hooked on batman now because of court of owls

is there anything else in the bat family to check out?

and yea, i WILL be reading death of the family.

I liked Tomasi's Batman & Robin until recently. The first arc's definitely worth a read if you want to try it out. Batman Incorporated's been good too, but it's hard to recommend that if you haven't read the rest of Morrison's run.

I lost interest in B&R during this "5 stages of grief" arc and dropped it with the Batman & Red Hood isssue. I gave Batman another chance with this Zero Year thing and it's the first time I've enjoyed that book since the first 5 issues. Not sure if I'll pick it back up permanently but I'll keep an eye on this arc and see how it goes for now.

it's a pity, batman and catwoman has been really good.

I don't like this current version of Selina at all. Had it been the Catwoman from the first 2 issues of Inc. Vol. 1 I would've been all over that issue like flies on poop.

So not liking Zero Year, Snyder is aping so much from TDK Trilogy it's pathetic... and just putting his own aggressive and nonsensical treatment on it.

B&R is dead in the water for me after Damian's death, Batwoman is so/so, Batman is meh, haven't bothered with Tec because of Daniel's originally being on it... Honestly, The Bat Universe has been in a downward spiral of crap since #5/#6 of the 'New 52' junk.

don't really care for bruce meeting his villains before he becomes batman ioo

'tec actually turned around pretty well with Layman as the writer. Only reason I haven't bought it since the end of the Emperor Penguin arc is because I want to continue buying Superior Spider-Man and All-New X-Men and don't have the money in my comic book budget to buy all 3 right now. Once the final issues of Demon Knights, Dial H and Inc hit I may just add it back to the pull list since I'll have extra comic book cash again.

And, the only good comic is coming to an end...

What exactly is Snyder aping?

I'm with Cain on this one. Zero Year, two issues in, is the first time since issue 14, the issue that I dropped the book, that i've actually enjoyed the title.

I dropped it with number 15 and never looked back till people who's comic book opinions I respect kept telling me to check out the Zero Year issues. Sure it has it's cliche moments but I'm enjoying it cause I finally feel Snyder is getting better with pacing. Much better than he was during the first 2 arcs.

He's finally getting rid of his dumb overtly drawn out monologues in every issue which is a big reason I dumped the book in the first place and he's also giving Capullo more space to breathe so that he could do some visual storytelling of his own. So far so good.

Bats and Sups on the Big Screen together is a dream that's about to come true in Summer 2015.

DOTF
-Joker's Heath-esque monologues, even some actual words ripped from TDK

Zero Year
-Bruce 'dead' while on his travels
-Wayne tech in the hands of enemies
-old guy running WE into the ground, doing illegal business

And, that is just the blatant ones, many more little things here and there.

I love the trilogy, don't get me wrong. It's cool to make nods to it; Narrows, etc. but to outright steal stuff is kind of sad.

I really hate how much Snyder has fallen down his totem. He keeps getting worse, it sucks. I really thought he'd be able to stand next to Brubaker, Rucka, and Co. in a few years down the line but not anymore.

Zero year is not convinving to me so far. On the other hand, Layman is quite good on Tec.

Kubert makes the 52 Batsuit look...not fugly. Especially the bat symbol. Somewhere between Jim Lee and now it went on Weight Watchers.

I think this is relatively silly.

For starters, Snyder's Joker in DOTF was written consistent to how Snyder wrote The Joker in Black Mirror. No one complained back then.

Bruce being declared dead is a good idea, so that Snyder "borrowed" it doesn't bother me one bit. On top of that, the idea of it in the New52 was established back in Zero Month and I didn't see anyone accusing Snyder of ripping off Nolan's films.

WayneTech in the hands of enemies, I'm almost positive, is nothing new to the world of Batman.

Old guy running Wayne Enterprises into the ground. Pretty general comparison, considering the guy in Batman Begins has no real personal relationship with Bruce Wayne at all. In Zero Year, it's his Uncle. There's more drama to be had. And regardless of the fact that the idea is lifted from Batman Begins in no way diminishes what Snyder's done in his book thus far.

And let's not forget the Red Hood Gang. That's an epic part of this storyline that I don't recall seeing much of before. The ending to the last issue was awesome as all the RHG appeared on the street and RH1 gave that great line:

"Pity too, he was a great tipper."

I'm still digging both Batman and Batman and Robin. Seeing Bruce handle the situation has been amazing.

Man oh man! I was so torn about Year Zero at first but issue 22 was outstanding! At least IMO. That page with the dialogue spiral with Bruce and Nygma meeting for the first time. Wow! Loved it! Plus, I love seeing Bruce fighting without the suit. Ive always kinda hated how much he actually tries to differentiate and act like Bats and Bruce are actually two different people and seeing him like this just tears down that barrier between them. Loving this

I am enjoying Year Zero (thus far) more than Death of the Family. Snyder writes the Riddler quite well; I love the Egyptian puzzle stone sequence between Bruce and him in the most recent issue. I find the claims of Snyder 'aping' Nolan's trilogy to be arbitrary; Nolan incorporated a mass of images, scenarios, and dialogue from the comics (as Gotham Alleys has beautifully illustrated in their post on each film.) If anything, this intellectual incest is nothing new; it has been going on for quite some time in the comics medium.

So, Grant's nearly done, the preview came out and was then snatched back up.

....This is gonna be a sad week.

Worst part is, Morrison's run won't get even half the balloons and confetti that Johns' GL ending did.

To be fair, though, I think Johns accomplished a heck of a lot more than Morrison did. Both were epic runs, but Johns turned the GL title from a mediocre title into a successful franchise with a lot more depth than it previously had. Morrison wrote a confusing-at-times epic that started amazing but eventually dwindled to the point of being a 3rd string Batman book. I mean, most of his stuff has been completely ignored since the New52 (save Damian). Yeah, I really enjoyed Morrison's run (save the return of Bruce Wayne story that was much too convoluted for its own good), but I think Johns gave more to the Green Lantern than Morrison ever did to Batman. Damian is the only exception, and he took that away.
