So now that CW wised up and canned the dreaded Grayons tv show, I'd love for Nightwing to have his own program... just not on the CW, which is tricky because I always felt if Smallville had better writers and was on a larger market such as NBC they'd reach a higher audience.
*warning: this is a bit long guys, and I know some storylines are different from the comics but I don't care if anyone reads this or not, this is just my interpretation of how Nightwing should be on the small screen. Feel free to add any suggestions or storylines I may have left out.
Here would be my idea for the show:
Story - Dick Grayson arrives in Blüdhaven after a falling out with Batman resulting him in departing Gotham City for good and returns from extra training all over the world a la Bruce Wayne.
Supporting cast:
Barbara Gordon plays his love interest sporadically and tries to get him to return but Dick continually refuses. (Is in her wheelchair state and not the active Batgirl appearance to further the resentment Grayson has for Wayne in partially blaming him for not protecting Barbara from the joker, but at the same time it would be neat if she were to don the batgirl outfit once in the program) I have trouble if she should be a mainstay or just a one or two episode appearance.
Alfred Pennyworth is a regular character (though not used in every episode) that serves as the father figure and general help for Grayson.
Lucius Fox as Bruce Wayne's business partner and the supplier of Batman's gadgets, he also serves as Q to Nightwing. Introduces Nightwing to new gadgets he needs.
Tim Drake the new Robin who shows up in the city to convince Nightwing to come back to Gotham and asks what happened between Wayne and Grayson that damaged their relationship forever. Just a guest appearance and never appears in the Robin costume, though assists Grayson in an episode.
Romantic interest(s):
Bette Kane his former schoolmate from Hudson University, steadily dates Grayson and is in the dark about his secret identity. Kane in this show is not yet the one in the comics who is also harboring a secret of her own and is the vigilante known as Flamebird. Their relationship strains every time Barbara shows in Blüdhaven.
Dick Grayson profile: (taken from nightwing wikiprofile)
Skills - Dick Grayson possesses the peak athletic strength and endurance of a man in his mid/late twenties who regularly engages in intensive physical exercise. His detective and martial arts skills are nearly equal to those of Batman's, making him one of the greatest crime fighters alive. He is a master of a half dozen martial arts disciplines and was rigorously trained by the Dark Knight in everything from escapology to criminology, fencing, stealth, disguise, and numerous other combat/non-combat disciplines.
Costume - Nightwing's current costume is made of a version of the Nomex fire-resistant, triple-weave Kevlar-lined material. It is an excellent protection against damage, and is also insulated against electricity. His costume is branded to his style of fighting. Therefore, his costume contains less body-armor inlays than Batman, for a decreased need of shock-absorption. If this weakness is exploited by fighters who are both fast and strong, Nightwing has supplemetal body-armor inlays which can be applied to his gauntlets, shoulders, mask and boots. Instead of a black cape to keep him hidden, the suit is light sensitive, darkening when there is more light in the area. The mask, in the form of his symbol, is fixed in place with spirit gum, and includes a built-in radio transmitter/receiver and Starlite night-vision lenses. The third, and current costume, with its stylized blue "wing" across his shoulders and extending to his hands, coloring his two middle fingers, over a black bodysuit.
Equipment - His gauntlets and boots each contain eight compartments in which he can store items. They have a self-destruct feature built into them, similar to the ones in Batman's utility belt, and, as another security measure, the suit contains a one-use-only taser charge, which automatically emits a high-voltage electrical shock when someone attempts to tamper with either the boots or gauntlets. Each gauntlet's sections can contain a wide array of equipment, such as sonic or smoke pellets, modified batarangs ("Wing-Dings"), knockout gas capsules, and throwable tracers. The right gauntlet is also equipped with a 100,000-volt stun gun. Like the gauntlets, his boot compartments can carry vital equipment such as flares, a rebreather as protection against any airborne non-contact toxins, a mini-computer equipped with fax, modem, GPS and a minidisk re-writable drive. Other items are lock picks, a first-aid kit, a mini-cellphone, flexi-cuffs, antitoxin assortment, wireless listening devices and a small halogen flashlight. Since coming to New York, Dick has added a black utility belt to his costume, eliminating the need for his boots and gauntlets. Held in spring-loaded pouches in the back of his costume, Nightwing carries a pair of Escrima sticks made from an unbreakable polymer that are wielded as both offensive and defensive weapons. Some depictions have displayed these tools with the mechanism to shoot a grappling hook attached to a swing line (like Daredevil's billy clubs), while, in other instances, he is either seen using a "line gun" like the one Batman currently uses or using the grappling/swing lines either stored in or able to be launched from his gauntlets.
Vehicle - Hesitant to put this in because I find Nightwing on foot to be fascinating and more of a prowler type when chasing criminals, but realize foot speed can never chase cars. So the Nightbird makes its debut in the middle of the season by Lucius Fox. The Nightbird was Nightwing's personalized automobile. The Nightbird has a red "Muscle Car" body shell and a "street camouflage" paint scheme which ensures that the Nightbird looks like any other car. The Nightbird includes many of the same modifications (e.g. bulletproof armor, communications links) as the Batmobile. Additionally, the Nightbird chassis and WayneTech-modified engine feature locking clamps onto which various endoskeleton car bodies can be fitted.
Villians, Allies, and the rest:
Chief Redhorn - police chief of BPD and often takes bribes from mobsters in order to supplement his daughter who is in a coma from an accident.
Detective Soames - detective on the force who butts heads with Grayson frequently over cases. A good natured man nevertheless, think Harvey Bullock.
Mark Desmond/Blockbuster - Chemist who experiments with Bane's serum and injects himself with it but instead grants him half of Bane's strength but nevertheless a strong being and a formidable foe to Nightwing with his combined intelligence and brute strength.
Lonnie Machin/Anarky - a young student of BU who acts as a murderous vigilante. Has good intentions but questioned by Nightwing for his murderous ways.
Floyd Lawton/Deadshot - suicidal assasin who carries out every hit he is ordered to do.
The Ventriloquist/Arnold Wesker - a ventriloquist with multiple personality disorder. Carries around a puppet named Scarface who has the advantage over Wesker's frail mind.
Tony Zucco - Mobster who sabotaged the wires of Graysons' parents in the high wire act that led to their deaths. Mentioned in the episode where Grayson tells Drake his story as well as the main villian in the final two episodes of the season.
DC Animated tie-ins and References: Batman TAS had GREAT episodes portraying Grayson as a struggling hero with many faults that compare to those of Batman. Here are some episodes which highlights the best of Grayson.
Robin's Reckoning - Tells the origin of how Robin came to be as well as dealing with his inner conflicts when face to face with Tony Zucco.

You scratch my back - Details Nightwing's trouble of trusting to work with others after Batman. Works with Catwoman... or is she doing it for other gains?

Old Wounds - A great episode where the broken relationship between Wayne and Grayson is told by Grayson himself to Drake. Also in this episode is the great Nightwing theme by Shirley Walker.

I'll add more when I find my issues of Nightwing from the "files" in my garage.
