So I entered this thread "O.K., so who's UNHAPPY with the casting?" only to find the topic is "Who's unhappy with Liv Tyler." Like most other people, I have no problem with her. I get the feeling she's going to end up having played a minor role when the NYC dust has settled.
If anything this shoud be an insult to woman everywhere because it conveys that the female roles in these superhero movies aren't as important as the male one.
Not sure if the casting is an insult to "women everywhere," but your comment definitely insults Liv Tyler. Seems she at least deserves a chance before you can say she's downgraded the role.
I also kind of agree that Ashley is too old, even if she's only a year older than Norton. She definitely conveys mature, strong-willed, etc., but maybe is a little
too motherly. Banner needs a peer to level with him, not an elder, and while Norton beckons "youthful," I'd say Ashley goes in the other direction. Jennifer Connelly was perfect IMO.
Yes, I still find him to be a terrible Spider-man. In fact while watching Spider-man 3 I thought to myself "You know, Topher Grace would have been a better Spider-man than Tobey Maguire..."
Topher Grace, without a doubt, and he would have been much better than Tobey. I was upset when I first heard Topher was cast as Venom not because I thought he was wrong for the part but I knew if they were ever to recast, Topher would not get the chance to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
No way. Dudes, the franchise grossed $2.5 BILLION worldwide. In, like, five years. No matter how much you like/dislike Tobey, it's hard to argue against those numbers. And Topher came off as cocky anyway... was perfectly suited for Venom and we should leave it at that. But hindsight is always 20/20, as they say.
Now for some of my own ideas that people may be obliged to rip on...
Call me crazy, but I really liked Katie Holmes in BB. Maybe I was distracted because I think she's hot, but I thought she was fine for the role. Also liked Kate Bosworth. For TIH, this may be in left field, but what about Christina Ricci? I think she has serious Betty potential. Also thought Kate Beckinsale would've been good, but it is what it is... we've got Liv Tyler and darnit, I'm willing to give her a chance.
Maybe it's just me, but I guess all-in-all I don't see these women roles as being all-important for the film adaptations.
