Everybody around here seems to be dancing around the camp fire, singing ring-a-ring-a roses about TIH casting. But no cast is perfect. As much as love Norton, Roth and Co, there's seems to be one weak chain in the link (imo).....Tyler!

As much as i've meditated, pondered and prayed on the subject, i still can't see her as Betty Ross. I've come around on Hurt's casting but can't seem to do the same on her's. I hope i'm wrong but i can't see it...

....i still want Ashley-'I'd luv to hump her brains out'-Judd for Betty. She seems to embody Betty to a T for me:

...so on that note; does anyone else have a prob with some of the cast?

First, lets address some issues. It seems as though most you guys are never satisfied with anything, let alone the cast. When SM first came out, people were going nuts saying Tobey was wrong for the part. Could you see anyone else doing the role? Don't think so. Now mind you, I know you feel Tyler's wrong for the role, but give her a chance. I wasn't crazy about Bana playing Banner. He was ok, not oscar worthy. So, that being said, Ashley is too old to play Betty and she is not wholesome enough, doesnt have the apple pie look as did Jennifer. If anyone else I'd choose CharlizeTheron, Natalie Portman or now add Megan Fox. I would still take Tyler only because she is a fan and that means she will be really into her role. I think she will surprise many, including you. It's not like you can boycott her selection, lmao.

Edward Norton, Tim Roth and William Hurt are all great actors, but Liv Tyler... yea... she´s pretty much the odd one in the bunch

Let me 1st say I'm happy with Tyler. She'll do fine, IMO. That said, I think Judd and Theron would've been really good choices as well, maybe even better than Tyler. I don't see how Judd is too old. Betty's not a girl, she's a grown woman. Portman on the other hand does strike me as too young as is Fox. Besides, Betty isn't an uber-hot fashion model type. She's a military brat who has to convey the kind of long-suffering that is the halmark of her character. More than just about any other superhero's significant other, she will go through hell for her beau. She's had more crap to go through than any other girlfriend/wife in comics. She should be called Betty "Stand by your Man" Ross. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not too happy about Tyler either, but I'll give her a chance. Besides, she's already been cast, so just going to have to live with it. I'll just enjoy the ride, like that one thread suggests. :)

Huh. Batman Begins all over again.

Liv Tyler = Katie Holmes

I'm perfectly fine with the casting to be honest. I believe Liv Tyler can pull off a scientist with the proper material.

Connely was easier to buy as a scientist, but she ain't coming back, so they decided to get someone who bears a vague resemblance to her.:(

still, could be worse.

nothing wrong with the casting

I kinda felt the same way about her being the oddball, but I also feel that Jennifer Connelly was absolutely perfect in the role to begin with, so no matter who they cast I wouldn't have expected them to do any better. Jennifer had that blend of beauty with the ability to come across as being truly intelligent. Plus she won an Oscar for essentially the same kind of role in A Beautiful Mind, playing the trusted wife to a brilliant man with mental issues. That being said, I don't think Tyler will destroy the film anymore than anyone else might have...

Funny about how the only cast member that causes problem is a woman...

that reminds me of Eva Mendes in GR, people were bashing the s##t out of her, where Nic Goofy Cage, was left without a dent

Or yes,
Katie Holmes, Kate Bosworth, to name but a few...

anyway,
I'm confident Liv Tyler will bring some "grace" to Betty, no problem whatsoever.
The good thing about Tyler, is that she doesn't have that "bimbo" image that isn't Betty anyway...
No need for Megan FOx or the likes, as from scratch it's not Betty..
Betty was a women or heart and will, beautiful but not sexy
Connely pull that off exceptionnaly well, and I'm confident Tyler will act up to it, yet, doing her own Betty

Connelly was better...she was pretty and looked smart.
Tyler...is just pretty. But she was good in LOTRs and although she is not as good as Jennifer, she is no Katie Holmes :o

C'mon! Bad or unsuitable for the role is bad or unsuitable for the role. Eva Mendes? Haven't seen GR yet, but the clips that feature Eva were pretty bad. Not that Cage was any better. KaTe Holmes and Kate Bosworth, bouth not right for they're parts, too young. But that's just my opinion.

Yes i'm satisfied with the casting in general, but just like Batman Begins they assmeble a great cast, then when i comes to the female lead they decide to lower the bar. If anything this shoud be an insult to woman everywhere because it conveys that the female roles in these superhero movies aren't as important as the male one. Case in point, it's far from it. There are alot of high caliber actresses out there who fit the Betty bill. This casting looks like they took the BB, or the Superman Reurns route.

