I don't know did he actually say the turtles were aliens? I have said I would give this movie a chance at least until a trailer comes out but I have zero faith as time goes by in this movie.

He did last year, and along with the script leak of the rough draft, and Paramont delaying production due to script problems, it didn't help the early stage of the production. However, it seems like things are in working order.

LMFAO, I love the damage control here: http://news.moviefone.com/2013/04/26/michael-bay-pain-and-gain-interview_n_3163480.html

You have “Transformers 4” coming up along with the new “Ninja Turtles” movie. What is your approach to taking on established properties? Is it seeing the fandom and trying to work from that? Or do you build it from scratch?

There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great. But I’m getting away from your question. Your question was...

That is funny.

Especially after talking about how the characters in Pain & Gain were so delusional in how they believed that they were in the right. Then he goes on to say that he never said that the turtles were going to be aliens, but then the link leads to an article where he says just that.

Talk about delusional.

Ahhh, Bay you are a shyster, but you know how to put money on the screen.

name calling, especially super successful people won't get anyone anywhere.

Long story short, you're wrong.

this is why I dont flip out about stuff in pre production...things change

Bay is full of **** But as long the origin is the ooze and close enough to the comics then I'm happy!

I know that movies sometimes require you to suspend your belief but I just simply can't deal with the fact that Megan Fox is supposed to be an intelligent news reporter, April O' Neil.

That's like asking me to believe that Denise Richards is believable as a nuclear scientist in "The World is Not Enough" or Jessica Alba is believable as a scientist in "Fantastic Four"

Before the whole Megan Fox casting, I was actually excited about this project.

Now, I just couldn't really care much about this movie and I probably and most likely give it a pass when it opens in theaters.

April O' Neil is such an iconic character from my childhood....and to have Michael Bay to mess around with it.....I have no words.

People flock to the theaters to see the "Transformers" movies because of those giant robots. It's not because of Megan Fox. Her character is just eye candy. The third movie still made lots of money even without Mikaela Banes.

And even if this new Ninja Turtles movie make money, it's because of the franchise, the household name, the people who grew up watching Ninja Turtles cartoon in the 90s and most importantly the Ninja Turtles themselves.

I really think that Megan Fox got the April O' Neil role because Bay wants to repair/mend his relationship with Fox.

did they say April was gonna be a reporter in this one??? In the comics she was just Baxter Stockman's assistant.

In the original animated series and the movies, April was a reporter. In TMNT, she was an adventurer of sorts and in the majority of the comics she Baxter stockmans assistant. Not sure which role I liked her in the best, to be honest.

Would be cool if she was an aspiring reporter trying to find her way on TV, so she goes undercover as Baxter Stockmans assistant, trying to get a story that will land her a News Channel 8 Job, meeting the Turtles along the way, incorporating all incarnations of the character

In the leaked script for the film, April's an 18 year old intern at CBS but your idea would be pretty cool imo.

Bay may say its the ooze but in the first script it was the ooze still but later on the twist was that story splinter told them Was a lie and they were from dimension x

So he could be telling the truth and tugging us along just to get the fans back

Here's Laird's thoughts on this: http://tinyurl.com/cpdwcqn

If memory serves, Mr. Bay said some months ago that in the new movie, "these Turtles are from an alien race". That's a pretty straightforward comment which I think anyone could reasonably take to mean that the Turtles in the movie Mr. Bay is producing will not be mutated Earth turtles, as in the first twenty-five years of the property's history, but Turtles from an alien race of Turtles. I believe that the script which made its way onto the Internet also made it quite clear that -- at least at some early point in this movie's development -- the Turtles were, in fact, to be alien Turtles from a race of alien Turtles. Taken together, I think that's fairly good evidence of the intention to make the Turtles aliens.

If that was NOT in fact Mr. Bay's intent, he could have easily corrected this misapprehension months ago, instead of letting it go on this long. I suspect in part that might be due to the fact that he probably has a lot more pressing things on his plate, and this was of minor importance. I can't say for sure because I don't know him, and I have nothing to do with this new movie. I am grateful for the clarification, because -- as I pointed out in an earlier blog post -- I thought the idea of making the Turtles aliens was creatively bankrupt.

That's not to say that there might not be a really great story to be told about a race of anthropomorphic alien turtles -- just that it seemed to me to be a totally pointless exercise to change the TMNT origin story in this way.

Now, I suppose one could kind of maybe sort of wiggle out of that original statement by claiming that the ooze which mutated the Turtles and Splinter in the original comics was created by the Utroms, who are aliens, so… well, the ooze was FROM them, see… and THEY are an alien race… and… and…

It's either total spin now, or a colossally inept articulation in the original statement, in my opinion. Regardless, I think all TMNT fans should be happy that this issue has finally been clarified.

Reading Laird's comment about the alien origin being "creatively bankrupt" brings me back to thinking about TMNT II, and one of the few truly great moments that film had. I loved the idea that Don would question their existence in light of their being just an accident. It's one of my favorite aspects to their story, and it's one I wish would get played out more.

In the first script she was a reporter. It's likely they didn't change that.

The fans who were brought up on the cartoon and original movies know her as a reporter. I'm talking people like my wife, who didn't even know there was a 2007 feature film. Personally, I like her better as a scientist. It feels like a much more organic, logical connection to the turtles. Given their nature, and Splinter's need to shield their existence, I never bought that they'd be willing to maintain a relationship with someone whose purpose is to speak to the masses.

If you can suspend disbelief long enough to buy ino 4 mutated turtles who know martial arts and enjoy Pizza, occasionally fighting aliens, mutants and robots, I think Aprils occupation is practically irrelevant at that point. Hell, Lois Lane spent her career trying to find out who Superman was, while Clark was working with her disguised by a pair of glasses.

Split the difference and make her a scientific reporter, Jesus. Like she has a blog or does some indie reporting work for an online nerd think tank or whatever.

I'm with Terry. Isn't that how it was in the IDW comics anyway? A journalist whose focus was on science and tech?

Given the history of the character, there are so many possible jobs they could give her.

I'm telling you right now: Just adapt the IDW comics. It streamlines everything, and makes great compromise that can please most fans, even the hardcore ones.

^^This 100,000%
I love how they told splinters/the son's origin, I love the homage they used to the red mask, I love the inspiration of Raphael's rage, the inclusion of Casey. It's all very very well thought out and awesome.

Yeah, I have to get those IDW trades NOW. They sound really really great.
