Isn't Detective supposed to be about his early years?

Nope, Action Comics is closer to that as it's first 7 issues take place during superman's early years but after that will go back to the present with some flashbacks. I've been reading some early Legends of the Dark Knight comics and they were trully great, i wish they did something like that again, like the years Batman has been active before Superman and te Justice League appeared.

I kinda wanna see a new origin and stories with Dick, Jay and Tim. I'd prefer that if they are gonna do a "Before Batman" book.

Dave Mazzucchelli advices people to NOT buy the new Batman: Year One Deluxe Edition:
DC just sent me this book last week, and I really hope people don’t buy it. I didn’t even know they were making it, and I don’t understand why they thought it was necessary — several years ago, DC asked me if I’d help put together a deluxe edition ofBatman: Year One, and Dale Crain and I worked for months to try to make a definitive version. Now whoever’s in charge has thrown all that work in the garbage. First, they redesigned the cover, and recolored my artwork — probably to look more like their little DVD that came out last year; second, they printed the book on shiny paper, which was never a part of the original design, all the way back to the first hardcover in 1988; third — and worst — they printed the color from corrupted, out-of-focus digital files, completely obscuring all of Richmond’s hand-painted work. Anybody who’s already paid for this should send it back to DC and demand a refund.

Aaaand Amazon order canceled!

The Hardcover from 2-4 years ago is the most definitive version. with those awesome sketches and script pages. Why even re-release it again?

Truth

New issue of Detective Comics out this week. Place your bets which character will have an evil relative this issue

I'm hoping that Alfred is revealed to have an evil twin. He makes bad cups of tea and dyes Batman's costume pink before shrinking his tights in the wash :o

So I've decided to read whats considered the best Batman stories this year. I've started with Knightfall and just finished Book One about to start Book Two. Just wondering what I should start looking out for? I realise that I should probably have asked this before I started and done it in chronological order, but I've started now.

Just read "The Black Mirror" recently. It was really good. Its a Dick Grayson Batman story, but one of the better graphic novels I've read.

I'd recommend Year One, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Hush, Under the Red Hood, Knightfall, Cataclysm/ No Man's Land, Azzarello's Joker, Morrison's Batman & Robin Trilogy, The Black Mirror, The Dark Knight Returns, and Year 100.

Also, read Nine Lives. Its an elseworlds Batman story ... but a really good one. I liked All-Star Batman & Robin, but I think I'm in the minority on that one. Arkham Reborn wasn't bad ... though its more of a Jeremiah Arkham story than a Batman one (I think Bruce Wayne is actually played by Thomas Elliot throughout that book, and Batman is Grayson).

I wasn't going to buy it anyway cause all I need is the story. I've had this version

since 1990. Original coloring and all :) It was the first "graphic novel" I ever bought as before that I only ever bought floppies and not collections. It's still in one piece to this very day. The only "deluxe" or "absolute" anything I would buy from DC is Gaiman's Sandman and that's only because I never bought trades. I owned most of the second half of that series in floppy form before I sold them all. So it will be great to have it all including the stuff I never owned in one piece.

i despise it when they re-color books. i want to buy those neal adams batman collections, but they just look awful to me with all the re-coloring.

Those first few arcs like Shaman, Gothic and Faces were pretty damn good and at times great. Also loved the one with the Cavalier by James Robinson. I liked a lot of early LotDK because it explored Batman's past and early post-crisis adventures. For someone like me who had been introduced to the character shortly before that series' publication (1987) it was just what was needed.

Then the series started to steer away from that and went a little Elseworlds sometimes so it wasn't the same though at times still a good read. They tried bringing back that original LotDK format with Batman: Confidential but it just wasn't as good at all.

Then that book got replaced by The Dark Knight and that title in no way strives for that goal nor is what it's actually doing entertaining in any way. In the end it was like going from a Burger King burger to a White Castle. Either way you're in for ****.

I miss Shadow Of The Bat. That was one great, sometimes odd, series.

That was good stuff I loved how Alan Grant wrote Batman's rogues

Speaking of anthologies, I hear DC is planning a new Batman: Black and White series. Which could potentially be :awesome:

Will it be like a full blown collection released all at once with new material? or would it be like the original and contained as back up within an already existing title? if it's the latter then I hope it's in one of the batbooks that I actually read.

I'm not sure of the specifics, just that DC was putting it together again. I would imagine that they'd use it as a back up though, if only to rake in the extra $

Outstanding :awesome:

I knew Tony Daniels wouldn't dissapoint. Do we get any dialogue as gloriously awful as 'Someone was having a bath. A blood bath' like in the last issue

This is definitely good news I cannot wait to check this out :atp:

Basically Tony Daniel should take up a career writing for Steven Seagal Movies

I'm not going to lie I would probably totally watch those :o

Steven Seagal could be Batman. If Batman were overweight and wore a pony tail.
