The Last Jedi (NO SPOILERS) The Last Jedi EARLY TWEET REACTION thread (NO SPOILERS)

It seems that Star Wars fans are firmly in one camp or another in the Disney/Lucasfilm era - the Episode saga camp or the Star Wars Story/Rogue One camp. I'm in the former. I was completely underwhelmed by Rogue One and charmed by Episode VII.

I also find it odd to see Looper at the bottom of his list of Rian Johnson movies. I think it's absolutely brilliant and it's a big reason why I thought he was perfect for Star Wars.

I'm the opposite, I'm more in the Rogue One camp. I just think it's a better movie, and more watchable. I love Rogue One more every time I watch it, but every time I watch TFA I find more errors or things that just don't line up. Aside from that, I feel like I'm more on board with the idea of spinoffs than I am with the idea of continuing the saga (especially now that the brand's creator isn't involved.) You can screw up a spinoff and it doesn't really hurt anything (like a lot of the old EU stuff did), but if you screw up a saga movie it's always going to be there with the rest of them.

If we're ranking movies...

A New Hope
Rogue One
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones

TFA has the tendency to move up or down a spot.

Ya know at some point people really need to stop saying this is tue best star wars film since empire strikes back especially since its been said now the past 2 years in a row.
I see people actually saying this is better then Empire. Which is new.

To CLARIFY: I liked #TheLastJedi very much. I just didn’t love it. It has some great #StarWars moments, but it’s too slow, it’s too long, and it doesn’t take any chances. It’s all very familiar, which should make diehard fans happy. I guess.

I think I'm gonna like this one. Whenever a blockbuster's described as 'too slow', it usually means it's actually trying to do something interesting.

Not surprised that some people are saying that Last Jedi goes to some crazy places. "Looper" has some really oh my god moments with Bruce Willis that made me incredibly shocked the 1st time i saw it. I like how different some people are saying this one is. Also is it just me or does it sound like Mantz saw a different movie than others.

If it's different - it's great news for me.

The interesting thing is that Rian Johnson flat out stated that this Star Wars film is intentionally slowing down, getting to know the characters, and focusing more on the emotions rather than the action and special effects.

Even Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have their slow moments.

Great. That's the big reason why Empire is the best imo.

Well if we are all doing it. :o

Forgive me but this feels like you projecting onto the fanbase. While those two strains of thought are obviously present I don't think painting with such a broad brush really captures the variousfeelings of fans across the spectrum with anything approaching accuracy.

My frame of reference is based on social media comments/interactions. I will admit ignorance on fan forums etc. but personally, I don't see a lot of love for Episode VII on Twitter/Facebook, especially in comparison to Rogue One. "Disney ruined Star Wars!" whining run amok and "The Last Jedi" posts are littered with the same stuff. One person tweeted the other day (an Episode VII fan) "No one dislikes Star Wars more than Star Wars fans" and I've seen ample examples of that.

I'm glad that spectrum is broader away from the mess of social media.

Everyone loves the ranking game.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. Revenge of the Sith
3. A New Hope
4. Rogue One
5. The Force Awakens
6. Attack of the Clones
7. The Phantom Menace
8. Return of the Jedi

"Doesn't take any chances". That doesn't really fit with the rest of what we've been hearing.

I guess if other people are ranking the films I’ll throw in my two cents aswell.
1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. The Force Awakens
3. Star Wars
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Rogue One
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. The Phantom Menace
8. Attack of the Clones

Thought this was the early tweet reaction thread?

3. Star Wars
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Rogue One
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. The Phantom Menaces
8. Attack of the Clones

Ah the heck with it, this is my ranking too!

Mine is gonna be a weird one:

1. Return of the Jedi
2. Phantom Menace
3. New Hope
4. Empire Strikes Back
5. Force Awakens
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. Attack of the Clones

I hope Disney releases de-specialized remasters of the original trilogy eventually. And de-DNR'ed Phantom Menace as well.

I mean no disrespect, but how the frick is Phantom Menace better than Empire? :)

A lot of people use the word "slow" as a pejorative, but it really isn't. There are certainly such things as a movie being boring or poorly paced but slow can actually be a very positive attribute, especially for a big action blockbuster like this. It implies that there are some chances being taken and that the narrative is being given space to breathe and dig into its characters and themes. And that's what I'm expecting this movie to do.

TLJ being "slow" is music to my ears. TFA had a snappy, brisk pace, but it could've gone for a little more breathing room IMO. So I think TLJ being a bit extra long will really help take the emotional investment in these character and this story to a new level.

Btw, are people losing their mind in the spoilers thread? lol. There's no way I'm going in there after all the tweet reactions.

Were there not more reactions? Doesn't seem to be too many in this thread.

RANKING TIME!

2. Jedi
3. Sith (i both apologetically and unapologetically love Sith)
4. Force Awakens
5. A new Hope
6. Rogue One
7. Clones
8. Phantom

I was kind of late to the party.

Most of the tweets had been posted in other places before I made the thread.

I still felt there needed to be a non-spoiler refuge though.

Oh ok. What were the other reactions like?

Oh ok. What were the other reactions like?

Most were very positive.

Some said it was a gamechanger for SW movies.

A few said it was the best SW yet.

Others said it's very clear why LucasFilm chose Rian to direct the next trilogy.

Many said they need a while to process the events in the movie.

There were only a handful of mixed or negatives complaining about length and other nitpicks
