New Batman Film "The Dark Knight Project" premieres Monday - but you can see it here!

Not to be a rude or anything, but doesn't this belong in the Bat-World forum? This has nothing to do with Nolan's film. Its just a fan film.

That was real good! The batman costume was pretty darn good his voice needs some work though. The woman who played sarah essen was actually a good actress. You should have picked some differnet people for the kids though. But all and all realy well done. Congrats!

Agreed (cept I spell it different). They reminded me of kids acting in an educational video.

Interesting. I don't know how I feel about having Essen in there, but other than that, nice effort.

URRRGH those kids. That girl deserves to be hit. But hey, it was pretty good. It's the setting that I watched it for!

You spent $14,000 on that?

Do you have any idea what production insurance costs, filming permits, a motorhome rental for crew cover on the streets, food for the cast and crew, police car rentals and HD camera support equipment cost?

Not to mention the cost of assembling a studio quality batsuit?

I don't know if you've ever worked in professional film production, but yeah... even at that price, this was cheap to produce, given the cast and crew were all volunteer.

Thank you V...

My official website is at www.nitestar.com if you would like to see more of my work.
I didn't elaborate much earlier, so here goes...

I really liked the concept of looking at Batman through the eyes of the 'ordinary' Gotham residents (the newstand guy; the kids; Essen - nice touch having her, too) - something that Nolan touched upon in Begins with the homeless man and little boy. I think this was the strongest aspect of the film, and it's not something I've ever really seen other fanfilms try to tackle.

I thought that the Bat costume and clown masks looked excellent, but I felt that the confrontation with Bats against the gang didn't quite work here. It seemed as if it belonged to another film; it seemed to jar against the mood you had set before. It was nicely shot (really liked it when he dropped down on them) and choreographed but just didn't match the tone from earlier on in the film. It also seemed strange how Batman let the kids keep the tape...

Overall, it gave me the vibe of the B:TAS episode, "Legends of the Dark Knight" - and I kind of wish it had stuck with just interviewing Gotham citizens about the Batman and whether he was real real or a myth. Batman on the outskirts of the piece, like the Gotham Central series where he's like a shadow and the focus is on (typically) minor characters. Maybe the kids could have been following Batman's trail across Gotham and found people who had caught a glimpse of him, or found the pile of beaten clowns; they were always one step behind him.

Overall I think that you did a great job. You took a different approach and something like this film would have been brilliant for the viral campaign; it could have been shown via Gotham Tonight.

It was shot and composed very nicely indeed. Tightly edited with strong sound effects and a fitting use of the Nolan scores. The production level was of a high quality. Have you got any more of you work online? I'd be interested to see it.

Actually all the aerials were "borrowed" from "The Fugitive" and "Batman Begins". But we did get on a rooftop at the end for the iconic final shot of bats jumping off into the night...

JV

I agree. Especially loved the aerial shots. I'm guessing a good amount of the budget went to renting out that helicopter which is a bold move for a fanfilm. Props to that.

Try producing a professionally shot HD film with costumes, permits, HD equipment, a crew that needs to be fed and transportaiton rentals, and you might see ;-)

JV

It was a nice fanfilm, but I can't possibly understand where $14,000 went on it.

The girl wasn't bad like Holmes was. Batman should have taken that video tape if even this is for class project.

He decided it might be time for Gotham to see him in action, to help his war on crime... and how he pounded the **** out of those clowns. It might deter some criminals...
Nice work! Are you getting it shown anywhere?
Just online... I offered it to the San Diego Comicon to show, but they didn't have time for an 11 minute addition... if people want to see it projected on a big screen, it makes a huge difference in presentation, I myself was shocked at how well it played visually and in that scale.

JV

So the guy student was the director and the "actress" was some chick he's pounding, yes?

It was kool though.

Ummm... no... I'm 42 and I cast both teenagers through a casting call.

Have some respect for underage kids who put themselves out there to entertain people, huh?

JV

I liked the movie but God I can't stand that girl. She says "Are you getting this?!" like 5 times and it gets annoying after the first time. I wanted to mute it every time she talked. The fighting scene with Batman was pretty good though and I liked the visuals of the city at the beginning of the film.
