I've been trying to remember the name of a movie I watched as a kid, and today I finally found it.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

There's also an animated film I used to love as a kid, but for the life of me I can't remember much of anything. I want to say it was Japanese animation, and the only clear thing I remember is it had two dragons (one red, one white) fighting each other. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about, please help me out.

Anyway, what are some of those obscure movies you'd watch as a kid. The ones that people would have no idea what you were talking about if you were to mention to them?

The Black Cauldron. I was...Christ probably 6 or 7 when I first saw this beauty. I vaguely remember creepy animation and lot of goblins and lost children, I don't remember much..just that I enjoyed it a lot

The Gate
Horror film about three kids that accidentally open a gate to hell.

I remember "The Alien Factor." I saw it as a child twice during the early 80's and I liked it a lot since it had somehow a "documentary" feeling. The story was about a spaceship landing somewhere in the US and three alien creatures that were supposed to go to an alien zoo were on the loose, killing people. In the end I remember the last creature being a giant lizard-like monster and the expert in aliens was an alien actually. Now the thing is that in the end he kept hidden because his "human" disguise was torn apart. A girl asks him to show himself and he refuses because "to you I'd be hideous." In the last scene you can see the alien's face and jesus, he was incredibly horrible. Later that night I couldn't sleep just thinking of that face.

It took me years to find that movie on internet since I didn't remember the name, just the plot. Currently you can find the whole movie on youtube and well, the "documentary" vibe I talked about was because the movie was extremely low-budget and an Ed Wood-like production from 1977, although I've found out it became a cult movie amongst its fans.

I never saw the animated film... but I was a huge fan of the video game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94m8Uww2MIg

Mr Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy. Please tell me someone else used to watch those.

God I forgot about the Mr. Boogedy films. Loved them as a child. I wonder how they have held up.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It was like Disney was trying to copy Mary Poppins' success but it didn't get anywhere near that popular. It's a shame too, because it's got possessed suits of armor fighting Nazis, which is one of the most badass things ever seen in a Disney movie.

I bought a bootlegged DVD of both movies a few years ago, then lost t at some point during a move (it came with no case or cover art). I never even got around to watching them. I am still holding on to hope that Disney will release it on DVD at some point.

One that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid was, believe it or not, a movie about ants.

This was a weird, weird frickin' movie, about aliens contacting and controlling the ants in a bid to take over the world. But there was nothing sensationalist or horrific about it --- instead, it was a cerebral, intelligent, art-house type movie that played like some bad acid flashback. In retrospect, Phase IV really *is* a good movie and has become a cult classic amongst old-school sci-fi fans, but to a kid, this one's atmosphere and visuals gave me nightmares that endured well into my adult years.

I watch way too many off the cuff films... I've seen ALL these films but Nemo :/

Phase IV is awesome ^_^

When I was a kick I was in love with dinosaurs and Jurassic Park. When we were at a video rental place I saw a dinosaur on the cover of a vhs and my parents let me rent it and that movie was Carnosaur, it scared the crap out of me as a kid. I just watched it on netflix and I can't believe how awful it is haha

It's not really that obscure but I was obsessed with the An American Tail series as a kid.

Oh man, two that come to mind are Warriors of Virtue and My Pet Monster. I vaguely remember both of them and I know I loved them.

OMG this same thing happened to me except it was my dinosaur-obsessed friend who was having a slumber party and rented that movie. Which meant a whole room full of traumatized kids, lol. Your comment made me curious enough to look up the trailer on YouTube, and...wow. It looks hilarious now.

How obscure is Land Before Time? Those movies were among the many that shaped my childhood.

When I was a kid I remember watching a film Called Munchie it was very weird movie and the creature in it was creepy it even got a sequel
