Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Human Torhc vs. Gravity will be interesting. It'll probaly come down to expirience.

Ok, everyone can start early if they choose. It's pouring rain here, and I was just hoping power stays on until I could finish. I was imagining being near the end and the lights going out before I could post what I was doing.

I'm pretty sure my loss column will raise next week. I've been pretty lucky, but most of my five matches will be quite the battle. I think I'll be very happy that the next week will be a week off.

(Plus, you gotta watch what you say. Hippy said last week he couldn't get out of second place....)

Oops... another one. THIS is the Harvest that we have in the tourney... from the Phalanx Covenant.

Harvest is changed. If you are able to paste the picture in this thread, I'd appreciate it.

Can you use it if I take it right from mutanthigh, or should I save it on my photobucket?

And Foundry also...

Dang, I can't copy and paste in edit mode. I'll make changes at home with those pictures later, if I have lights.

Thanks, JH

Ok, I get to go home in 15 minutes. Most of this town I work in is without power, and I guess it's crazy on the roads. I just heard that my son's school is already cancelled for tomorrow. Like I said, watch the football game tonight if you can, and you should have some nice visuals, hopefully.

I got four of my five debates out. Just one more to go, but Powderman is my opponent; so, I don't have to worry about him being upset if I don't get it up right away.

See you guys later,

Phaed

and remember, women and children first! If they get taken out by whirling debris then you know it's not safe to leave the house :cwink:

What happened to Hippy? Did he lose a load of matches this week?

Least you're higher then me I have the worst loss record. But it all comes down to who you have left.;)

POWERS BACK!!!

at least here at home. Last night, right before the 49ers took the lead, the power went out. I got everything ready at home, went out to the car to check on the game, and in those few minutes I was away, the game spiraled out of control.

It was a cold night, and then my daughter and I went to work, where it was without power all day, too. In fact, the entire city was without power most of the day.

Luckily, house lights came on around 1:00 pm here. We live less than a mile from a nursing home; so, our power is priority, thank God.

Now, I'm going to watch Surviror from last night on Intertube. Hope you all had a better day than me. This week is the week to finish purchasing Christmas Gifts, too.

um... I guess I should ask for absolution from Phaed and Weig... I kinda went on a rant on Ahura in our Tasky Vs. Pluto fight.

I was about to write in here that I am willing to leave this contest if people wish due to something somebody said.

Now I just have seen the post above so Zoken, if you are willing to apologise to me, I do not see why we would need to involve anyone else.

By the way, my post in the debate thread was written before I read this one.

I'm not going to apologize to you. I was apologizing to them because I took up space in that thread having to explain to you that you are annoying me. now quit being a drama queen and understand that I just want you to ease up a bit, especially in a match like that one where it is clear that you win.

All I would say is if you wanted to make personal attacks do it by PM and I think we can leave it at that.

Good luck witheverything

Exactly it was the same in the speed vs Jim Hammond match. You take it too personally and resort to insults rather than debating. He's not saying don't defend your character, just don't start attacking other posters because you disagree with them

Ok, I haven't read the debate yet; but, I'll touch on the subject.

It's real easy to take a debate and have it start to become personal. At times, you have to step back and take a breather. Even us experienced guys have it happen, as with me and JH during our heated Mercury vs. Dead Girl match. In that, we both agreed we needed a day away to collect our thoughts. After that, we were able to resume and have a good debate.

The important thing to try to do with every single debate you have is make sure you are attacking the character, not the participant. It's hard, but I check myself every rebuttal when I start to say stuff like, "Harlekin thinks" or "you say" statements. Keep it in terms of your characters, and it will go more smoothly. I'll give an example: "My opponent tries to make everyone believe that in some crazy ridiculous world that Mercury could actually beat Dead Girl, and his reasoning is completely stupid." That's a very personal attack. It would be better just to say why I don't think Mercury would be able to slaughter Dead Girl and keep out the words, like "my opponent" or "stupid."

