New Ben-Hur adaptation

I would love him for this if I wasn't almost entirely certain this will be crap.

Hiddleston and John Ridley are the only hope this film has of being good. But most likely Ridley's script will be rewritten into something barely serviceable, and what little quality that is left will be sucked out of it by Mark Burnett, Roma Downey, and Tim Bekmambetov.

I'm having such a hard time imagining Hiddleston in something like this. :funny: I feel like his look only works on certain genres if that makes sense.

MGM and Paramount's upcoming Timur Bekmambetov-directed remake of Ben-Hur has officially added its first cast member. Deadline reports that Morgan Freeman who, earlier this week, signed on for Seth MacFarlane's Ted 2, will play Ildarin, the man who trains Ben-Hur.

We learned last month that Tom Hiddleston was being eyed for the title role, but no official decision has, as of yet, been announced.

Set for release on February 26, 2016, the new take on Ben-Hur was originally scripted by Keith Clarke (The Way Back), with revisions by Academy Award-winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). It is based on Lew Wallace's 1880 epic novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ."

The film is said to return to the heart of the epic novel with a focus on the nature of faith. The story follows a falsely-accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him. Both must come to choose between retribution or forgiveness.

Producers include Mark Burnett, Sean Daniel and Joni Levin with Jason F. Brown, Keith Clarke, Roma Downey and John Ridley serving as executive producer.

Well, with Roma Downey behind it I guess I need not fear their omitting the "A tale of the Christ" elements.

"I wish I could tell you that Judah Ben-Hur rode quietly into the night. I wish I could tell you that."

Just to be very clear, Hiddleston passed on the part three months ago, he will not be BEN-HUR

Someone needs to wear a watch during the chariot race as an easter egg homage.

Jack Huston

It's too bad this will probably be awful, that's some good casting.

While it's easy to dismiss this thing as potentially underwhelming,it looks like they are at least trying to put some talent in these roles....

Yes, I'm still extremely skeptical but so far that's only because this movie is being made in the first place and not due to any bad decisions they've made yet. Granted they've only made a couple of decisions so far so there's plenty of room for this to get screwed up.

I was rewatching the Chariot Race from the classic and Jesus Christ, it's unreal how good it was. The battle at sea is also another great scene from the film.

But I'm looking foward to this one. I miss a roman epic, even though this will be more about religion. I guess?

I think they used large miniatures in the naval battle in 1959.

Toby Kebbell Eyes Antagonist Role in Ben-Hur Remake

It's been a busy week of casting for MGM and Paramount's upcoming Timur Bekmambetov-directed remake of Ben-Hur. Following word last night of "Boardwalk Empire" star Jack Huston landing the title role, comes word, via Variety, that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Toby Kebbell is eyeing the antagonistic role of Messala. If he signs on, he'll also join Morgan Freeman in the cast.

Set for a release on February 26, 2016, the new take on Ben-Hur was originally scripted by Keith Clarke (The Way Back), with revisions by Academy Award-winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave).

Kebbell can be seen playing Dr. Victor Von Doom in Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four and also appearing in Duncan Jones' Warcraft.

Producers include Mark Burnett, Sean Daniel and Joni Levin with Jason F. Brown, Keith Clarke, Roma Downey and John Ridley serving as executive producer.

This is the first I'm hearing about this. Good grief remaking Ben- Hur!:wow:

There's somethings you should NEVER remake.

I agree that Ben Hur shouldn't be remade, but if it is and Gal is in it, then I'm more interested than before.

I believe it's being produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, who produced the Bible mini series. Maybe they'll be impressed with Gal as Esther in Ben Hur, and cast her as Queen Esther (not a related character) in another Biblical epic.

They arent remaking the 1959 film, which was itself a remake of the 1925 silent film. They are doing a new adaption of the original novel that came out in 1880, and the new film is supposed to have a different focus from the 1959 film.

Someone not British is playing a Roman...what is this nonsense!?:p
