Yep I think he's going to be an ally for Batman not an enemy trying to stop his even crazier daughter

That and he's going to be made irrelevant by the younger generation like Magneto in New X-Men. Old men super villains usually get a raw deal in Morrison's stories.

I just hope Talia gets a better one than she did last time

She was too one dimensional in Batman and Batman & Robin

I think Papa al Ghul is going to get the Magneto end of the stick when he shows up in INC.

I don't want the comic to end with pointless death that everyone knows won't last. I finished Astonishing X-Men Omnibus yesterday and i facepalmed how Whedon just HAD to end his run with a ******** death that noone would take seriously.

Well Kitty wasn't really dead just trapped in a magic space bullet

Magneto rescued her :)

If I had a nickel for every time I got stuck in a magic space bullet...

It's always such an annoyance :o

Did a helpful mutant supervillain rescue you CConn

Nope.

Ted Nugent needed ammo for his shotgun.

I like Whedon's ending. Of course nobody took the death seriously. Nobody takes any comic book death seriously. But it was written well and provided a dynamic change.

So I've decided to read whats considered the best Batman stories this year. I've started with Knightfall and just finished Book One about to start Book Two. Just wondering what I should start looking out for? I realise that I should probably have asked this before I started and done it in chronological order, but I've started now.

Knightfall, Contagion, Legacy, Cataclysm, No Man's Land, Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive.

They all follow one another in that order. The 90s/early 2000s were a good time for Batman.

Good luck finding Catagion and Legacy, though.

are they out of print? I've had my copies for years. DC sucks at printing trades.

Long Halloween and Dark Victory aren't half bad either

Also the entirety of Gotham Central which is one of the best comic books ever

definitely check out Gotham Central. They're even collected in neat and nifty hardback collections that look awesome, and are pretty new so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.

I'd rather avoid HC versions. I know they look REALLY good on a shelf, but I just can't justify the price of them.

I'll check out the other stuff you guys suggested though. Looking forward to a year of Batman goodness

yeah, I only buy hardcovers either at a Halfprice Books or through amazon. you can get some really cheap hardcovers. Cheaper than a new paperback, usually. And they do look so much better.

I'd recomend Year One, Shaman, Hush, Gothic, Batman & Son, The Black Glove, The Man who Laughs, Mad Love and The Killing Joke.

Batman is very good with collected tpbs as many of his greatest stories have been colected, i don't buy HCs, the ones i suggested are widelly available as TPBs, if you don't mind old comics then i'dd also recomend the Batman Chronicles volumes, they collect Batman's first stories in chronological order.

I might have a look around and see if there's a decent priced copy going anywhere.

The only HC's I have are the Dark Tower stuff from Marvel, Watchmen and IDW's TMNT Ultimate Collection. They look so nice... I really want the Preacher HC's but there's no way I can afford those...

Gotham Central is available in trades too if their too pricey though it might be harder to find the trades

definitely check out Gotham Central. They're even collected in neat and nifty hardback collections that look awesome, and are pretty new so you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.

I picked up the complete set as I wanted the whole series in collected form on my bookshelf.

Fab stuff and its still one of my absolute favourite comic books. Second only to Batwoman in my top five favourite comic books of all time :hrt:

yeah, I bought the first two paperbacks like a month before the hardbacks started coming out. I was pissed. So I stopped buying the paperbacks and started waiting for the hardcovers. It looks funky on my shelf, but eventually i plan on trading in my paperbacks for the hardback edition.

Though on the bright side the trade of Half a Life collects some stories that give backstory for Renee including the first hints that she's a lesbian and the moment where Two Face gets obsessed with her

And both stories are by Greg Rucka so there's added Rucka goodness

With all these Batman titles i wish in least one was about his early adventures, like Year One stories, Legends of the Dark Knight, and Batman confidential.

A Legends of the Dark Knight sort of comic book would be neat that series was pretty good
