It probably wont pass. Most likely it will be voted on again and again every couple years, and within the next decade it will finally pass.

I actually disagree with the way they are going to do it. 45 dollar tax on an ounce is too low actually if you ask me. The companies who make it can sell it profitably for 50 cents an ounce. I think the taxes should bring the cost to 5 dollars a gram and over the next ten years bring it to 2.50 a gram and leave it there.

That's kind of my thinking. The Fed's have a way of applying pressure on this particular issue by threatening to withhold dollars on all kinds of things. Oregon has been trying for years to get marijuana legalized and always buckles.

Wow, you've given way too much thought to this t:.

based on how many people smoke pot now and how often they smoke it, and taking into consideration that the number of people who smoke it would probably go up, I'm guestimating that on average 30 million americans would buy a gram a day. that's one joint or two small joints. and with my plan that's five dollars.

assuming that 4.50 cents of that is taxes it would generate a tax revenue of 79 billion annually. that's more than the war in Iraq costs. not to mention the money state governments would save on not having to arrest and prosecute, and the negative impacts that it being illegal has on people's lives. A lot of toherwise law abiding citizens end up getting mixed up with the wrong people because of this. I remember a time when I would have liked to have called the police, but didn't because of marijuana. I know that is my own fault for having broken the law, but it does not change the fact that the drub being illegal only made the harmful effects of the drug worse. The law is only making things worse.

If state residents vote to legalize it through due democratic process, then it should be legalized.

All 50 states should similarly vote on it IMO, but that's just the Libertarian in me talking.

This isn't gonna happen... Canada was supposed to legalize weed a few years ago, but I don't see that happening in the near future
