I just finished reading this great book by Rick Perlstein. As a twenty-six-year-old, I found it a horrifyingly effective and well written portrait of America from 1964 to 1972. A lot of my political and moral beliefs formed during the second Bush administration due in no small part to the feeling you had to be on one side or the other, and I though I still think those years under Bush were filled with incredible division and strife, I really had no idea how much larger the rifts were and how much violence the was under Johnson and Nixon.

Has anyone else read this book? Anyone out there who lived through those days themselves, I'd love to hear your opinion about American politics then versus now.
