What's with people and Man-Bat? Ill never get it.

Especially now of all times to use him. We just had the Lizard, it's basically the same premise for a villain. My opinions aside for how goofy i think the character is, just the fact that it would be repetitive to Amazing Spider-Man (just the dark version), should be enough to turn people off.

The reboot needs fresh without getting silly. There's plenty of villains that deserve it over Man-Bat or Mad Hatter or Killer Croc.

I don't get the Man-Bat obsession either. The only thing I'd ever think to use him for would be an appearance in a trippy vision caused by the Scarecrow spraying Batman with a heavy dose of fear toxin.

I would just bring the Riddler back to the basics.

A criminal who goes from city to city committing various crimes, playing games with the police.

Then fed up with the less than adequate challenges the average mind presents him with, travels to Gotham to take on Batman, becoming the Riddler, becoming more and more dangerously obsessive.

If we're talking about the ones who haven't been seen on the big screen before I'd say Harely Quinn and Hush should be next in line, at least based on notoriety. Still, they are both pretty heavily tied to other franchise characters, so introducing them requires quiet a lot of groundwork.

Man-Bat doesnt have to be silly. Watch the first episode of the animated series. I think Man-Bat could be awesome as a side villain whose origin we never really know...that could be cool

Oh, im well aware of Animated Series-Man Bat. My opinion is still the same. It was silly then and would be silly now. Even if they could do something creepy it should only be a cameo where Strange or Scarecrow unleashes him on Batman in a dark space.

Animated Series or not..it was Dr. Curt Conners all over again. At least ill agree with you that we should never see him as a human, or his origins.

And people who write in Killer Croc are racist LOL. An African-American (most of the time) who has no brains...like a dumbed down Lizard. Chained up. Good lord it sounds pretty bad as im writing it.

Hes not an African American most of the time. I think youre thinking of Lee Bermejo's depiction of Killer Croc in his Joker book. And that depiction wasnt even racist either if you read the book. Most Batman villains are white and many are stupid, so I dont think its racist to have a black villain.

I'd like to see a great Poison Ivy to rival the great Catwomen.

Poison Ivy could be cool in a story inspired by TLH or Hush. I liked her role in both of those

Did you ever read Haunted Knight? It feels like an extension of her portrayal in The Long Halloween. Definitely check it out if you haven't. It's another Jeph Loeb book (like Hush and TLH), and Tim Sale from TLH returns as the artist.

Definitely down for a Loeb influenced Ivy - or several other villains for that matter (Mad Hatter, Two-Face return, etc).

For the first movie, I think maybe a gang war going on in Gotham between Black Mask and Penguin. Maybe use Croc as an enforcer. I think it would help give the same realistic sense as the Nolan films, yet at the same time having a more "out-of-the-ordinary feel". This would also be a good opportunity to use Gordons Character.

Second film, haven't put much thought into it, but maybe Hugo Strange and Riddler.

Third film, Harley breaks Joker out of Arkham. I want these two characters slowly built up in the background of the previous films. Conversations between Dr. Qunnzel and Hugo in the second film could help this.

    Some ideas...

Film 1: Businessmen Roman Sionis and Roland Dagget own competing companies, and are working with the mob to sabotage each others' businesses. Sionis, who disguises himself as the Black Mask, has better mob connections (including an illegal weapons dealer at Oswald Copplepot's Iceberg Lounge) but Dagget has a secret weapon: Matt Hagan, who Dagget is feeding a special Clayface substance to allow him to change his facial appearance at will. Sionis discovers this, destroys the plant making the substance, and causes Hagan to overdose on it, saturating him in it, turning him into Clayface. But in the chaos there is an accident - some of the substance strikes Sionis in the face, permanently sealing his mask to his flesh and making his mask move with his expressions. Both criminals slowly fall into insanity due to this event, igniting a volatile gang war with Gotham caught in the middle.

Film 2: Gotham is under attack. Multiple fires have been started by the pyromaniac terrorist Firefly. After several fires nearly spiral out of control, a private business takes Dr. Victor Fries off of his cyrogenic research to develop a new fire control suit with a special Freeze Gun. Victor develops it and it exceeds their expectations - they want him to develop more for military use. When he refuses, they hire the mob to trash his lab and destroy his work. A lab explosion turns him into the vengeful Mr. Freeze. Now Freeze teams up with Firefly to wreak havok on all of Gotham.

Film 3: Jervis Tetch, aka the Mad Hatter, develops a special mind control drug known as Wonderland and uses it in conjunction with subliminal messages to begin to manipulate the wealthy and powerful in Gotham to his will. Obsessed with a young girl named Alice, he kidnaps her and keeps her in a constant drugged state so that she will love him. Tetch teams up with Edward Nigma, the Riddler, who masterminds a plan through which they can slowly take control of Gotham. But Alice is from Selina Kyle's neighborhood, and is a young girl who Selina has looked after for years - so Selina becomes Catwoman and searches for the Hatter. When the Wonderland serum is spread throughout Gotham, turning it into a madhouse, Batman must decipher the Riddler's continuous riddles and survive his traps in order to secure an antidote and save the city.

    Love your ideas, Phantasm!

