Nintendo dropped some bombs earlier today via a Japanese press conference, which lead to several surprising announcements. One being the codename of their next generation console (the NX, which Havok posted a thread about already), but the other big one is that Nintendo is going to be entering the mobile market with partner DeNA, a major Japanese mobile company. A lot of news sites have jumped on this, but here are some translations from the actual conference that may clear up some things.

So, at this point there is some vagueness about how much Nintendo will actually be into the mobile market. Some people are wondering if this won't translate more to licensing deals where their IP is lent out, similar to how Nintendo did this with Puzzle & Dragons, only with actual mobile titles. But then again, Iwata does specifically mention developing games. Odds are we'll find out more details later on, but at the very least, it seems Nintendo does have intentions on going into the mobile market in some way.

In regards to what we'll see on Mobile? I would expect VC to open up.. maybe under the unified accounts it will also be retroactive. Lets say they put up Pokémon Red and Blue on the VC.. but the mobile versions allow you to trade Pokémon via WiFi or blutooth.. but I would then expect to be able to turn on my N3DS and download that version too. Transfer saves and Pokémon back and fourth.

Other than that I'd expect games like Pokémon Shuffle.. maybe Pokémon Ranger.. as well as Jumper/Runner style games ala Doodle Jumpe.. only staring Mario. Maybe Links Treasure Hunt where you sail around looking for sunken treasure and Metroid Pop! where you smash Metroids with your finger. I do not expect Super Mario World 3 or a new top down Zelda or 2D Sidescrolling Metroid on mobile.

If Nintendo really wants to try and open up VC to mobile, then they'll have to seriously rework their pricing. They are already pretty pricey, but there's no way you're going to be selling older games at that price to the mobile crowd.

Warioware would be absolutely perfect for a mobile platform. Stuff like Pokemon Shuffle too. I'm not all that excited for Nintendo's mobile stuff. I've got my 3DS if I want to play Nintendo on the go and I've never, ever played a mobile game that wasn't either terrible, or begging me for money at all times.

Probably not surprisingly, Nintendo's stock jumped up 29% after the press releast. Stock holders have been asking for mobile stuff since last year.

well to be fair, they really havent said anything after that initial press conference. I think that will change once we hear about what franchises will make the jump and actual content starts to materialize. Im interested but I have nothing to offer besides a list of stuff Id want to see

Well, this is all after that initial conference I believe, but you're right in the sense nothing is new. Of course, it's ironic, but they've said a thousand times more about their mobile stuff and ideas than NX by far, but all the talk is about NX. But I get that, the internet stuff that covers this is more interested in core gaming over mobile.

It's that marvel Brawler from last month in the where are the good marvel games thread. Apparently DeNA's the one that developed it.

I was just saying we might see this marvel brawler as one of the first games with the new deal with nintendo

Uh, I'm not sure what exactly what you're trying to say. The deal is about Nintendo games and IP obviously, not third party? DeNA isn't a part of Nintendo, if that's what you're saying.

Merging with? There is no merger, it's a partnership. Nintendo and DeNA are going to remain separate companies. Not sure where you're getting anything about a merger.

yeah it's true partnership ( I chose the wrong words ) but they will have Nintendo make game for them & vice versa from what they said . Anyway I said might.

No, Nintendo will be developing the actual games (though I'm sure some will be a co-development situation with other developers, including DeNA), the DeNA partnership is more about applications and accounts. Nintendo will not be handling DeNA games, they will, remain their own separate entity with their own IPs and licensing.

I know I did say I didn't chose the right words partners still mean your your self separate but equal I know what it mean even though it's used a other mean at times with catchall terms . especilly when they are in the same near business or building. but still meaning your running your own thing/ business. we'll some how I still expect that name on some level. on only to be available in there stores sense where DeNA's involved .

Hm, there is very big difference between a merger and partnership. I'm really not sure what it is you're getting at. Are you trying to say that Nintendo will develop third party on mobile through DeNA? Because that's not the situation at all. I think you've misread somewhere

Oh I didn't say that. I'm saying they might possibly will receive third party via DeNA. Not develop or publish it them selves. & I did use the technical word "possibly" (meaning I know it's also possible it won't happen but it depends ) But Nintendo already has two portable marvel games( big hero 6 that disc wars avengers game) being made for the 3Ds.

They're already on good terms with marvel