It takes time, and feathers will be ruffled in this game. Later I'll look at the debate and try to see what everyone's talking about.

Ok, I'm looking at the match, and I'm going to give some examples of how to better phrase certain sentences. (I hope you guys don't mind me using your match as an example.)

So you claim that a Human will try and tire an Immortal Olympian God.....hmm seems unlikely at best to me.

Like I said, there is a "you" statement in this that attacks the participant more than the character. All that needs to be said is something like, "The ability to tire an Immortal Olympian God is really almost impossible. Pluto has fought _____ for days, and never tired."

Actually make it, he would lose 100/100. I have been pretty fair in my debates and I say when I think I am beaten. I am surprised you feel you can actually win this match.

Now, before anyone posts anything like this, I would ask for that contestant to step back, breath, and think things through. Everyone in the Marvel Universe has a chance of beating another character. Even if we put Beak up against Hyperion, he might come up with a plan, no matter how unlikely. And, everyone needs to feel that they can come up with something to beat another character. I think I speak for most of us when I say that I'd rather see an argument of how you could do something than just conceeding a match. Basically, this is a pure personal attack, and has nothing to do with the match. (I will say pretty much all of us at some point will do this. I did it in Season 1, and you really just have to re-read and make sure you don't fall into this trap.) Everything after this statement is fine, though. Just this one statement should have been taken out. The rest clearly refutes Zoken's claims in a nice way.

Then, I see we get the entire match going in a direction we really don't want it to go. It just takes the slightest thing to set someone off. (I could show more examples, but it's clear it's just turned into a pissing match at this point.)

I can see that even if you know your character can totally annihilate another character, you can never be sure how the votes will go. So, yes, you have to defend yourself constantly. But, the personal attacks should never happen, and in return, retaliating shouldn't go on either. If you guys have a problem, just PM JH or me. We'll respond and take care of the problem in the best manner possible. Heck, I PMed JH all last night coming up with how to best handle two matters concerning two of my characters this week.

Basically, it's a good time to step away from the match for a day. Zoken should feel free to come up with any new plans to beat Pluto ... and Ahura should definitely respond that he doesn't believe Tasky stands a snowball chance in hell in beating Pluto. But, that's as far as it should go.

Again, I'll point out that I almost fall into the same trap every week. There were moments I was attacking JH more than the character in initial write-ups to our previous match, and I'm sure he did or felt like doing the same to me. But, with mutual respect, we both realized that we are just passionate about the game and our characters, and it doesn't reflect on how we are as people. I say think the same thing about each other. (I know, it will be tough...especially with the statements already made. But, this is the Christmas season, and regardless of your beliefs, our ability to forgive is the greatest gift we can give.)

Hey Phaed, good leading!

And about our Harvest VS Kid Omega match, I hope you didn't think I was upset or anything about whether or not Kid Omega could use the X-Men's computers. It really doesn't matter to me either way, especially in this match where as I agree with you that the Phalanx is probably well known. (I am not saying Kid Omega would win though, lol):xmen:

I will apologise for those statements but i never intended them to be anything personal.

I was using sarcasm to underly an argument which is something I often do. It is never meant as a PERSONAL attack.

And the 100/100 argument which was referring to the 99/100 is nothing but a discussion on how I feel that battle would go. I did not realise that was taken as a personal insult.

I am going to rant on for one second here and be a bit personal. I work in finance and currently, I am a fund manager. My fund manages approximately 2 billion in assets. I am used to negotiating deals over a 100 million. I am not saying this to make myself important, which I am not, I am stating this because if you guys take what I write in these forums as personal, I warn you to be very careful when and if you step into a negotiation involving large sums of money surrounded by lawyers. Negotiations can last for hours and voices will often get raised. It is never personal but it can feel like it at times. Just remember it is always a game, that is all a negotiation or debate is. Just a bit of advice, ignore it if you wish.
