Fantasy New Lord of the Rings movies in the works

I don't know what to tell you. In the book, it is made explicitly clear that Saruman is after the Ring for himself. If you're talking strictly about the movies, then sure I suppose it's up to interpretation on whether he was serving Sauron or himself.
Yeah, mainly the movies I was referring to. The books are a different can of worms.

Gotcha. In that case, as far as I know it's never made explicit. I think the closest it gets is when Saruman was trying to corrupt Gandalf to his cause and Gandy saw right through him.

"There is only one Lord of the Ring. Only one who can bend it to his will. And he does not share power."

Regardless of Saruman's intentions I think it's still pretty clear how it would have turned out had his Uruk-hai managed to grab Frodo and make it back to Isengard. Saruman would not be able to resist the temptation of the Ring long enough to give it to Sauron even if he wanted to, as he is much too power hungry.

However, said power hunger makes any other scenario than him planning to betray Sauron when opportunity arises quite unlikely.

I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise.

It would be cool if he did come back. As the kids say “do I make you Aragorny baby”

He'd only be back for something of the quality of the original LotR films that took into account an age appropriate role for this character. Makes sense and of course they won't go for that despite how good it would be for fans.

I'm happy he'd be willing to return but I'm just depressed that Ian McKellen is not, in fact, immortal. :csad:
Yep, and definitely the same for Viggo, such a big part of why these films were so good for me. I’d quite like to see veteran Elijah Wood Frodo again one of these days. :grimace:

How much padding are we expecting here?

It wouldn't surprise me if the actual hunt for Gollum takes up half the movie while the other half is all flashbacks seeing what Gollum was up to between The Hobbit and LOTR.

Meanwhile, what's going on with War of the Rohirrim? Its out in December and we're without a poster, teaser trailer, or at least some first look photos!

"They were saying, ‘Andy we really want to reinvigorate Middle-earth. There are so many fresh stories that we want to get involved with. We want to launch this new wave by taking us back into the world of Gollum.' They asked me to direct," Serkis said.

Could this movie possibly have "Bad Idea" stamped across its forehead in bigger, redder letters?