And to say Ashley Judd is too old is ridiculous. Firstly she's a year older than Norton. Secondly the Betty Ross character is far from the damsel in distress types we typically see in other hero movies. If anything, Banner/Hulk is the one who's in distress and Betty is his saviour, rock and voice of reason. We need a mature, strong and independent female body to carry the role of Betty. One that's not afraid to speak up for Bruce, and go against the grain when need be because of her pity/understanding for the creature. Ashley Judd has never come off as being bimbo-ish in any of her movies (that i've seen), and because of her composure and on-screen presense i can easily see her as a well respected Doctor. Even if she does look a tad older than baby face Norton, that's a good thing. Betty Ross is more of a motherly figure to the Hulk-she's one of the ONLy ppl Hulk actually listens too. Judd fits the bill in all aspects of the Betty charcter.

Like i said, nothing personnel against Tyler, and i really hope i'm wrong but for right now i'm getting flashbacks of Katie Holmes in BB and Bosworth in SR.

Haven't seen Ghost Rider but that's because i've NEVER heard ANYTHING postive about it yet!:csad:

P.S. How can you say Judd is not apple pie-ish?

i'd bone miss Jude in a heart beat but she's a bit old.

When SM first came out, people were going nuts saying Tobey was wrong for the part. Could you see anyone else doing the role?

Yes, I still find him to be a terrible Spider-man. In fact while watching Spider-man 3 I thought to myself "You know, Topher Grace would have been a better Spider-man than Tobey Maguire..."

I still hate unfunny, super emo Spidey. (Just my opinion, as I know so many love him.)

Anyway, back on topic, as far as Liv Tyler as Betty, honestly I don't mind a bit. I don't expect the Betty role to bring much to the table in terms of story, in fact, I never did. Yes she's the love interest. Yes she is the only one to reach Bruce. But, for me as much as I loved the comics, she was always over shadowed, and just kind of "there." I felt it brought it even less with Jennifer in the actress's seat. Sure she's a great actor, but she was just dull all through-out the movie.

Topher Grace, without a doubt, and he would have been much better than Tobey. I was upset when I first heard Topher was cast as Venom not because I thought he was wrong for the part but I knew if they were ever to recast, Topher would not get the chance to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Yes, I've noticed that myself. From Dunst to Holmes to Alba to Bosworth and now we have this thread on Tyler. Alba, IMO, is by far the worst of the bunch, just completely miscast. Bosworth is up there as well for the same reasons. Connelly for me was easily the best of the bunch.

I think Tyler will do fine in the role, I'm not really worried about her but she is definitely a significant downgrade from Connelly. Thinking about it, Ashley Judd is a pretty good choice for the role. She's even closer in age to Norton(Norton born 1969, Judd 1968 and Tyler 1977 :wow:).

My biggest concern for this cast though, is William Hurt. And yes, I have seen A History of Violence, and I'm still not convinced he's right for the role. I don't see him being better than Sam Elliott in the same role.

Probably there could've been someone better and/or more good looking than Tyler. But at least she's an improvement from Jennifer Connelly.

So I entered this thread "O.K., so who's UNHAPPY with the casting?" only to find the topic is "Who's unhappy with Liv Tyler." Like most other people, I have no problem with her. I get the feeling she's going to end up having played a minor role when the NYC dust has settled.

Not sure if the casting is an insult to "women everywhere," but your comment definitely insults Liv Tyler. Seems she at least deserves a chance before you can say she's downgraded the role.

I also kind of agree that Ashley is too old, even if she's only a year older than Norton. She definitely conveys mature, strong-willed, etc., but maybe is a little too motherly. Banner needs a peer to level with him, not an elder, and while Norton beckons "youthful," I'd say Ashley goes in the other direction. Jennifer Connelly was perfect IMO.

No way. Dudes, the franchise grossed $2.5 BILLION worldwide. In, like, five years. No matter how much you like/dislike Tobey, it's hard to argue against those numbers. And Topher came off as cocky anyway... was perfectly suited for Venom and we should leave it at that. But hindsight is always 20/20, as they say.

Now for some of my own ideas that people may be obliged to rip on...

Call me crazy, but I really liked Katie Holmes in BB. Maybe I was distracted because I think she's hot, but I thought she was fine for the role. Also liked Kate Bosworth. For TIH, this may be in left field, but what about Christina Ricci? I think she has serious Betty potential. Also thought Kate Beckinsale would've been good, but it is what it is... we've got Liv Tyler and darnit, I'm willing to give her a chance.

Maybe it's just me, but I guess all-in-all I don't see these women roles as being all-important for the film adaptations.

Tobey is not the reason the franchise has made as much it has, although he certainly has not hurt it. The name "Spider-Man" and how well made the first two movies were is why that franchise has grossed what it has. If Topher was Spider-Man for the first film, the series would still have been a mega success.

And Topher came off as cocky anyway

He came off as cocky because that was what was required for the role of Brock. Had he been required to crack a few quips as Spider-Man and show the nerdiness of Pete, he would have been excellent. It's not that I disliked Tobey though, I just think Topher would have been better, IMO.

Both of your responses were predictable, but... I'll respectfully disagree and allow the conversation to get back on track. Oh, and YES, thank you Michael Bay... I share those sentiments 100%.
