I enjoyed Kenneth Branagh's version to an extent, but it didn't really do anything for me as far as the character of the Creature, and the Doc himself. I think they could really do something with this story in a better fashion than has been done since the original Karloff version. I remember back in 2000 when they were talking about doing an all CG version of it, and AICN still has the demo clip Universal created in their archived area right here:

Could they revive this yet again? And would you want them to?

isnt Peter Jackson attached to frankenstein?

nah del toro eventually, but with the hobbitness hes now involved with it could be many years, i would like to see doug jones, if bulked a little, for the monster,

a del toro frankenstein would be glorious

Guillmo Del Toro is. And I'm truly excited to see what he'll do. When he get's done with is thousand other projects that are jsut as desireable to see.

Del Toro has like 50 things on his plate right now. Unless he mentions something on record, I can't really go by what the Variety says.

I'd like to see Del Toro's version when he's done with Middle-earth.

i dont think there's anything left to amaze me about frankenstein...

its been overdone more than keira knightly in period films

From Ed Wood:

Bela Lugosi: Karloff? Sidekick? **** YOU! Karloff did not deserve to smell my ****! That limey *****ucker can rot in Hell for all I care!
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: What happened?
Bela Lugosi: How dare that ******* bring up Karloff? You think it takes talent to do Frankenstein? It's all makeup and grunting. [Mocks Frankenstein]
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: Bela, I agree with you 100%. Now, "Dracula," that's a role that requires talent.
Bela Lugosi: Of course. Dracula requires presence. It's all in the eyes, and the voice, and the hands

Frankenstien has been done to death...and I'm pretty sure the last big screne version of Frankenstein still lives up and can last for about 15 years.

Now, the mosnter that NEEDS THE REMAKE, NEW VERSION, BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE treatment is unquestionable or denyable.....and that is..

THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

If he won't direct it, he'll at least write/produce it.

Last I heard, his plan is The Hobbit 1-2 -> Hellboy III -> something else

Id much rather see a new invisible man movie.
But if they make a new Frankenstein, i would say Giamatti for the title role.

I'm excited for Del Toro's vision, I believe he could bring a terric version to the bigscreen.

Here's to hoping for it too actually get made.

I adore the old movie monsters, and I enjoy seeing them on screen. I'd have no problem with this were it given to the right person. But maybe not Del Toro. He has way too many commitments at the moment, plus I'm not sure he'd even be the right person for the material. I know he's the fanboy favourite these days, but Frakenstien would be a great oppurtunity for another director to make his mark. Alfonso Cuaron would be my choice. The way he created dark atmoshpheres in Children of Men was great. I could see him bringing that to a Frankenstien film.

As long as they keep the Monster as the protagonist and make him sympathetic, I'm all for it.

Del Toro directing a Frankenstein film would be incredible, especially if he bases his Monster designs on the Bernie Wrightson illustrations that Wrightson did for an edition of the novel. Some beautifully atmospheric stuff.

That said, I'd much prefer Del Toro make "At The Mountains of Madness" before Frankenstein. To me, getting the masses to finally know and appreciate H.P. Lovecraft is more important than yet another Frankenstein film.

i'm interested to see what del toro does. in my opinion the universal monsters have no limit to what can be done with them, their so perfect and have so much behind them visually and emotionally.

I fully agree with this post. Not to mention the Ed Wood quote was a great choice! :yay:

Personally I also feel as others do, that there isn't much more you can do with Frankenstein. I liked Branagh's version quite a bit and love the original but you have no idea how many direct to video Frankenstein films there have been.

I used to see new ones all the time even back in the VHS days, and just as many in the DVD age.

I'm not saying they should never make a new theatrical version ever again, I just think they should give it more time...so Del Toro can make it. :woot:
