What will Activision and Beenox do for a Next-Gen Spider-Man Game.

expand on everything that made TASM good, especially in the combat department

They'll definitely expand on Asm. The city will be larger and more robust. I think they'll do better swinging mechanics and probably refine and add new moves to the great combat

i guess my ideal Spidey game would have everything as detailed as GTA

I'd have a bit of a mash of the previous games. Have the web slinging from SM2, the fun crazy stuff from the PS1 SM game including what if? mode, original story, add something else to the map not just Manhattan (USM had Queens added), multiple costumes and fix up the combat a bit by allowing stealth and fighting but allow us to avoid enemies altogether if we can but be able to crack heads if we get detected. That was one of the issues I had with the ASM game. I could sneak past most enemies but if they caght scent then they'd just be an overwhelming mob. I'd have to run away, come back, get one, run away, ect. It was very annoying.

This is what I think will happen:

Seeing as Beenox hasn't worked on this next game as long as we thought (they had some other project going on since ASM), I wouldn't expect the next game to be very different from ASM. Which is both good and bad.

The next game will most definitely be ASM2.

I think they've heard alot of complaints about the swinging system in ASM. I think they'll either keep it and just speed it up a bit, or they'll make something more like the one in SM2. Hopefully the latter. Especially now with the Web Rush mechanic they can avoid alot of the problems that SM2 had despite being the best web swinging system yet. This will probably be the biggest change since ASM.

More stealth attacks. More combat attacks as well. I think the animation between attacks will be as bad though. Beenox has just never been good at that.

Real time weather- and time effects should be included and I think they'll have that this time.

A more accurate Manhattan.

More cars and pedestrians. Something I think they did quite well in ASM but for next gen there will be even more and there will be a bigger variation of people.

Underground stations that you can go to any time, similar to SM3.

More mini missions that pop up randomly like in SM2 instead of being static like in ASM. Will also continue to pop up after story is completed.

Better boss battles compared to ASM.

More objects that you can interact with in different ways and use in combat.

Obviously better graphics. I think that the character models in particular will look better, seeing as how bad those were in ASM. I doubt it will be even close to as good looking as the big games but I don't think it will look bad.

Given the new particle system in the next gen consoles, I think Sandman, Hydro-Man or Swarm will make an appearance. Same goes for Mysterio.

I think you'll be able to use your webs in a much better way this time. Unfortunately however, I think they'll keep overusing the web bullets like they always do.

Almost every Spidey game has had something new that they've talked ALOT about when advertising the game. Sometimes they've been very gimmicky and added nothing to the game (first person brawls in SD, "affect time" in EoT), sometimes they've actually been great (free roam and web swing in SM2, airial combat in WoS and Web Rush in ASM). So I bet there will be something "new and big" this time as well. Whether it will actually add something to the game or not remains to be seen. I think it will be about using your environment in combat, and have it be more responsive. Either that, or the improved use of webs will be the big thing I think.

Sand-Man and Mysterio appeared Last-Gen, due to Shattered Dimensions. I am expecting a return of Venom, with a ton of symbiote tendrils and a symbiote hammer as a boss battle.

Honestly, I would much rather them leave Venom and any if all symbiotes out of the next game. IMO, i feel like the symbiotes are just cannon fodder and gives the developers a break from varying the enemy types (one of my main gripes with Web of Shadows). With the current Spidey film franchise, it may be unlikely that we'll be seing Venom due to the fact that they are expanding on the relationship between Peter and Gwen Stacy, and it also looks like the Osborn's will be playing a more prominent role. If anything, the games should introduce more villains that we won't be seeing in film such as Kraven the Hunter, Hobgoblin, Hydro Man, etc.

