He is almost the Emperor of the film. You hear his name spoken, you see the reactions of those that know maybe the "true" him, and you see how far his hand can reach in term of power and technology.

But you never truly see him.

Marc Webb did a great job of setting up the domino's for the greatest villain of Spidey's life, without doing more than giving us background info.

-Norman is in charge of OsCorp.
-OsCorp is leading the way in technology and gene-splicing.
-Norman is dying.
-Norman possibly knows what happened to Peter's parents.
-Norman is powerful. (How else can he just show up inside a prison without notice. )

I can't wait to see where this movie goes, I wanted instantly to see the continuation once this one was over. This movie struck me more than the Raimi films and the subtle way this one sets up the story going forward was awesome.

Agreed. This movie set up for the sequel well. I really like how the movie didn't seem "rushed" like in the Raimi's trilogy. We see Peter slowly developing throughout the entire movie.

I think this film took a lot of great cues from Batman Begins. Take your time with the origin story, give us a new villain and have fun in teasing what will come.

It changed things....

Even The Man of Steel is apparently going to hint at Lex Luthor like The Joker and now Norman Osborn.

I stand by the idea that Batman Begins is better than The Dark Knight in terms of an overall film and probably the best Superhero origin film that has been made.

I dont rank it as the BEST superhero film, but it so purely understood how to do an origin film, there is no way it couldn't influence the films that have come after it such as Spidey, Iron Man, probably Superman.

I think this movie is probably best compared to Batman Begins in quality, and I love Batman Begins (quite a lot, it's a tough one for me whether that or TDK is better IMO).

I liked Norman Osborn's presence in the movie, as a fan you feel a sense of anticipation and reassurance, even if you have no clue who Osborn is you get a sense he is a very powerful person who is capable of bad things. So you kind of get a sense of dread as to what's coming next for Peter after that end credits scene. "You leave him alone!!" *gone*

I may be in the minority but to me Batman Begins had the exact same problem Raimi's Spider-man had. It started out with a great origin but once Bruce Wayne suits up it turns into a generic action film with a ridiculous third act. I could have forgiven it if the action scenes were decent but similar to SM1 the action was average. And it didn't help that Bruce Wayne and Rachel had no chemistry whatsoever.

which i'm sorry is not always a good thing. BB was a great film but the mentality of both fans and studios that everything needs to be like it will do nothing but cause the genre to grow stagnant and stutter

The studio didn't jump on the "dark" bandwaggon until TDK did a billion dollars.

Im not saying films need to be like BB, im just saying they did a remarkable job in telling an origin story that I haven't seen done on film.

And off topic, i hate how people lump BB and TDK together, because BB is pretty funny movie. The Nolan films have almost as much humor to them, but never get mentioned, only the dark realism stuff does.

The After Credits revealed two things:

1. The Parents angle is going to be explained more.

2. Norman has a lot of power he can use!

I also think that Connors was possibly hallucinating Norman was there, but who knows!

Excited for the sequel!

Unless its a prison built by Oscorp to keep Lizard detained, so Norman might know the best ins and outs.

We dont know if it was Norman in the cell speaking with Connors. Let's not jump to conclusions.

I was thinking it was either Norman or Electro with him showing up with lightning hits and then supposedly disappearing when lightning hits.

Did Green Goblin ever have the ability to vanish in the comics?

I haven't seen the film yet so I can't tell but some posters here have stated the big possibility of him being an hallucination by Connors, which could explain that "magic"

No.

The appearing and then disappearing ability makes me think that Connors wasnt talking to Osborn but someone working for him.

Well it's all speculative on my part that it was Norman at the end, but i thought it would make sense.

I would like to think maybe Mysterio or Electro...but I couldn't think they would be linked to the Parkers like Norman and Connors would be.

That would be a letdown to have just some random person show up though after all those references of Norman. Oscorp could have a point, it could've been all in Connors' head. We do see him twitching a little during that scene. Overall, the credits scene just looked like a mess.

I don't think it's Norman because -- is that guy even a named actor anywhere? They would obviously cast a well known actor, even a UK or Australian etc well known actor, to portray Norman Osborn.

thank-you!

everyone is assuming it is Norman. It may very well be but he is never named nor shown. This may simply be a messenger on his behalf.

For all we know, Norman may already be forming a Sinister Six of sorts.

Anything is possible right now.

also.
Could it even be the Lizard persona fleshed out further? it did start as voices and Connors did have the scales on his neck... who knows

This is what I was thinking it was..

more like it took a cue from the USM comics...cause you know..it took 12 issues for Peter to become Spidey...and they said the film is heavily inspired by USM.....not every superhero movie is trying to take cues from Nolan....certain things can be done without trying to rip-off of batman
