By now, I presume most people will have heard of the upcoming biopic of German Great War ace Freiherr Manfred Von Richtofen, better known to friend and foe as "The Red Baron".
What I'm curious about- has nobody ever noticed the suggestive similarity DC's character "Enemy Ace" has to the real -life Von Richtofen- they were both Rittmeisters(Captains of Cavalry), both of noble birth and both seemed to regard the whole business of war as being a distasteful necessity to put it mildly, although the fictional Hans von Hammer seemed to think that it was still the one place where men could fight like knights, with honor and gentility?
I've always had a sneaking admiration for Von Hammer- a brave man is a brave man, despite whatever flag he fights under and/or the nature of his government. As an allied intelligence report noted, "he is not a callous butcher , indifferent to the human cost of the war- he only fights out of a sense of duty to his country as well as honour."
Does anybody else think as I do?
