Historians have linked obelisks to the Egyptian gods and sunlight, particularly Ra, who was the greatest of the pantheon and subsequently had the largest cult. Pharaohs had authority because they claimed to be direct descendants from Ra (later, Horus). You don't disobey someone who is considered a god on Earth unless you want to spend the rest of your life as a slave, y'know? They were buried in tombs and pyramids with special preparations done (organs removed, belongings stored, etc.) because the royals believed in life after death. Morrison's stated more than once that he sees superheroes as the new gods. The Al Ghuls view themselves as part of a dynasty; they are destined to rule the world, politics and free will be damned. Sounds familiar. So what does all this mean for the story? [BLACKOUT]The empty graves suggest eventual resurrection for Talia and Damian, a common theme both in modern superhero comics and ancient Egypt's mythology.[/BLACKOUT]

The gravestones are frozen rays of sunlight in a bleak, dark, grim thunderstorm. Semiotics!
Damnit, I love Morrison.

I am super excited to get the new issue of Batwoman this month

And curious what the DEO are up to with Bane. I had a probably completely wrong theory that, as Kate is leaving the DEO after this mission, they want him to be their newest agent. Leading to a full on Kate vs Bane confrontation

We know Bones is a scumbag at this point after all he'd probably be fine with working with evil junkie Mexican wrestlers :ninja:

And a Batwoman vs Bane and the DEO arc could be fab

what bother me is not that Morrison makes a reference to Snyder's run. IT's the whole "it's like zero year". The same thing happened in Batman#19. Usually, writers don't write things like "remember during knightfall bruce, when you got your back broken?" or "I'm glad you made me Robin during The Dark victory". The only exception that make sense to me is no man's land.

Maybe the events of Zero Year will be referred to as Zero Year in story. Gotham did have that jungle in it.

Gordon refers to the destroyed, delapidated area of Gotham as "like Zero Year".

I wonder if Detective Comics or Batman & Robin will show Gotham being rebuilt following the conclusion of Batman Inc? Or if it'll just be magically fixed and forgotten that it ever happened

Probably the latter...

All Bruce really needs to do is toss a few rolled up bundles of million dollar bills Barry Allen's way and get him to rebuild everything at super speed

I posted this in the "Relaunch" thread, but I feel it's appropriate here as well, as it directly ties into Damien and the conclusion of Morrison's Bat-continuity.

I have been one of Snyder's biggest defenders, but in the Annual for Batman, he made a decision that kind-of irked me off: namely, he identified the builder of Arkham Asylum as Abraham Arkham, instead of Amadeus. I hope there will be an explanation for this decision in the future; the only one I can think of is that according to what a Google search yielded, one definition of the name Abraham is "father of many," while Amadeus is "love of g/G/od."

I hope he changed the name so that he could build off the idea of Arkham as the father of the new criminals in Gotham. Textually, it is not supported, as the one female prisoner whose name eludes me at the moment referred to Batman as the source for all of the maniacs in the asylum, who deprive her of the attention she requires.

I am hoping that this alteration serves a purpose and is not a symptom of ego drunk-revision. It is frustrating when a character is purged for no reason - and as a result jettisons the awesome history of the asylum.

Don't get me wrong: I'll still defend him, because the work he has produced has been really good, save for the "reveal" in Death of the Family. But, I will not be as fierce a defender if this modification is not utilized/expanded upon in the texts.

of all the things they changed in batman thats what you get mad about

I can't tell which I love more, the message of that page, or how grumpy Clayface looks in that box.

I actually hate that message. Yes, I like the old comics (for me it's more pre-OMD Spider-Man than DC stuff) but I've already read those. I love the ongoing adventures of the character. Those stories, I liked them but they're dead. The story's finished. There's nothing left to go back to. Without new stories, those old ones just make the fact that there will no longer be new stories all the more bitter.

I get that, but eventually, some creators will come along and do new stories with that character you might enjoy. It's just a matter of time (and patience).

No, I doubt it. For me it's Spider-Man, and I don't see them ever bringing Peter and MJ together and reinstating their years of marriage. Without that, I just can't get into it.

As far as DC goes, I only read Batman and Green Lantern prior to the New52 (starting with Morrison and Johns), so it hasn't really bothered me much. But I can see why people get ticked off by it. If Marvel did the same thing I'd have likely dropped the whole line.

I feel the same way when people say "Go read the old Wally West stories if you want to read him so much."

a kathy/kate kane hybrid showed up in batman '66 this week

she appears to be hetero :o

EW :barf:

I have literally no interest in reading about her in that case

There's only one Kate Kane I want to read about and thats the infinitely superior lesbian version starring in Batwoman each month :hrt:

Flipped through the new issue of Batwing this week

The new DCU version of Lady Vic is pretty awesome and its neat that other writers are using the Club of Villains characters. Looking forward to Charlie Caligula showing up next issue

Yeah I'm pleased that they didn't alter her costume or personality too much

She was already a neat villain so there really wasn't anything that needed changing

Loved her in this issue :)

Looking forward to seeing more of her just a shame we have to wait until October to see what happens next :csad:

DCU version of Batwoman really wouldn't fit in the world of the Adam West Batman series in the first place. So I really don't find any validity in your criticism.
