Watchmen Extra Revelations

Infamous extra leaks news about the movie’s casting, ending, and just about everything you might want to know

We’ve reported on blabbermouth extra “Cassandra Faust’s” insider Watchmen movie reports before, but this one is a real doozy.
Apparently, “Faust” in her travels as an extra has met and spoken with a few folks who have worked on the film and they have told her quite a bit… allegedly.
And because I know all you die-hard fans will just skim to the end to read this first I’ll just start off by saying: Yes, according to “Faust,” the squid” is in.
She also states that she’s been told the supplemental material at the end of the individual issues of the comic series will be included in the film in the form of newsreel-style reports and even describes a scene between president Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger.
In discussing Rorschach she explains that we’ll see his “tragic childhood” brought to life including scenes with his mother, the bullies and in the garment factory, plus she details some elements of the confrontation with Big Figure inside the prison. She also dishes that the last scene Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan share will play out exactly as it does in the comic.
She even confirmed two new casting choices including Danny Woodburn as Big Figure and Zack Snyder’s son Eli as the young Walter Kovacs. No big surprises there as Woodburn’s part has been rumored and on the Watchmen IMDB page for months, and most fans assumed Snyder's son would get cast as “little” Rorschach since he appeared in dad’s last film 300.
As far as the Antarctic climax and the film’s ending, she had lots to tell. All of the important details aligned well with what happens in the original comic series but with some “Snyder spin” that doesn’t really mess with the core of the story. And even though, as I said earlier, she claims that the “squid” is in, she does not discuss the fate of Adrian Veidt. Hurm.
So, there you have it. If it’s all true I’m guessing most Watchmen fans will be breathing a sigh of relief for the most part. All I can say is from what she has told us in the past, some of it has definitively been confirmed and none of it so far has been proven wrong.

know i cant wait to see rorschachs origin played out.

The Squid is in? The Squid is in? Thank you, lord!

I wonder if the squid will behave differently in the movie than it did in the comics? They say it will "wreak havoc and destruction." Does that mean it'll roam through the city, killing thousands in it's path? Or will it truly do that psychic overdose thing it does in the novel?

If he's willing to keep the Squid, I'm sure he's willing to keep its movement.

there should little to no "snyder spin" in this movie.

There's nothing wrong with a director adding his own signature to a film he spent years of his life working on.

Every indication is that Snyder is being extremely faithful to the story, so don't get all worked up and defensive about one little comment.

(Not saying that this is what is going to happen) I would really rather have Veidt live than the have the squid. If I had to pick. Which hopefully I don't.

What was the point of saying that, exactly?

Well I could scan the comic book and make a nice powerpoint for you, if you'd like...

But seriously, the film-maker's touch and style is what elevates an adaptation from a simple re-enactment to actual cinema. It's to be expected; nay, demanded.

Who said Veidt wasn't going to live?

No one, but if I recall correctly every Watchmen script before the current shooting one (which no one has) all have Veidt dying at the end.

So Snyder's boy is playing the young Kovacs? Hehe, that's funny that he cast him twice in a row as mini-psycho.

If Fraust's report is true, Snyder has managed to convince WB that the Squid should be kept. I'd imagine he'd try hard to make Veidt live.

If this is true, that the squid is in, and that more of Rorschach's past will be seen, then know that Zach Snyder has made some key, key changes to the "Transformers" draft, and is fighting the good fight to a degree I had not expected prior to hearing this. He has taken it from "mostly faithful" to "uber faithful". That is something we can all feel good about as this movie approaches.

The final battle is whether Veidt lives or not. The draft before Snyder's still had him dying, and the thematics of it almost, almost work.

I cannot explain how excited this news makes me, having read something recently that made me pretty sure he "got it".

I just hope Zach Snyder can "get it" out of the actors in this film. I know they are all excited as hell to have worked on it, and I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far (except for Comedian and Silk Spectre's wigs), but I want to feel some true human emotion from these characters when it hits the screen.

hmm, im interested/concerned as to what this "snyder spin" is. i mean, while i generally trust snyder, i just dont see why its necessary.

Snyder has stated that he will keep the ending:

"I’m sticking to the hard edge and all of the bickering that’s in Watchmen. If you don’t do that, you shouldn’t do the film at all. The reason why is that the movie works as an answer to what’s out there. It did that as a graphic novel, and it needs to do that as a film. If you want to take out the edgy bits, then don’t bother making it. Never mind! What happened [when previous filmmakers tried to put the graphic novel into] script form was that everyone tried to figure out, ‘How do I get this guy over here and that guy over there?’ They were only trying to get the mystery, the story, to work, where as my concern is the other stuff, the philosophy of it. I'm going to make a movie that I want to see. I honestly believe people are tired of Hollywood’s watered-down films. It’s refreshing to see a hard movie."

The Squid is part of the ending--not the entire ending. I mean, he can keep The Squid, and still kill Veidt and still claim he kept the ending.

Here's something that hasn't been brought up yet:

The article said that the final scene with Rorschach and Manhattan is kept in its entirety, correct?

Anyone who has read the GN knows why Rorschach left the building to go back to America in Archie and tell the truth about the New York incident. Manhattan stops him, of course.

This would mean that killing Veidt would only defeat the point of keeping to the story so closely.

If we are to assume that Snyder understands the various themes and POVs of the GN, as has been said numerous times by himself, the cast, and the crew, then I think we can safely say that the ending's full purpose will not be compromised.
