Yes, yes, yes. There have been controversial Batman movies (Batman Returns, The Dark Knight Rises) But at this point in Zack's career, any work with a broader concept than zombies or Greek warriors is divisive, because of how he handles such concepts.
If Zack makes another Batman movie, it will probably be controversial. Batman can survive controversy (assuming Affleck doesn't direct the first installment of the Batman reboot).
I don't think Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, MM, etc can afford that risk.
I still think Snyder should do a bit of the action (and a bit of that action should take place in space as to avoid accusations of a bloodbath) and maybe a stylized scene of a character being revealed from the shadows. He should definitely be responsible for putting together a lot of the SCALE shots, and can help Affleck decide on more visually striking camera angles.
But Affleck should be behind a bulk of the scripting and a heavy amount of the directing for JL. It's DC's last real chance to start a shared universe. WB doesn't know how to take risks. That's why they keep going back to Superman and Batman OR producing mostly poor films, because they find the people they feel comfortable with, rather than directors with a strong independent sensibility OR passion for the genre. Or both, but that's kind of a dream come true
