Deck to not be a seperate show, but actually, the fourth season).

Hannah Montana however, contains an easily exploitable formula (i.e. to turn into a cash cow). Miley Cyrus in her Hannah alter ego (and being that Miley herself, is an actual singer), sings songs on the show, and later turns them into hit records. It's really no different than the toyetic cartoons from the 1980s (except for girls in Hannah's case).

Definitely. I think BET worse because other than showing crappy hip-hop songs and shelling most other black artists out, they ripoff a lot of bad MTV shows (College Hill, The Hills), and have basically went to actually reinforcing stereotypes instead of straying away from. With that saying, The Black Panther animated series might change my mind :woot:.

Cartoon Network is the worst.

Disney- That Wizard show is actually funny and the show Phineas and Ferb

Nick- It has Spongebob and Avatar?

Cartoon Network- Has a cartoon of a reality show. Nuff Said.

Nickelodeon has fallen the furthest, followed by Cartoon Network. As far as I'm concerned the Disney Channel has always sucked.
