Hi all! A couple of days ago I was at walmart and they were selling the first four seasons of Smallville for $15 apiece. I had never seen the show before (I don't get the WB where I live), but I had read enough about it that when I saw the awesome deal at walmart, I knew I just had to take it. So far I've watched the first 11 episodes and my current opinion is that it's not quite what I was expecting, but it's interesting and I don't feel like I wasted my money. The plots seem a little generic, but I'll attribute that to first season hiccups (the first season of Buffy was iffy too, but that series improved greatly in the long run). Hopefully when I get into season two it'll be better, but for now I'll put myself down as a fan. So, just to start some conversation, what was your first impression of the show when you started watching it?

The first season is mainly just full of one-off villains and generic plots, the second season actually starts getting into the Superman mythology (but only a tiny bit I guess), so I hope you like the rest of the series and I hope you stay around the Smallville boards!

Welcome to the fold, captain marvel, but for me?

I didn't want to watch the show initially because I was afraid they were going to "ruin" superman. While that's a debatable point by some 'round here, I'm glad I started watching sometime in season 2. (I think my first episode was Visage, which isn't a great episode to start watching it on... believe me. I had no clue what was going on.)

Eventually, I got curious enough to get the first two box sets (the third hadn't come out yet) and fell in love with the show after finally seeing the pilot.

The rest is, as they say, history.... ;)

Now it's my favorite show.

Yeah, I pretty much watched the first season, and loved it. The second and third I caught up with on DVD. I had tried to watch it on ABC Family but only saw an episode here and there and was totally confused.

I loved Season 4 and Season 5 was even better, although it did fade towards the end of the season.

Season 6 has been great so far, bar last night's episode.

Grrrrrrr!!!!!! :cmad:

Dang, wish someone would sell Star Trek DVDs for that.

i was an avid watcher of season1, but season 2 conflicted with a class at the time so i had to watch it on re runs and when the box set came out. three was good, four was a lil iffy, five started with a bang and kind of fizzled (there was a lot of speculation that 5 was going to be it), and six is shaping up to blow them all out of the water.

My fav episodes are rosetta, relic, exile, commemcement/arrival, Zod, flash, cyborg, reckoning, Pariah, and Ageless.

ok i was kidding about Ageless.

I've watched Smallville since the beginning. I tuned in to the Pilot solely out of curiosity and because, next to Bats, Superman is my favorite characters. I also have to admit that I was really skeptical in the beginning. I had a lot of the same prejudices that some people still have. Namely, I thought Welling and Rosey were too "pretty" to be Superman and Luthor. Though I was intrigued with the premise of a young Clark Kent growing up in the present.

While I really dug the Pilot, Smallville still wasn't appointment television. Sure I watched all the eps (mostly) but my life didn't revolve around it. It was some time toward the end of the season, though, where I started to really fall for the show. And the cliffhanger in Tempest made me eager to come back next season.

But the moment Smallville went from being "just another show I watched" to "unplug the phone and lock the doors, it's Smallville" is clear as day. Second season's Rosetta w/ Chris Reeve. From the moment Clark walked into Dr. Swann's to the strands of the Krypton theme and two Supermen stood face-to-face, I won't lie, brought a tear to my eye. From that point, I've been a loyal Smallville disciple. (Though "Static" was the epitome of everything I currently can't stand about the show! :cmad:)

I started watching Smallville since the very day the pilot aired. I was so hyped! :D. I love the series... I disagree with a lot of what they do there... but it's Super-freakin'-man (well, a young one, anyway)... how can you NOT love it? :P

Anyway, glad you got into it, and do youself a favor, and whenever you buy Season 5, skip "Thirst" :D

SV was a show that a lot of my other online friends kept telling me to tune into, but the first 2 seasons were a very busy time for me. I never got around to watching more than an ep or two until maybe halfway through the 3rd season, and I was pretty much hooked immediately. I bought the previous seasons and caught up right away and haven't strayed since.

it was on channel four for the pilot like it was a big show on prime time and i liked it. then it was moved to sunday afternoons on their teen tv shows and i didn't watch. i got back into it when the channel lauched a spinoff satallite channel E4 and they put it on monday nights at 9. That was season 5. i also went and watched the main channel on sundays for season 4.

