New Mutants New Mutants News and Discussion - Part 2

Well, both would be adaptations, not direct translations. Inferno would focus on Magik and S'ym rather than N'astirh and Madelyne Pryor. I'd argue Mr. Sinister was not the main villain in that story and was actually a bit of an afterthought. He's certainly not necessary even if much of the story happens in his shadow.

I mean, the way I see it, Mr. Sinister is pretty much the catalyst for everything that happens in Inferno aside from the S'ym stuff. He's the reason the X-Men go to NYC, he's the reason Madelyne becomes insane (when she and N'astirh confront him) and then he attacks the X-Men at the end. But that gets me wondering if an adaptation of Storm/Magik where Belasco was the villain might be better than the Inferno part of New Mutants.

Let's face it. If Inferno is a New Mutants movie, it's not going to have Madelyne Pryor at all. But, even if she was in it, we wouldn't need Mr. Sinister since he was behind the scenes until essentially the equivalent of post-credits scene. He's the fight in the Shire in the Lord of the Rings after they return from the ring being destroyed.

The story came from two separate motivations. One was the Demonchylde stuff that had been building with Magik essentially from the beginning. The other was a way to finally deal with Scott leaving his wife. The latter ended up taking the priority, but the former was grounded for much longer and would be what the movie would be about anyway.

Looks like this film is being canceled.

To be fair, the film was being reshot from scratch. Would be interesting to see if Marvel keep the Fox casts or do a hard reboot. A soft reboot likely won't include continuity since Fox continuity is a mess and I feel like Jennifer Lawrence is gone since she isn't very good as Mystique. That and there's a need to bring back Emma Frost, Archangel and Apocalypse.

More interested in the Fantastic Four since the FF have never had a good movie.

Hmmm. This could be legit, but it could also be fake. Wonder where this leaves NM, and I hope X-Force gets made.

I can’t see them totally cancelling it after spending all of the money on it.

Most everyone involved in production has kinda known about the fate of this movie for a while now. We've all been in a state of denial I suppose.

Despite our best efforts and attempts to please all parties involved, (IE the addition of new characters & lightening the tone) the mouse has taken the house, and overruled the fox. My understanding is that the order has been unofficially made that this movie is to not be seen by the public, in any manner.

It will see the light of day though, hopefully in an official capacity (not looking very good at this point), but there's simply too many people involved to keep it from being seen by the public. If a release is completely blocked, a version of film will be leaked at the very least.

As bad as the cut may be, we believe the fans should have the right to see it.

No wonder we kept hearing about ATJ not returning, she just knew before we did.

Sad times for everyone involved.

Well, we'll see what's up. The property has a lot of potential but as usual they don't know what the **** to do with it. All they had to do was adapt Demon Bear in a PG-13 fashion. That's it.

Fox didnt believe in Boone's vision in first place, as The Wrap revealed.
They changed minds after IT and stranger things.

Fox never knows how to adapt this property, it definetly seems like after 18 years, they havent learned a thing.

They signed Boone for his vision, then didnt fully believe in his vision, so changed some stuff, then It happened and Fox went back to day 1 thinking Boone's first vision was right after all, while adding EVEN more characters, because that always helps.

Good job, Fox. keep it coming

This is not even close to what happened behind the scenes. For once, Fox is not the bad guy here. Boone was the cause of the downfall of this movie.

I find that odd. Disney technically shouldn't be allowed to have any say until late next summer.

They don't have any "official" control over this stuff, but they don't need it, the fox execs know the deal is done and so does Disney, so Disney, for all intents and purposes essentially has control over Fox already.

Basically if you're a startup and some company buys you out, even if the ink isn't dry yet they'll still try and exert some influence.

Seems like Disney would get in trouble for attempting premature ownership.

Yeah I just don't think things work that way. I don't understand why people don't believe Fiege when he says he hasn't given any thought into the merger or these characters yet.

Disney don't really need to exert any influence right now, and legally they can't. But NM is not scheduled for release until after Disney has taken control. And while Disney can't give orders they can let it be known that once they get control the film is dead. Which puts Fox in the position of wondering why they should keep paying people to work on a film that will be killed as soon as the deal completes.

Given Fox's overall "business as usual plan," I don't buy for a second that they're already choosing not to release a movie because Disney is saying so - especially since the movie could even be released before approval and neither company likes the idea of wasting the money spent.

Damn, that is messed up for the cast. Charlie just did the cast read through today for S3 of Stranger Things, Maisie is still filming Game of Thrones, and Anya is filming Radioactive in Budapest (though she might have wrapped). Does this mean no reshoots? I feel bad for the NM cast, idk if they are under contract to be available for reshoots or if they are free to make other films in the meantime, but what a disaster.

Yeah, CBM reported this as a rumor. While the story could be true, there's absolutely no reason to conclude it based on this "source."
Anything will get reported as a rumor at this point. Even things that aren't really rumors or aren't true.

Terrible. This is Fox's fault and everyone involved, looking at Kinberg and Boone. If they just made a movie that feels like the New Mutants, this wouldn't be canceled. Its pretty embarrassing. But at least the mouse would get to do their own take to the property in the future.

Rumor, at this point, seems to be "someone said something and we can't confirm it." At some point in the past, that was a reason not to report it at all, but everyone is afraid of missing out on a scoop so they'll post everything, carefully label it in the "maybe" category and then pretend there are no consequences if they're wrong and that they were geniuses if they were right. It's one of the reasons I don't like Bleeding Cool for comic book news (despite probably being the one most likely to break a story). They have no sense of professional responsibility or journalistic ethics. They don't believe there's a journalistic duty to verify something before it gets printed.

The internet, of course, has made things worse. It's far easier to create these stories anonymously that then spread. On top of that, the business model of these sites has to be through clicks and ad revenue, which means they don't care as long as you click on the story to find out if they have a source or not.
