Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Thanks for the votes guys... much appreciated. You don't have to know why you voted... it's just important that you do.

Come on W, Hippy, Zoken, Hellstormer, and the rest. Please vote and support your fellow COM man. :)
I tohught I already voted, I could've recalled voting yesterday

Well, voting just started today, so I doubt it. But we're looking good in the polls so we should be fine. Thanks to all that helped.

So now after promoting in thread after thread, and sending 140 PM's asking for votes (and it seems to be paying off)... I'm going to try to get my COM voting in.

Harlekin told me about this Contest of Marvels thing, how can I be a part of it?

Sadly, this isn't one of the types of games where you can just jump in and play. I wish I could have made it so, but with the way the game is it just doesn't work that way. The game takes several months to play (I think season 1 was 7 months or so) and we're nearly half way through this season. I'll talk to Phaed (my co-host) and see if we can arrange anything though. We may be able to pull a few strings, but don't hold your breath on it :)

Actually, I have an idea that might work, but I want to run it by Phaed first and see what he thinks. Stay tuned.

What about all those people that never debate?

You may not be able to participate in any battle, prime, but we're more than happy to have you as a voter. And we could always use knowledgable people to answer questions.

And, if you participate now, you can count yourself in as a player for next season (if JH's plan doesn't pan out first).

Yeah, I expected either to wait til the season is over or wait until somebody drops, etc, add me to the list if there is one. Work is allowing me to put more time into things like this, and I miss the DTL!

In fact you have all but one character in this thing from my last existing DTL roster, The Ghost, Will O' the Wisp, The Answer and Basilisk, but you don't have Nebulon, WHY!?! He's so freakin' badass! I mean look at the long flowing hair and the sparkles!!

It's similar to this game. It's a team of five against a team of five in a location with 24 hours of prep-time. One match each week (writeups due over the weekend, voting over the weekdays). It lasts for four or five months, depending on the number of teams.

Some owners prefer to do simple breakdown's of battles with a little prep-time discussion. Others like to longer writeups over a couple of posts and sort of tell a story.

I'll dig up links to old seasons so you can check them out.

I'd say more time consuming, at least if you do it right. On here you can spend a couple hours a week and be fine. Over in DTL I was spending a good 10 hours a week (between researching character, planning up strategies to win the maches, writing the actual write up, reading and debating and defending my opponants write up against mine, then reading everyone elses huge write ups and debates so that I may vote accurately). It was tons of fun and you really get to know a lot of cool characters, but it's just a LOT of work and time. I only played the first two seasons, but I'm assuming things didn't lighten up during the last two.

Oh... and the template of the Contest Of Marvels was borrowed and varied from the template of the DTL.

Thanks. We had an awsome team effort pulling people from every where voting for us. I spent four hours watching the front page and PMing everyone that was on at a time. I think I sent about 150 PM's, and I know Kipobe sent about 100 out, as well as going out and finding former posters of the hype on other sites to bring them back and vote. It was a lot of fun, but I never want to do it again. So don't run for president.

I did get mad though because I wanted to finish this chapter of my book I'm working on since yesterday, and I'm about to go to bed and it's still not done. I have about 3 or 4 pages left to write, which shouldn't take long, but I don't have time to do it now.... and tomorrow starts a 9 day work stretch

I like the idea of having one match a week (rather than anything from 0-6) and I always preferred team battles to solo. I'll bet the actual write up would take a lot more effort than the minimum here with so many more characters to consider. I want to take part in all these things but there's really not enough time :csad:

Pronbably not too realistic but I wouldn't mind being a back up for people who can't do a write up in a certain week or something along those lines.

You had me convinced JH (I was going to vote the other way) but I missed the cut. :(

In such situations, we do allow people to team up (split up writing, or take turns each week).

In that case there's a good chance I would be interested. Keep me informed when things are starting up.

I loved the DTL. I hated when I had to leave, and even more when I tried to join during season 4 only to quit again. I loved making my team and such. I still see characters and think (if I ever do the DTL again, I'm totally picking this person up).

I hate missing stuff. I wouldn't mind doing half a COM III & half a DTL if it was possible... and if I could find willing partners.

We allow someone to do half CoM. You basically get half the line up you'd normally get (that way you have half the matches). The bad part though is that you aren't eligable for prizes (as your percentages would be differant). If you can get a partner in the DTL to work with, you could make it happen.

I'm assuming W's going to start up another version soon?
