The David Hasselhoff version of Nick Fury is out on dvd, September 30th. But it's only available at Best Buy and price is about $15.

Anyone planning on getting this?? I know the movie is low budget, but I'll still pick it up as a guilty pleasure, kinda like Dolphs' Punisher dvd.

On the cover it says " From the writer of Batman Begins"...I guess they think that will help sell more copies.

Can't believe Goyer actually did this.

This is probably the closest I'll get to seeing the 'Steranko-esque' Fury on screen for a good few years. I won't be buying it though.

The movie is terrible; I can actually sit through Dolph's Punisher and find it enjoyable - I can't with this.

As for Goyer writing it; the man proved he's not totally infallible when he gave us Blade:Trinity - truth be told, I'm not sure which movie is worse.

Like I said, guilty pleasure. The Steranko style Fury is and will always be my favorite. I don't know why, I just enjoy him more than the Ulitmates version.

Yeah the movie is bad, but I'll watch it for that reason only. Still, I would prefer Dolphs Punisher over it anyday.

Sometimes a good director can have a good script and make a horrible movie from it.

I'm willing to bet, that Goyers script was really dark and edgy, but the studio probably had him lighten it up for tv.

This was a bad movie. But, I might pick it up. I'm a completist like this. I have many comic movies that suck, just cause I feel like I have to.

That's one of the main reasons I bought it. Can't have a Marvel section of my dvds if I'm missing a few...including Nick Fury and Elektra.:o

I was going to get it when I picked up Iron Man the other day, but it's only in full screen and it's not worth $15.00. I'll maybe wait until BB has it for $3.99

Same here...unfortunately for us all.

There was no widescreen version, it was made for TV back before most shows on TV started filming that way.

I picked it up on Tuesday. I personally liked it. It wasn't the greatest movie made, but it wasn't near as bad as most people try to make it out to be.

The leads overacting and cheesifying every single scene hurt what was a poor script to start. It wouldn't have been half as bad had Hasselhoff and the actress that played Andrea Von Strucker not ham-fisted every line. Andrea Von Stucker = Dr. Evil????

Ditto...if they would only release Generation X......is the Dolph Punisher any good? I can't find it anywhere...rental or purchase...

Apparently the France Marvel Collection set of Fox Marvel Films has a Generation X Bonus disc...does anyone know if thats the actual film? Its on the French Amazon site...

xploited cinemas offering an uncut version of the dolph punisher for those fellow Marvel completists...

i know a site selling copies of the 90 direct to video Cap...the unreleased F4...and Gen X....

Link?? I downloaded the F4 movie awhile back, it was pretty horrible, but for the budget and cast, doable compared to the one that came out in 05.

The Dolph Punisher is still more enjoyable than NF:AOS, but that's because it's violent and not made for tv. You should get it, it's only 5 bucks.:woot:

I still find the The Dolph Punisher enjoyable. Its not a perfect film by a long shot but for an early marvel flick its pretty good compared to the rest of the stuff they put out pre-Blade.

Dolph's Punisher is definately enjoyable - who on earth doesnt enjoy seeing Frank beat the crap out of ninjas?;

I still maintain that there are aspects of it that I thought they did better than the Jane Punisher.

Me too. There was stuff that I think they got that Jane Punisher didn't but saying that on The Punisher boards is like saying you just killed their grandmother :whatever:

Apperantly you can't say a bad word against Jane and his punisher flick :oldrazz:

Lol- I know what you mean - There where aspects of the Jane flick that I liked; some that I didnt. Personally, I found Goldblatt's version of the Punisher to be more satisfying than Heinsleigh's as a whole.

You'd think that considering the production budget for that movie dwarfed the Dolph version; they would have at least come close to delivering a more definitive movie Punisher.

But they didnt imo.

Dolph's Punisher was definately more badass than Jane's; If only they'd have gave him a skull emblem; he would have been perfect.

How dare you say Dolph's Punisher is better than Tom Jane's!!!! :oldrazz:

I think some of the action from the 89 Punisher was awesome. when Dolph's Punisher came through that casino skylight with an M60, with a grenade launcher attached. That was good. Even the build up of it with him on the roof was well done. I still prefer Jane's Punisher over Lundgren's though.

Yeah, the casino was cool. Personally, my favourite action scene has gotta be the Dock sequence - Dolph sliding down a cable with guns blazing;

either that or the fight at the fun-house.

If only the '89 Punisher had the superior production values of Jane's Punisher....................

I liked elements of both Punishers. What I really liked about The Punisher 89 though was the alternative ending where Tommy Franco has the gun to Franks head and his shouting at him to blow his brains out. When he can't do it Castle tells him to grow up to be a good man or else he will be waiting for him which was pretty hardcore.

By the way do you know Tarintino ripped off some stuff from Punisher 89 too when he he made Kill Bill.

Punisher 89 had some good one liners too even if they where a little cheesey

"What do you call 125 murders in 5 years?"
"Work in progress"

"Who sent you?"
"Batman."

examples?
I can't sit through 10 minutes of Kill Bill without wanting to cut my head off.

Ha - the 'Batman' ones a bit cheesy but the 'work in progress' one is class.

I always thought that Dolph is criminally underated in this one (much like in most of his movies). The scene between him and LGJnr in Franks cell was well acted and poignant.

I gotta say though that the alternate ending that you described is the only one I can remember.

On all the versions of the '89 Punisher than I can recall (an old one on Bravo, my Region 1 DVD, and the version that was on FX the other month) that was the ending that was present. Followed by LGJnr shouting for Frank off the top of the skyscraper and a voice over from Frank saying he's still waiting to hear from God.

What other ending was there?

BizarroAids - sorry to highjack your thread.

Lady Tanaka and the Yakuzas, and the Showdown with the changing Light Effect were almost exactly duplicated in Kill Bill.

The part where the bride kills copperhead and says to her daughter about revenge is also kind of similar to the punisher talking to francos kid after he killed his dad.

Tarantino used to work in blockbusters and has admited his influenced or copied depending who you ask scenes from movies his seen

They trimmed some bits off depending on what version you have seen
