I can agree that the NAACP is more a political machine at this point, than a group looking out for the best interests of the people it claims to serve....as for the cartoon, yes an enlightened person would look at it and not think it racist, but we are not as enlightened and civil as we'd all like to think we are
Not yet, BlackLatern, Not yet...

but that's when my master plan comes in....

watch this space in the next 3-10 years...

I agree that some people who find this racist are uneducated because they don't know how politics work or don't keep up with news stories. But, I think a lot knew the intent but just want to cause a stir.

You know Obama personally? It's not slanderous to say Obama is smarter than Bush but to then go on and slander his background? I don't want to take anything away from Obama and his succesful win of the white house but it just further proves that America votes on image and not on policies. People complain that Bush ran this country into the ground but I am buckled in and ready to go with the ride we will get from the decisions made by a single party controlling all the branches. Obama is a good guy, but he will be ran over by Pelosi and her cronies...scratch that, he has already been ran over by her.

I'm uneducated because I have a personal opinion, especially when I consider all aspects and possible implications of the comic? Wow. Thanks.

Please, when someone writes a joke, they understand how it's going to be taken, best believe coming from a writer, the good and the bad. This Cartoonist knew full well that it was more reasonable than not that people would draw parallell's.

It's so easy to adopt bigoted views, you had the same beef and the same lame jokes and the same points of refrence for the past 200 years, and there as thin now as they ever were, that's why the most vocal of the bunch seem dim.

When I go to the grocery store, I don't see saltine crackers and think...wow that's racist.

I think it can be seen as racist so i voted that it was. DO i agree, not really, it was still kinda funny though.

I think people are looking for a controversy that simply isn't there. Sorry. Voted "no."

Try not and speak more than 2 sentences. You might put your foot in your mouth. :hehe:

Bush was portrayed as a chimp...nobody called foul then. But when the comic isn't even potraying the current president, just because he is black then people call foul?
IF Obama were being portrayed as a chimp, then yes, I'd call foul. I think it's in poor taste to portray a black man as a chimp, especially when the comparison is historically racist. You're really comparing apples and oranges, IMO.

It is poor taste to do it but he didn't so none of this matters.

Coming in here late, don't know if its been mentioned already -- but if you look at this guy's resume of other political cartoons, one can obviously conclude that he has issues with race, homosexuality, so on and so fourth.

I don't see these strips showing that he has any issues with race, homosexuality, or so forth. I see he has a habit of pointing out the irony and hypocrisy of a lot of today's news.

- The transgender pregnancy strip isn't calling him a freak. It's showing the doctors' being clueless as to how to perform a birth from a pregnant male because it's never been done before.

- The one with the giant bed with the wife clear on the other side of the bed from her husband and his gay partner isn't making fun of gays. It's making fun of those gays who think that anyone who has a problem with who they're with must disapprove of their actions because they're homophobes, even when there's a completely different reason to be upset. In this case it's the wife being upset her husband is with another person at all.

- I can't complain about the terrorists being happy about the results of the mid-terms. It really was the best they could've hoped for.

- The New Jersey Marriage License one with the sheep isn't calling gays sheep lovers. It's saying, "well if people should be allowed to marry anyone they want because of love, regardless of what the established definition of 'marriage' is, then what about those people who "love" their animals? Where do you draw the line?". I personally wouldn't go that far in the comparison, but he does have a valid point.

- I'm not familiar with the McGreevey-Foley situation so I cannot comment on that strip.

- The Divorce Court strip is actually arguing in favor for gay marriage. It's pointing out that those who are so against it because it's "damaging the institution of marriage" should take a second and look at how badly the heterosexuals who CAN get married are damaging it up themselves because of how many are going through marriage after marriage without any seeming sort of intended long-term commitment.

- The Why Women Stray strip is not calling women as a whole "****es". It's showing the hypocrisy of those who read the news about the large number of people out there who do something and can't believe the figures because it's "hard to believe that many people would do it" when they themselves are part of that figure.

- The Gay Pride Parade comic is not calling gays freaks. It's pointing out the hypocrisy of those who organize huge events that are all about promoting acceptance not accepting certain people into their events just because they're different.

- Rosie O'Donnell is a fat, butch lesbian.

- I don't know who Heather Mills is.

- And Al Sharpton DOES like to get his butt kissed.

What that page does show me, though, is that he has a habit of labeling a person whenever he's referring to a specific individual. Notice in the monkey strip that Congress is not labeled "Obama". ;)

While I give you credit for trying, it is very clear you went into this with the intentions of disproving whatever you were about to see, before even reading it.

Well, thats not the case. If gay people did filter out indivduals who were different, you would be accurate. But that is not the case, hell I know many straight people who have rallied in support of gays. This cartoon portrayed homosexuals as cross dressig mutants.

well, first, wether strait, homosexual, bi-sexual, whatever, you are a human being, who should be entitled to the same rights as any other human being. An animal has no human rights whatsover, no social security number or citizenship. It is illegal to have sexual intercourse with an animal.
you also wrote,
"I can't complain about the terrorists being happy about the results of the mid-terms. It really was the best they could've hoped for"
When I hear that, I can't help but think about the close-minded bigots down here in the south who said "Well, Al Queda got there President, Barack Hussein Obama. The end is near"
My apologies if you feel like I am calling you a racist or a homophobe, I am not by any means. I am calling the illustrator a racist homophobe. You are just naive.

No, he doesn't have a valid point. An animal cannot consent to marriage, whereas a human being can so the, "If we let two people of the same gender marry, what's next? We let people marry their pets?" argument is flawed and irrelevant.

Yes and that can be adjusted with one sentence...."Marriage is defined by the union of two consenting adults of consenting age"...none of this emancipated minor ********

When we're on a topic of people accusing a comic strip writer of racism, homophobia, etc, and then someone posts a link to an article on a site that's called "Loathsome: Ten Cartoons from Sean Delonas", of course I'm going to go into that with pessimistic eyes, just as you would go into it looking for proof that he is a rasist homophobic biggot.

I just happen to be the type of person who will give a person the benefit of the doubt before accusing them of anything.
