Then they'd just shoot themselves in the foot and end up leaving the characters there without a book focusing on them. Sure, X-Men has them pop up from time to time, but they focus more on their own guys and Uncanny isn't coming back any time soon and even when they do, they'd then have to take on some of the Astonishing members and then that would leave us with two overcrowded books.

Hmm. You do have a point, and the cast of Astonishing is easily the most All-Star Heavy.

Yeah, simply cancelling it isn't an option for them. I'm curious to see when they're going to announce the replacement, but I suppose it's still a way off.

Yeah, 3 X-Men books with great creators is more bankable then 2 X-men books with great creators. Hell, 3 X-Men books with **** creators is more bankable then 2 X-Men books with great creators. (make sense?)

Whedon has said several times he would like Ellis to follow him, but, Newuniversal and Nextwave on Ellis' plate it might be difficult. It would seem logical to put another all-star creator on AXM. Loeb perhaps? Nah, too busy. Gaiman? It could be a possibility. Millar? Doubtful. Greg Pak? Certainly would make sense. Bendis? God, I hope not.

I can't see them ending AXM after Whedon leaves, for many reasons, including the X-Men has enough major characters to sustain 3 books. (And Marvel love splitting franchises up! Look what they're doing with New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Omega Flight). Then again, Axel Alonso and Joe Q might want to cull some books with all the new team books coming out.

it all depends if they want a substitude team for astonishing......

I don't think cancelling Astonishing is an option for them, considering that the other two books are already settled on their rosters, with one in space for atleast the next year. So just adding their characters to X-Men would just crowd the book even more. Considering that Marvel usually has some idea who they want to run their books when it comes to writer and artist, i find it odd that this hasn't already been settled yet. Joe Q needs to get off his ass.

They cancelled Xtreme X-men and it had Chris freakin Claremont writing it. That said. I hope they don't cancel it and probably wont...i hope

Yeah, but they had another core title lined up. The only way I see them cancelling Astonishing is if they shake up the core titles again and redistribute the AXM team, but maintaining 3 core titles. We'll see.

The Astonishing X-Men hardcover collection has two covers. Which is the variant?

Just read this over at Uncanny X-Men.net. Take it with a grain of salt, but the person claims to have gotten AXM #17 early and gives full spoilers:

Someone, it's unclear who, makes Kitty think that she has a son with Peter, and that the X-Men kidnapped the son and put him in the Manger. Lockheed is the mole, and Brand talks to him in his language. Hank is completely animal now, and he kills and eats a deer on campus. Wolverine, after getting hit on the head a few times, finds a can of beer, and may be breaking free of Cassie's control. Perfection accuses Emma of being an "impostor" and claims to be the real Emma Frost...and then Cyclops shoots her in the back three times! :wow: He's wearing the Quitely costume, for those who care about such things.

So yeah...stuff's going down now.

I've seen both in stores, usually the second one, but I don't know if the first one is a variant, per se, as opposed to just a different printing.

Either way, the first one is ugly as sin.

ah, i so didn't want to read that and then did it anyway.

many many pages back, I suggested that [blackout]Lockheed (_____)[/blackout] could be the mole, and then I think I edited it because I thought that was the dumbest suggestion ever. [blackout]I don't quite see it though, I mean, he's so loyal to Kitty. [/blackout]

Also, why the f is Cyke [blackout]wearing the Quitely uniform now? I wonder if they explain it. Oh, and hahaha with Wolverine finding beer.[/blackout]

I agree, I never really thought Lockheed would be the mole either, unless there's more to that as well. In retrospect, though, it was set up in issue one, when Lockheed took so long to arrive. As for the Quietly uniform, I guess he doesn't need the skullcap/visor thing anymore? I'm more curious as to the total badassness of shooting Emma/Perfection.

This is a BIG issue. Is it tomorrow yet?

Oh yeah, I didn't think of the beginning when Lockheed was late arriving. The only thing that tipped me off is when they said their mole was trapped in the Danger Room, Lockheed was the only character that was known, but not under suspicion, other than Kitty of course and I thought that would be how they'd pick the mole.

Not so thrilled about a freaking dragon being the mole. The rest of the issue sounds good though.

what else is coming out soon besides Astonishing X-Men?

just go on the marvel website... they tell you what's coming out every week.

Tomorrow, I'm picking up: Astonishing, First Class, Civil War: X-Men, Civil War #4 and last week's Ultimate that the shop somehow sold out of at 12 noon on Wednesday. They'd better have Astonishing. I'll flip if they don't.

My piggy bank just wants to crawl up and cry right now. 17 book in 2 weeks is crazy. Salivating, but crazy.

Let's see, I'm getting: Astonishing, Civil War, Civil War X-Men, Nextwave, Runaways, X-Factor and X-Men First Class. -keyboard smashes asdfjklpi;-

Try 16 books this week, 17 next.

I need to cut my pull list down.:cmad: :csad:

And if by finding beer breaks Wolverine's boy mode, that would be so funny.

I have to track down Runaways digests now that Whedon will be headed over there. I always wanted to get them, but kept putting it off. Not much choice now, though.

EDIT: The whole beer thing with Logan seems very funny, although I'll be sad to see "little boy Logan" go.