Welcome to the family. I always say (and just said it recently to a friend of mine who wants to buy all the boxsets and start watching the show for the first time) that season 1 you enjoy and like but it's season 2 that makes a fan out of you. It's also one of the strongest seasons along with 5 and 6. And the third one was also very good and dark. Keep in mind that on season 1 you are just starting to figure out Clark as he's figuring himself out. In 1 he only knows he's an alien but doesn't know anything about where he came from and has no idea what lies ahead of him so he really concentrates on trying to live a normal life and winning Lana's heart.
So it's a very light season. But in a way I miss those days too...
My first impression was probably the same as yours. I loved the pilot and I liked the series enough to follow it but I didn't think it was extraordinary as a show or as far as acting.
But that will improve as you go along and you will see the actors growing up in experience and talent just as you watch their characters grow. In the end they will be part of your life and you will probably think of them almost like family members whose life you have to follow.
Stay tuned for great episodes like Stray which was the one that probably made me fell in love with Clark's portrayal in the series.
Hopefully season 2 will get you hooked and remember that you have more to come. You will have the advantage of not having to wait as long as we did for each season.

best season- 6 so far. best episodes ever arrow, covenant and run in my opinion. these will make a fan an obsessive

I watched the very first episode and was like this might be good, but the second epi was it. Then I kept reading stuff on here and Wal-Mart had SV: S1 and S2 for $20. So I gave the show another chance. I liked it but still had my problems with the show. Then I also got S3 and S4 for $15 at WM and was turned to the Smallville dark side. I like this Superman because unless they have changed thing between S5 and the first of S6, I think this Superman will not be the pretty boy that you see in most other forms. while I still have problems with the show, like I can't ubder stand how Clarks secret is still a secret. But I've always had a problem with the fact that Lois can't figure out that Clark and Sups is the same person. I gotta say I don't really like Lana in S4. But it's a good show with a good Else World storie line.

$15 at Walmart? I'm going to have to look into that, everywhere else I've seen has lowest price listed at $35.

Amazon at the moment also have it at $14.99.

Does that include season 4. I'm still relunctant to pay for that season, but at that price, I'd have to get it.

I was in Germany for most of 2001 and hadn't heard anything about the show. When I got to the U.S. I was flippin' through the channels and saw Tom Welling. I remember telling my wife that I thought he looked like Christopher Reeve (*5yrs later he doesn't favor him at all to me*) Anyway I thought the show was just another Dawson's Creek or something and was about to turn when all of sudden he supersped off-screen. I literally jumped off the couch in amazement.:wow: Besides deployment I haven't missed a single episode since.:woot:

I understand Avid, I hated the Lexana static story also.

Plus it was another Clark is relegated to second position again, when the Clark/Batista story should have been front and center.

Welcome to the world of Smallville.

Are you welcoming me to the world of Smallville. I've been around for quite a while now, in case you hadnt noticed. Maybe I should post more often. :cwink:

anyone know when they are having another new episode where I live last week was a repeat of the first episode of this season, and according to the info this weeks will be the one where clark gets a cold, I figured with the holiday they would not put a new one on but two weeks in a row has me slightly confused.

Welcome into the fold! And I definitely agree; Season One is a lot of "filler" episodes, and you could really get by just watching the Pilot and "Tempest" (the season finale), although there are some pretty good episodes in S1 ("Stray" comes to mind for me).

It's Season 2 when you really get hooked. I honestly believe the Season 2, Disc 1 is probably the best DVD for Smallville - you've got the culimination of the events in "Tempest", "Heat" which is hilarious, "Duplicity" which was much-needed screentime for *SOMEONE*, and "Red" which is an awesome episode as well.

But that's just my opinion. Again, welcome to the series!

And SHF4839, there will be a new episode of Smallville this Thursday (12/7), but then it goes on hiatus until the end of January.

wow thats cheap u will enjoy smallville and also and qwestions ask any SV geek here
