From the Interview w/ Ennis in Yesterday's Ghost Rider: Marvel Spotlight (overall, a great little issue).

SPOTLIGHT: Your series focused just about exclusively on Ghost Rider, and not his alter ego, Johnny Blaze. Why did you decided to go this direction?

GARTH: Johnny Blaze didn't interest me, really. Just another tormented soul/do-gooder. Ghost Rider's not much better, but he has the huge advantage of the . . . motorbike and burning head.

No wonder RTD felt like Ennis on cruise control. He doesn't care about the character at all. At least Way seems to care a lot about GR and his history. Between Devin Grayson's belief that the motorcycle was what it was all about and Garth Ennis's indifference, it almost seems like Marvel was trying to kill to character off by giving him to creators who completely missed the point.

Even if the Nic Cage movie is horrid, I will still like it for the mere fact it got us a new ongoing series written by someone who at least "gets it" somewhat.

Well, that was... disheartening to read.

certainly is...reminds me of that writer for Hammer Lane. she had no f&*(#n clue as to what GR is about....and its seems Ennis is the same way.
Marvel obviously gave Ennis the job just to draw attention to the character....i will admit it did work. Way at least gets it....now if he just start putting more story into each issue.

Speaking of writers who don't know or don't care, what do you guys think about the horrible crap that Velez did to the end of the 90's series? (Not to mention the horrible artists they rotated through there)

I got the feeling he never read a Ghost Rider comic before. He had him flying around laughing maniacly, threatening death to anyone who "disrespected" him. And yes, in those later issues Ghost Rider definitely said, "Don't disrespect me." If I had a lighter I would've set the comic on fire.

I hate when they just hire some clown who doesn't care. It'd be like hiring me to take over writing on a daytime soap. I'd have everyone dyking it out and getting run over by tractors.

But wouldn't that actually make daytime soaps better?

... you might be on to something...

Here's the theory I just came up with... they get different writers that don't give a damn if their stories piss off all the original fans (who still stick around for a while) because it attracts new fans who don't care about the previous events, they just want to see some bloodshed.

Very crafty of them.

Lol.

I dont care what anyone, including Ennis says, Road To Damnation was good, and Trail Of Tears looks fantastic :o

Wow. I'm speechless. I can't believe he felt that way. Makes me not want to support the new mini...

... though everyone knows I will.

I'm not surprised...ghost rider is a superhero after all, and Ennis hates super heroes, that's a common fact and in fact why he's writing the punisher right now instead of X-Men (what Marvel had originally hired him to do way back pre-Welcome Back, Frank)

Well at least with the new mini he has a fresh character that he, and he alone will be responsible for it's appeal.
