New Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie In The Works? - Part 4

It sounds like the toys are prototypes (early stages) so I'm glad the overall design is rather usual for TMNT but I'm going to hold off on actual judgement until we actually see something more tangible.

The designs sound pretty good to me other than Shredder still having bare arms.

The bare arms are clearly a throwback to the 87 series, but yeah....... don't think it was a good idea to translate that to live-action.

I'm curious how fans will respond to such things.

Kinda like when many fans wanted the (DESIGNED FOR ANIMATION) boxy transformers designs over the folded open cars that lead to believable realism(transformed cars). Or a volks wagon over a muscle car bumblebee.

bare arms is a design aesthetic of the 80's that even the 90's movie was smart to discard. But fanboys should appreciate aesthetic over logic...that is, if they are consistent.
I doubt they are though.

I like turtles in different attire. It's going to lead to identity and not just a bunch of green dudes with colored fabric on their faces. Again, curious how fans will react.

Am I the only one who has some faith in this movie?

I have plenty of faith. I think it's due to the names behind it, the brand and casting of fox, it's going to be solid hit for the studio. Kids will flock.

I also think at worst, it could be wrath of the titans/battle LA, at which point it will be torn apart by critics and distraught fans. And things might be distorted.

The trailers are going to be awesome though. JL has a great eye. I also think the release date is a mixed bag. There is no serious competition in aug, and a solid film can have a solid run. But the audience mentality around that time won't allow for a show stopping hit that people skip work for and what not.

This movie will definitely be a hit. And it should have cool visuals with awesome action. I just hope the movie's fun enough for me to want to watch again and again. Nothing forgettable, either. The Titans movie has that problem.

I think with Bay involved that is less likely to be the case. Say what you will about him he can make some fun movies to watch even the ones he is only a producer of.

Shredder sounds incapable of doing any 'moves' without cutting himself.

I don't have any faith because I hated the director's previous films. I'm not that hard to please despite what some might think. Fox is fine for April, you don't need a great actress for such a role, just a passable one.

I do think anyone who has expectations of a Ninja Turtles movie being high art are setting themselves up to hate it. I'd be fine with a well made, well paced dumb and fun action film.

I am just worried it will be the next Airbender, it just seems that way right now but I'm hoping that feeling will change once we see official pics of the Turtles, Shredder and Splinter or a trailer.

I'm liking the descriptions I hear about the Turtles and Splinter. The idea of the Turtles personality already showing in the way grey dress is an awesome idea. We do that as humans so it makes sense that anthropomorphic Turtles would do it as well since they have the same emotions, wants, and needs we have

I'm still trying to figure out why Shredder's cape is metal.

Also, again I ask, why do the Turtles need to wear clothes other than going under cover or in disguise? It's not like in any of the incarnations we've seen their penis come out. Same for any anthropomorphic characters in cartoons, movies, etc. The Turtles have always been individuals by their different personalities or bandanas (of course if you count the original issues where all their bandanas were red). They don't need clothes to give them individuality.

i like what i heard about the Turtles look, but not too sure how i feel about Shredder

sounds both cool and lame

The descriptions sound kinda funny.

I just realized how similar Alan Ritchson and Pete Ploszek look-alike. Good thing they are playing "brothers".

After all these years of following the Hype boards, I can't believe my first two posts are about Guardians of the Galaxy and TMNT, lol. In all seriousness though, at least I was a huge fan when the original animated series was on.

I think it's a bit too early to freak out, since none of us have seen what they're going to look like with our own eyes. I so strongly want the movie to be good, especially since I loved the 1990 film so much, but I'm open to being convinced by changes if it looks right and works within the story they tell. Film adaptations will always make changes; there's no stopping it.

And if we're being honest, I would think any of us can agree that when watching that 1990 film in this day and age, we might love it dearly ... but we know that there is potential to do it so much better with the technology in place today. I feel the need to at least reserve judgment until I see it in action. At least a trailer.

I'm sure this will be far from amazing. I hope it's at least on the level of 2007 Transformers. Which I think is a pretty fun movie.

I was able to fully enjoy the 2007 Transformers film for exactly what it was. I know this is a Michael Bay film, but anyone that knows the history of his movies knows what you're getting into. All you can hope is that it will be a fun ride when you're there. I would admit that his track record recently should lead one to believe that it'll be entertaining. His entire track history would tell you we'll be getting some epic shots and action set pieces. Just keep crossing your fingers they remain "not aliens" and we're good! :mikey:

1. Bay isn't making this movie...though the more people that believe that, the more buzz and people will no doubt go.

2. There hasn't ever been an amazing and substance filled movie based of this material, at best there is something that is imo at the 2007 Transformers level but with more subtleties as the ninja material would demand(vs transforming alien cars).

1. Well, sorry ... produced by Michael Bay, :yay:. You're right, he's not directing, but I'm pretty sure his influence will be obvious, as it's normally as subtle as a punch to the face. :cwink:

2. I'm with you, and I'd love to see a fairly serious take. The casting of Megan Fox alone, however, screams more of a Transformers type feel than anything else, so it's kind of what I'm expecting going in (without knowing/seeing more). Most would probably consider this material as absurd as Transformers (human-sized mutant turtles vs. transforming cars/aliens). If I were to be unbiased and looking at it from the outside, they're both equally unbelievable in concept and I'd have to agree.

Believe me, I'll be more than happy to be wrong. Bring on the substance-filled TMNT! :applaud
