NYC expected to pass Trans Fat Ban

Whoa, craziness. Well, I just hope this really pisses off a lot of the fat-addicted lardmouths who b**tched about how smokers shouldn't be allowed to smoke in bars.

I'm all for it. Smoke and eat fatty foods at your own damn house.

BTW this is ridiculous. People should be informed and make whatever choice they want. There are enough restaurants in NYC that if they dont want or need McDs the people can go somewhere else.

People. Are. Stupid.

Left to our own devices, some people would actually think that smoking and eating fatty food were good ideas. If Uncle Sam has to kick the door in and tell you to "cut it out", then so be it.

A couple of years ago I would have been against this, but I think it's a good idea now. People are too fat! It's getting to the point in which its just ridiculous! So, yeah, cut back on fatty food. Why not? Why are people against this?!

Cuz they're all about "the man" not having so much say in what the average Joe does on his own time.

I'm only for it out of spite as a smoker, but I'm pretty vehemently against both in general.

I see where people are coming from because I agree that greesy cheeseburger tastes A MILLION TIMES better than a carrot. So, I think in order for this ban to work these people need to make sure that the healthy food tastes as good as the non-healthy one.

Well that's always been the prob with healthy food; you try to make it taste good and you ruin the nutritional value. Not to mention the fact that it's WAAAY more expensive than a greasy cheeseburger.

I'm sure the tast difference will be negligible, but some fatty will claim to like this new oil less

I'm against it because I dont think the government should have that kind of say in our choice for what we want to do.

Granted people are stupid and left to themselves they may in fact just make a bad choice, but it should be their choice to make.

Besides what comes after this in the name of health. . . . bans on caffeine? Another round of Prohibition? Law suits against sugar farmers for dentist bills?

Its not the governments choice. Its the peoples and it should stay that way.

Exactly! People complain about McDonalds but McDonalds has done nothing wrong! They see a cheeseburger for ONE dollar! I wanna see Subway sell a sandwitch for a buck! That's what I hate! Like, I try to eat as healthy as possible but sometimes its not in my budget! Sometimes I have to say, "f--k it!" and spend three bucks at McDonalds instead of 10 at Subway.

I see where you are coming from with this statement. In fact, thats why I said earlier that a couple of years ago I would have been completely against this. But, times have changed! Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in America. Something needs to be done about it. Like I said, this could be pulled off if try to figure out a way to make healthy foods as tasty as non-healthy food. If they pull that off this can be successful.

The one thing I'll let the gov't have free reign over is health. War and other stuff; we'll talk about that later but if Uncle Sam wants to help keep me healthy, I'm down.

That's quite the slippery slope.

Next Uncle Sam is going to be chasing us around the track with a whip for obligatory exercise sessions.

Awesome! Now lets institute mandatory exercise and group calisthenics before work each and every morning of the new six day work week. Perhaps if people are found to have cholesterol that is above acceptable government regulations then they are put on probation and given three months to bring it in check. If they don't, they are fired. Diabetics should just be shot upon diagnosis. Heart attack victims as well. Have high blood pressure? Better get it lower or you too will die. These people are dragging down our health care and insurance systems. We have only enough room for healthy people in this country and those are the people the health care and insurance industries need to be able to focus their attentions to.

Legislate, legislate. New York is now a police state. If you're a fatty we'll pack your body in a crate and increase your family's insurance rates. There is no room for dissent or debate. No smoking or eating fat, freedom of choice you too will learn to hate. We're saving you from yourselves and your human traits.

^Holla! I'm movin back to NY. I like that cholesteral probation idea. :o

Times may have changed but that doesnt make it right to legislate something like this. Its a restriction on personal actions, and when laws like this pass it opens the way for things like those in jag's post.

While I agree making healthy food more prevalent is the way to go, there needs to be a supplier for the demand. In fact, truth is there are plenty of places with healthy alternatives but its up to people to make the choice to go there not the government to demand it.

The one thing I'll let the gov't have free reign over is health. War and other stuff; we'll talk about that later but if Uncle Sam wants to help keep me healthy, I'm down.

No absolutely not. The government should protect us from foriegn threats (though the methods are up for debate at another time), build roads & infrastructure, settle disputes among parties, and allow for the fair and safe trade of goods and services.

The fact is this paricular item fills a basic need for nutrition, and when eaten in moderation has little effect on the body. Its not up to the governement to say you cant have a cheeseburger. Its up to each person to decide if they want that or another alternative, which can be obtained.

When we give up the ability to choose freely on issues like this we open the door for someone to take away our ability to choose freely on other issues by using similar rational.

On my travels around Europe, you know what I noticed? Places like Berlin, Vienna, Prague, pretty much everywhere... they have ****loads of McDonalds. I'm talking about not being able to walk down a street without seeing two McDonalds. And they had signs telling you where to find the nearest one too.

And you know what? On my travels, I never saw so few fat people. In fact, everyone around Europe is hot. I'm not sure which country had the hottest people, but everywhere (except Slovakia) the people were hot!! No fat people!!

This is for two reasons, I think. People in these countries look after themselves. They cycle all over the damn place. There are designated cycling areas pretty much everywhere. And they don't over do it. As in, they don't go to Mcy Ds every day like some people do. They eat well and cycle alot. That's why they are so hot and there are so few fat people.

So I don't think foods should be banned.

I think people should just be more health concious. Get more people on bicycles, that type of thing.

All this means is that they can't use any partially hydrogenated oils anymore. It's a very smart ruling, IMO.

That's the trouble with idealogues. There is no limits as to how much they want to control people.

It doesn't do any good to give them what they want, because they moment they get what they want, they want more.
