How no one is discussing this here, I don't know, but here it is!

It's a previously unknown, and I'm honestly hoping Marvel does great things with the character. I hope that, with the ethnicity of the character being addressed so vividly, that we can have the character written as a person, and not as a gimmick. I'd love to see this book soar.

I honestly think it's awesome that the new Spider-Man
Is Black / Hispanic.
It's a unique change and a fresh take. I'll check it out tomorrow.

BUT.....

Peter needs to come back eventually.

And here we go.

I think it's a pretty cool concept and being that I'm black/Mexican myself I'm pretty interested in where the story can go.

Official Press Release

Pop culture history will be made tomorrow as Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 hits shelves and introduces readers to the all-new Ultimate Comics Spider-Man! That’s right, for the first time ever, someone other than Peter Parker will be Spider-Man! But, after the death of Peter Parker, who will rise up to defend the Ultimate Universe? Meet Miles Morales, a seemingly normal teenager from New York who will soon discover that with great power comes great responsibility…and even greater danger! But just what are the secrets behind Miles’ shocking abilities? What’s his connection to the original Spider-Man? And just why does he wear that costume? Courtesy of superstars Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 begins the story that’ll have everyone talking for years to come!

“When the opportunity arose to create a new Spider-Man, we knew it had to be a character that represents the diversity—in background and experience—of the twenty-first century,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “Miles is a character who not only follows in the tradition of relatable characters like Peter Parker, but also shows why he’s a new, unique kind of Spider-Man—and worthy of that name.”

With its inception in 2000, the Ultimate Comics Universe reimagined the world’s most popular super heroes for a new generation and has been critically lauded for its bold, resonant stories. In particular, Ultimate Spider-Man #1 is widely considered one of the most important comics of the century, setting records for trade paperback sales and introducing one of the most popular versions of Spider-Man ever. With the death of Peter Parker in June 2011, all eyes were once again on the Ultimate Comics Universe, as mainstream media and fans alike speculated just who Marvel would put under the mask of this beloved hero. Now, the chart-topping team of Bendis and Pichelli begin the next major chapter of the Ultimate Comics Universe with September’s historic Ultimate Comics spider-Man #1, giving readers a chance to learn the origin of the most important new character of the century.

“The chance for the world to join a new Spider-Man as he discovers what that means in this modern world is one of the most challenging and crazy fun opportunities I’ve had as a writer,” explained Bendis. “The Ultimate Comics Universe according to Miles is completely unique. I can't wait to write every issue and I can't wait for people to start reading them.”

Pichelli added, “I promise, you will fall in love with Miles-- I already did. 'Nuff Said.”

The world’s greatest super hero icon is about to undergo the most groundbreaking reinvention in comic book history—where will you be when the mask is lifted? Pick up Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 tomorrow at your local comic shop or digitally on the Marvel Comics App for iOS devices.

Let me guess... the villains are white?:awesome: Sorry, but when you start using race as a means to change identities, you've entered a slippery slope where every story is suspect and no one wins. A bad move. It will fail. :whatever:

me too, except the mexican part lol.
It kinda freaked me out how similar we look lol, even my friends and girlfriend say we look alike :wow:

Agreed.

But if they were to make a Miles Morales Spider-Man film, I'd audition:ikyn:lmao:

Man, why does it have to be about races. As a black person who enjoy comic books and Spider-Man I think it great to have a more black superheros. Marvel did a good job with Nick Fury.

I'll give this a chance, but honestly... I'm not really interested in a Spider-Man that isn't Peter Parker (or one of his clones:))

I have no problem with a spider-man of any race. My issue is how well Bendis can write him. He tends to make his african american characters into jokes by upping racial streotypes. he does it with Luke Cage alot, so will have to see how he writes him.

At the risk of sounding redundant...what happened to the old one?

Just to take an opposing viewpoint, by that logic one could and should never do a story about minorities as protagonists in fear of starting "racial controversy." That makes no sense.

This looks to be interesting. I want to know how this new character came across spider powers.

You're the only one here walking a slippery slope, dude.

Killed......or at least for now.

Really? Can they take 616 Spidey with him, because while I haven't read an USM story in nearly ten years (not counting the fun USM game that was still about five years ago), it has to be better than what happened to the character in the main continuity. And they ended MC2 Spider-Girl. Sigh, nothing much left.

I stopped reading after 9 issues of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. The original Ultimate Spider-Man with Bagley and Bendis was excellent. Even Immonen (had to look up how to spell that) was OK. But the story after that started turning into almost a joke.

Aunt May adopts Johnny Storm and Bobby Drake at the drop of a hat. And Peter and Gwen are inexplicably dating even though they treated one another like brother and sister up until that point (MJ brings this up in one of the stories!) It was like bad fanfiction. Not to mention the art style made Peter look like a 10 year old while in costume.

I actually find the idea pretty interesting and indeed unique. But, it all depends on the story and how you execute it.
Bendis is a good writer, but he's prone to going the wrong way from time to time. I enjoyed the first 50 issues of his USM, but then the story was getting nowhere and, being pretty aware of that, he simply decided to end the 9-year run witn the death of his protagonist, which seemed weak for a writer to do.
Nevertheless, I have a good feeling about the new character and I'll give it a chance for just the sake of curiousity. It's really good that Marvel decided, through the use of one of its most prominent superhero, to merge two minor market segments into one. Also, I hope Bendis will create new mythology for the character and stress his identity. I remember reading a lot about spiders' symbolism in Africa and maybe Latin America (rituals of Aztecs and Maya). This was also well-noted in one of the storylines in TAS before OMD/BND.
I just hope Miles is not related to Ben Reily or any other character except Peter, but indirectly. I'd like to have his own arc.

The new Spider-Man has potential. I like his costume and that the character is black/hispanic (there aren't enough superheroes that belong to another race besides caucasian). And it'll be interesting to find out how he received superpowers.

If its not peter I aint partying!

Well I'll say it. Good for Bendis. I won't be checking this out I don't think and it will probably kill the book after an initial boost in sales but he did something a bit unexpected in my eyes and he deserves credit for this.

My thoughts exactly.

It is a risky move, and one I HOPE will lead to good stories. I honestly hope he just focuses on the character as a PERSON, and not "new Spidey", and it could be good.

I still don't know if I'll check it out, as I have no more money in my comics budget, but I hope it sticks for awhile, at least.

Make sure the Blackbird has fuel, because I'm hittin' the comic ship today for Fallout #4.
