You're right, apparently it's December 2nd worldwide. I didn't see that before I posted the above. I need all these Zelda amiibos.

    Dear Nintendo,

You need to chill with the Amiibo thing. Don't turn it into expensive plastic DLC.

No but the blind packs with Amiibo Crossing cards are killing me.

The new leaf update is essentially locked behind a massive pay wall of 50 new blind pack cards with 3 cards in each pack (Europe).

On Xbox live I could just buy a dlc at $20 or less and get it all.

The cards are great but overpriced as heck. People hate on Sony and MS all the time for this, but Ninty gets a free pass?

How does a Pokemon game where you don't catch them ingame, but you pay with amiibo and blind pack cards sound? A Zelda game with cards to unlock gear? I could go on - I'm just stressed Nintendo is going down this path.

Yeah but the Animal Crossing stuff isn't as crucial to the core game as the Pokemon and Zelda examples you listed. The double edged sword with amiibo is what they do isn't required to enjoy the games to their fullest.

The way it looks right now the new leaf update with the "moblie homes" and the new charecters (a core feature of the series) will be the first feature locked behind Amiibo.

It's a problem when amiibo locks away a core concept in the gameplay (like my pokemon example).

    I hope I'm wrong.

I may have sold an Amiibo with my Nintendo account registered as owner? Is this a problem? Can the new user access the Amiibo? And if he can will he have my account info now?

What do you mean exactly that you have an amiibo with a Nintendo account registered to it? I don't think you can actually do this. Most amiibos either unlock something on any system with a tap, or save data from a specific game to the amiibo like a memory card. I'm not aware of any kind of ability to save your actual account information to one.

The Amiibo/toys-to-life bubble is bound to break sooner rather than later. So what do you do? Milk the cow until its dry. Beat the horse until its dead. Make as much money as you can off them until they are no longer viable.

I think Nintendo is in a better position with toys to life than the others at this point. Disney Infinity was never good. They didn't bother trying to make it decent so it failed. I've never played Skylanders so I can't speak to the quality, but with amiibo Nintendo is making figures of iconic and beloved characters that otherwise usually don't have any kind of collectible. I think they need to be careful though. The Animal Crossing amiibo was one where they overshot it and those are routinely found in clearance bins.

I love Amiibo, but gamers are bound to get tired of them eventually. But I especially like that we can get them for third-party games and characters.

They're nowhere near as good as LEGO Dimensions NFC figures though. LEGO have the best toys-to-life strategy.

Lego is definitely doing something great with their NFC stuff. Wouldn't be surprised to see Dimensions end up on Switch.
