Could the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles be returning to the big screen in a new live action film? The Playmates Toys website has the following statement:
“Following the success of the ‘TMNT’ theatrical release in 2007, Mirage licensing and Imagi studios have begun work on a new live-action TMNT film for 2010. It’s the turtles like you’ve never seen them before! Shellalicious!”

As much as I enjoyed the TMNT animated feature, I was left longing for the old live action films, as bad as they might have been (Remember the Ninja rap?). I really wish that with the expected success of The Dark Knight, that Imagi would consider making a darker TMNT, something closer to Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird’s original vision. But I doubt they will go in that direction. Also, Imagi is a computer animation studio, which makes me wonder if the live-action aspect is a typo or maybe that the turtles will be cg in a live action world.

No, I agree. But the original premise of the comic was darker, something to show the way teenage boys really act and talk. That's what a lot of fans, myself included, want to see. By it's very nature, the material and tone of the next movie really needs to be a hard PG-13, bordering on R.

I don't think we did an R TMNT.Paramount wouldn't go for it anyways.A movie along the mood of the first one is fine.

The first film is the most underrated film in history.

For those who haven't read the comic the very first issue is a straight up revenge story. Splinter even states the reason he trained them was so they could kill Shredder. it is not a light hearted family friendly comic. The turtles have no qualm killing members of the Foot.

Now I would love a movie based on the Mirage comic. In fact that would be a TMNT fanboy wet dream but I don't see it happening. Really I think the 90's movie got it right, the balance between comic/cartoon was about the best we could get.

Maybe because I grew up with the cartoons and not the comic. BUt I dont wanna see the comic version. The whole fact that Splinter basically wanted to use the turtles as tools of revenge is a worse characterization IMO then his cartoon counterpoints.
Also I didnt like the characterization of the turtles in the early comics

All I really want is:
-A tone that has funny moments, fun characters, dark villains, and dark environment (Kinda like POTC or the new Sherlock Holmes)
-The turtles look good
-Mikey's "dudeness" to be toned down
-No or less puns/one liners during fights
-The fights to be awesome. That's where the live action films understandably fell short for me

I wouldnt mind the Turtles slashing non mechanical enemies either. I wonder if PAramount would allow that

Yea and Shredder gets killed off in the very 1st issue.. regardless I love Volume 1

As flawed as the original cartoon was, it DID add alot to the Turtles mythos. Some for good.

For example, the different colored masks which was a great idea.

The different colored masks were actually Peter Laird's idea, so it all goes back full circle. :awesome:

It didn't really matter that they all wore red masks in the comics because the comics were black & white to begin with. Once the Turtles made the jump to other mediums, that's when the multi-colored masks were implemented.

Well, so was Bebop and Rocksteady but they later fell out of favor for the original creators by the time 'Secret of the Ozze' was in production.

Honestly, I wish Bebop & Rocksteady were placed in the Mirage Comics. Just change them up so they're not as cartoony.

Alot of fans have voiced their affinity for Bebop and Rocksteady, but unfortunately the decision was to keep them regulated almost exclusively to the '80's toon, and that's it. Occasionally throwing fans a bone with nods to the characters with the 2003 animated series, until FINALLY a return appearance in Turtles Forever.

Wouldn't mind a less comedic portrayal either. It's easy to see why people consider them too cartoony. As the '80's toon emphasized comedy to a great degree. Though their portrayal in the Archie Comics were eventually taken a bit more seriously, which was great, it's the '80's toon people are more familiar with.

does any one when the ninjaturlte new moive come out? i heard 2012 or 2013 not sure. i hope they put Bebop and Rocksteady my favorite moive i teeange mutnat ninja turtles . so i watach it once a week.i finealy got it on blu ray for christmas gift. check out chrisitan ninja turles video its really funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3zID-htRfA&feature=related

As the series went on we got to see more of the paternal side of Splinter. The cartoon did have an affect on the comic I believe as the stories got a little lighter. So both are great for what they where, and influencing each other. I really would like a mix.

is it possible to get the mirage comics in tpb, i'll be honest i've never read them

Unfortunely they were collected in the early 90's and recently when the blue ray set came out they collected the first eleven issues in a hardcover but they are all very hard to find.

Didn't they want to release more of the TPB but once the property got sold to Paramont, now the future volumes are in limbo?

The first TMNT movie and the newer cartoon series had the tone down perfectly, IMO. If they keep it along those lines, they can't go wrong.

Also, can anyone help me out? I'm looking for a TMNT story where the turtles travel to a distant land and fight various mythical characters/fable types. I think it was back in the original run, as there was a LOT of blood. Anyone know the name of it?

It is issue #43 of vol 1. The name of the story is Hall of Loss Legends. A very good story.