All it needs is a relation to (or a reflection of) Batman as a character and an overall point to make, philosophically and emotionally. Just overlay that onto your ideas, which should be fun with the villains you chose, and I'd watch all of those happily.

Here's an example of relating Batman into the fold, keeping everyone relevant to each other thematically: You could use the concept of Sionis going around in a frightening mask to do things beyond his reach as a normal man, or Clayface disguising himself or shapeshifting, to comment on Batman's use of disguise and fear - including his false Bruce Wayne persona.

Really play up the psyche of that, the obsession. Show how it can be used for good or for bad, and how the city perceives Batman as perhaps scary or potentially evil because of his appearance and methods. This keeps him tragically untrusted despite the good he's trying to do. Kids see a menacing black skull and run the same way they would run from a menacing black bat face.

Condensed: We see a parallel of Bruce Wayne in Clayface, and a parallel of Batman in Black Mask.

This can go deeper of course, add layers. Such as Sionis being a rich kid that inherited and built a lot of wealth, but directed that wealth toward the opposite end of the spectrum than Bruce did.

I always thought Killer Croc made a good henchman. I think 'A Bullet for Bullock' is probably the best way to give him a little backstory.

Yeah, I thought maybe the first film could have a theme of Masks / Persona / Identity, the second would have a theme of Vengeance and its costs, and the third might have a theme of Freedom / Free Will vs. Order / Peace.

I like your ideas, RustyCage, on how Black Mask and Clayface both mirror and parallel Bruce.

Only way I'd like to see Man-Bat would be a Scarecrow hallucination or Hugo Strange psychologically tormenting Batman.

Hmm... the mention of Strange and Scarecrow gives me another idea...

Film 4: The Scarecrow attempts to cause widespread fear throughout Gotham, but is foiled repeatedly by Batman. Crane wants Batman to know fear. He allies with Hugo Strange, who has discovered Batman's true identity as Bruce Wayne. Discovering the truth to Batman's tragic past, Crane and Strange send genetically altered "Monster Men" to capture Batman and lock him in an abandoned wing of Arkham. Locked in as well are three families, each with two parents and a small child, caught in a death trap - the idea is that each child will have to witness his parent's murder, and Batman will not arrive in time to stop it. Batman must think through the fear toxin, escape Strange's monster men, and save each family in time (which, of course, he will. He's Batman :cwink:). In the end, Scarecrow is made insane by his own fear toxin, forgetting Batman's identity because he is so fearfully fixed on the Batman persona. Strange will be destroyed by his own monster men.

The theme of course would be something like Courage in the face of Tragedy.

That's four films there with no Joker yet!

I could kinda see her as Catwoman. Her big eyes are a bit reminiscent of Selina. I could imagine her looking like the comics character. But she'd have to really take on the character and not do those awkward stares she is so known for.

    Streets of Gotham:
Starts after one year of Batman's career. Batman's made an impact in the public psyche, particularly in Gotham's underworld. The Maroni Crime Family is threatened by a new, more theatrical criminal: Black Mask. Black Mask is working for Hugo Strange, a pharmaceutical specialist with an obsession with the human mind and it's abnormalities, currently focusing his obsession on Batman. Using Black Mask and Deadshot as distractions, Hugo Strange attempts to overwhelm Batman and wear him out while discovering who is behind the mask and why. Black Mask and Deadshot make quick work of the Maroni Crime Family and take over their assets, including corrupt Police Commissioner Gillian Loeb. Meanwhile, with the information of Batman's identity in his hands, Strange makes it his mission to hurt everyone closest to him: Alfred, Gordon and Lucius.

    Gotham Knights:
Taking place three years after Streets of Gotham, Batman is trusted by the GCPD, led by now Commissioner James Gordon. With the help of Harvey Dent, the trio has crippled the already dying Gotham mob and are working to control the rising 'freak' population. After connecting a new drug on the streets to the small criminal group known as "The Irish", they follow the trail back to two sources: Carmine Falcone and Arkham Asylum. Harvey follows the Falcone lead while Batman and Gordon enter the Asylum to find the dealer and manufacturer of the drug. Their journey through the Asylum puts them at odds with the warden of the Asylum, Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow. The three will be viciously tried by the Asylum and none of them will be the same.

(Two Face is also in it, I just felt the little synopsis worked better without saying that)

    Gotham: City of Scars:
After a ten year retirement from a heart attack, Batman is ready to return after the death of his friend, Thomas Elliot, at the hands of Deadshot. The city has changed in ten years. A new vigilante operates on the streets now but without Batman's no killing rule, The Huntress. A man that has operated behind the scenes for years, pushing buttons and holding the strings: The Riddler. With the revolutionary Hush uncovering corruption in the city, running all the way up to Mayor Oswald Cobblepot, Batman needs to know: who are his allies and who are his enemies in this new world?

    Gotham: No Man's Land:
After being beaten by his friend-turned-enemy, Hush, Bruce Wayne is cast out of the city. The revolution in Gotham takes back their city from the corrupt officials and cut themselves off from the United States. With the Riddler watching, Hush takes away the one thing Bruce loves most: his city. Bruce travels to the Himalayas to train under Cassandra Cain and re-enter the city that is now run by small factions taking pockets of the city for themselves.
