Before anyone says anything: Yes I'm pretty sure that the 360 would do better without the HW shortages, but the SW discrepencies are really suprising. Now yes the 360 list doesn't go as far down because it didn't have as many games as the original Xbox for that period (also suprising) but when you compare the 38th best seling game for each:

Xbox 360
38 FIFA WORLD CUP 2006 14,642
Xbox
38 DAVE MIRRA BMX 2 62,750

That's a huge software discrepency.

According to peter Moore they had 600k worth of 360's in the market for the month of april in America, I doubt that number, but sell through was about 295k for the month of April.

Month Xbox 360
November 722,177 325,902
December 699,597 281,441
January 127,939 249,000
February 139,123 161,000
March 136,388 192,000
April 78,142 295,381

I'd like to see the numbers if the Japanese embraced the 360.

BTW Zen, "In Japan suicide is considered A honorable and noble thing"

^ Actually, because "honorable" begins with a vowel sound (don't forget the "H" is silent) I believe "an" is the appropriate word.

You also have to realize that for the first XBOX, there wasn't a whole lot of people waiting to see what the next Playstation and Nintendo consoles would do before choosing which system to get.

I'm sure that's a good factor to concider.

Also...why is it that the game lists both start at #2?

And this is only US, right? Are there global figures, too, we could see? What's your source? (No, I'm not doubting ya, I just thought I'd look for myself)

Damn it Spidey-Bat!! You stole my sig!

NPD Group, they track and monitor sales of North America, you can register, but they charge an insane price for it. Also Wallmart does not report their numbers to the NPD Group, but all sales tracking sources estimate the sales of Wallmart, so even though the numbers can never be 100 percent accurate, they are very very close.

As far as games go, the numbers are regularly leaked and confirmed by people who are in positions to confirm such things. :o

NONE OF THESE FIGURES MEAN ANYTHING AT ALL, SINCE THE HARDWARE SHORTAGE..........OR COMPLETE LACK OF IT..........LASTED FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS.

Really? That so invalidates my figures then, thanks for telling me Xfriend.

November 2005 326,000
December 2005 281,441
January 2006 249,000
February 2006 161,000
March 2006 192,000
April 2006 295,000

So the hardware shortages lasted 3 months did they? I'll believe you because it furthers my agenda, awesome.

HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THE DROP OFF IN THAT 3-MONTH PERIOD?

Call me crazy, but typically the eliviation of a hardware shortage situation leads to increased sales... Espcially with the debut months being so low for a console (original Xbox was 700 800k for November December IIRC) Now ypou see the funny thing is Microsoft actually went into detail about how the shortages situation was taken care of because they just got a new plant to supply them, and this was around say March and they said "Look for an increase in shipped 360's for April".

Believe it or not their shipped numbers doubled for April, where as they were previously shipping, well...

January 2006 249,000
February 2006 161,000
March 2006 192,000

That much, relatively.

I THOUGHT THE "CRAZY" PART WAS UNDERSTOOD.........BUT YEAH, YOU'RE CERTIFIABLE.:up:

Alright, believe the low numbers were a result of a lack of demand.

IT'S HARD TO TRACK CERTAIN VARIABLES, SUCH AS:

  • HOW MANY STORES STOPPED DISPLAYING '360' PROMOTIONS
  • HOW MANY STORE EMPLOYEES JUST STARTED TELLING PEOPLE "STOP CALLING........WE'RE NOT GETTING ANYMORE '360'S", OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT
  • HOW MANY PEOPLE, SUBSEQUENTLY STOPPED LOOKING FOR A '360', FOR A FEW MONTHS ANYWAY, BEFORE FINALLY REALIZING THEY WERE BECOMING AVAILABLE AGAIN
  • HOW MANY PEOPLE HAD THE CASH READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS, BUT HAD SPENT IT ON OTHER THINGS IN THE INTERIM.
  • HOW MANY PEOPLE DECIDED TO HOLD OFF UNTIL 'E3'.....OR AT LEAST HEAR SOME MORE ABOUT THE 'PS3' AND 'REV'/WII, BEFORE SPENDING THEIR MONEY, SINCE THEY'D ALREADY WAITED 3-6 MONTHS ANYWAY.

Those are all valid points, but the supply chain shows that reguardless Microsoft was selling out during those months, so it's not worth argueing about.

Why do you think April shows a healthy boost compared to the last couple months? E3 wasn't until May.

BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN THE INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY STARTED TO FILL THE DEMAND AGAIN. CASE CLOSED.

MAN......I'M GLAD WE FINALLY GOT THAT RESOLVED. :marv:

It's good that you decided to agree with me.

Obviously the hardware shortages lasted 5 months, because November December the 360 was impossible to find and consoels never sell that low during their debut christmas, that's like a good 900 thousand less than the Xbox 1 sold for November December.

WELL, IT WAS A "SHORTAGE" AFTER MAYBE FEBRUARY.......IT WAS PRETTY MUCH NON-EXISTENT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER LAUNCH. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THEY'LL COME CLOSE TO THAT "FIRST TO 10 MILLION" BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR.......LIKE THEY HOPE/THINK THEY WILL. BUT, THEY SHOULD AVERAGE AROUND 300K/MONTH UNTIL ABOUT OCTOBER.

SOMETHING OCCURED TO ME THE OTHER DAY. THIS RAT RACE IS ABOUT TO LOOK LIKE THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE BACK IN THE EARLY 90'S ('92 ? ), WHEN ROSS PEROT WAS RUNNING AS AN INDEPENDENT. EVERYONE WAS SAYING 'PEROT'S SUPPORTERS WOULD ONLY SERVE TO HELP THE DEMOCRAT'S (CLINTON)........AND THEY DID, IN A WAY.

'360' = CLINTON/UNDERDOG/ NEW GUY, TRYING TO APPEAL TO THE YOUNG/HIP
'PS3' = BUSH SR./INCUMBENT/HOPING TO MAINTAIN IT'S REIGN, BUT HAD ALOT OF FACTORS WEIGHING AGAINST THAT
'WII' = PEROT/X-FACTOR/RADICAL THINKER/BELOVED BY MANY FOR BOLDNESS: WHOEVER GOES WITH THEM, WILL ONLY BE HURTING THE INCUMBENT.

THIS COULD BE INTERESTING!

election stuff
I see where you're going with this, and I mostly agree, but I think the big factor here will be the cross buyers. The people who already own a 360 and will buy a Wii, or the people who plan to buy both a PS3 and a Wii. In an election you cant vote for two or more candidates, so the Wii is an x-factor (you're right on the money with that) that until its release nobody will truly be able to predict how it will affect the rest of the market.