After playing TASM, I can honestly see more areas that could be fixed as opposed to what I originally spotted when the game released, mainly the Web Swinging and the combat. I wasn't really bothered about where his webs attached to, but now I can see the importance of it because it adds a whole new dynamic to the physics, the buildings and surfaces that his webs attach to would impact the type of swing that he performs. The combat could use more moves and takedowns, it was cool in TASM, but at the same time, it felt repetitive because of the limited selection of moves and takedowns that were available, if they fix those areas and improve on the NPC character models and give them the amount of detail that they put into Spidey, we'll have ourselves a damn good game

Whatever kind of game they do, whatever sort of changes or improvements they make, I'd really like to see some different villains in the next game. I am sick to death of fighting Rhino, Electro, and Black Cat. (But we'll probably get all three of those if the next game is ASM2).

Some new villains I'd like to see:

The Spot
Hydro-Man
Swarm
Molten Man
Big Wheel
Chameleon
Will o' The Wisp
Tarantula
Morbius

Then like everyone else I'd like a very detailed GTA style free roam, better boss fights, and improved combat and swinging. And some indoor linear levels that aren't bland sewer or Oscorp lab environments.

Maybe they can bring in The Spot?

Also spider-ham?

I'm hoping they make a great avengers game before they do spidey again. There have been so many great Spider-Man games

I agree 100% with the Spot ideas. He could make for an awesome boss battle

I'm kinda sick of the Spot being an idiot. With a tiny bit of imagination he could make millions in just a few days. They need to bring him back as a transporter or something. Need your shipment of drugs brought in but always getting caught by the feds? Have the Spot portal it in the drop off zone in seconds well within the border. Hell he could make money off of celebrities by offering transportation anywhere in the world away from the press where it would take them days to get to them.

I always liked the idea of the guy but they really need to just give him an IQ bump of a few points.

You haven't been reading comics lately, have you? The Spot was revamped as sort of a silent killer for the mob back during the BND/The Gauntlet arc in ASM #589. Fred Van Lente wrote the story, I think. He then showed up in the first issue of Mark Waid's Daredevil, and was recently used by another villain, The Coyote, to transport drugs, guns, and slaves until DD stopped him. If you're a fan of The Spot, you should check it out.

I don't think I've read anything Spider-man related since OMD/BND started unless it was a tie in to something else like Siege.

I hope future next-gen games capture the full spirit of New York City. One of the things that always bugged me about most Spider-Man was how there would only be like 10 people in Times Square. I hope Manhattan feels real and has its own identity, much like the city settings in GTA and in the Batman Arkham games.

Aww, yeah I wasn't reading Spidey during BND but later picked up a trade from my library with the Spot story I mentioned. It's a good story but I certainly understand why some people don't wanna read Spidey right now. You should at least check out Waid's Daredevil though.

I hope they use The Spot, and do it like Rocksteady with Deadshot and Riddler in Arkham City, a side mission villain to find, not part of the main story
And man, they need to be creative with him

If they can make a game more like Ultimate Spider-Man, adding the best elements from TASM game to it, I'll be happy

And I hope for no freaking symbiotes, the overuse of those made my bubble burst

I hope city is bigger and web-Swinging will be better. It was cool in TASM game but you could do it just by holding RT(X360).

For the next game I hope they have infinite and more varied crime in progress activities, for replay value.

I just want the web-swinging mechanics from Spider-Man 2 to return. Best experience in a Spider-Man game by far in my opinion.

That's why I used Ultimate Spider-Man game as a template for what I want
Hope -as the ones before me said- they do improve the combat as well after their first movie game

All i know is i loved the s**t outta ASM(the game and the film) so im all for ASM2(again, the game and the film). All i really need is MORE. Make the city larger, more detailed. Give me more random missions and crimes. Expand on the combat, but dont alter it too heavily. I hope Beenox is making ASM2. If they are, they already have my coin.

That's exactly what I want. I'm not asking much. Just that again. I want to have fun and be challenged when I'm web-swinging. ASM's swinging system bored me.

Honestly, when I look at my shelf, I can't stop feeling like ASM is the worst among the games I have. I played it twice last year to get all the trophies and I have no wish to come back to it.

What if they make another linear game?
