Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Has Powder had any characters advance thus far?

Annoying Silence/Powderman has had 2 characters advance so far. (Just don't ask me which ones.) If their characters got debated, I would venture a guess they would probably at least have around 7 character still in the contest. There have been a few with the right debate I could see advancing quite easily.

I've just posted a recent debate so maybe ky and Hellstormer might want a bit more time than usual. (I won't be responding anymore).

See you later guys. :yay:

Just curious how many characters we're divying up after round 1 is over. How long has it been since Trigger's been around?

I have officially declaired myself nerdy. Why? Because I have officially made Wierd Al a friend of mine on myspace (yeah, not that means anything)... but anyhow... he is now on my friends list. And I left a message asking if he wanted to marry my now single mother so he can be my dad. I am nerdy... white... and nerdy!

Hey, does anybody have a good link to a profile of Whither?

And can I use an aging power to cause the breakdown of molecular links between atoms?

Here's a bio for Wither

I'm not sure on your question however. Just read up on Wither and use your best judgement. As long as it's within the confines of his powers and in character, anything's worth a shot.

Ok well the first line of the bio eliminates that strategy.....hmmmm I will see if I can come up with anything remotely intelligent that cannot be refuted with ease but at the moment nothing comes to mind.

Do we know the location of the battle? Like a desert ;)

The next location (after our bye week) starting Dec. 29th, is:

Ego, the Living Planet:

Known Superhuman Powers: The living planet Ego has been called a "bioverse." Every part of its substance, including its atmosphere, is "alive" inasmuch as it is animated and controlled by the consciousness of Ego. The exact composition of Ego is unknown, but much of the planet's surface, at least, seems to be composed of organic molecules. The planet possesses various internal features which have analogues to parts of living Earth-based organisms. For example, its interior contains tunnels which have been compared to arteries, and the center of Ego's consciousness resides in a brain-like organ deep below its surface. Ego can absorb humanoid-sized living beings into itself and "digest" them in internal areas similar to an Earth beings stomach, using its own analogues to digestive fluids. Just as an Earth organism creates one-celled antibodies to attack foreign substances in its bloodstream, Ego creates humanoid sized anti-body like beings from itself to attack intruders on or beneath its surface. In its encounters with humanoids, Ego has caused the "antibodies" to take semi humanoid form.
Ego generates vast psionic energies which, at their peak, rival those of Galactus. If Ego depletes its energy below a level that it can replenish by itself, it can help renew its energy stories by tapping outside sources, like stars, or absorbing the life forces of large numbers of living beings. At full strength Ego can use its psionic energy to obliterate starships. Ego can also control its own substance psychically. Thus Ego can transform its own surface to resemble a gigantic face, to reach out into space with gigantic tendrils, or to become an idyllic world resembling the most beautiful areas of Earth. Ego can create humanoid beings with great powers out of its own surface and, it claims, command them across interstellar distances. Ego communicates with other beings telepathically.
Ego has used Its great psionic powers to command the immensely powerful sidereal propulsion unit installed at its south pole by Galactus. The unit can propel Ego in and out of hyperspace at vast speeds, and apparently has virtually inexhaustible power.
Limitations: For unknown reasons, Ego is apparently unable to remove the sidereal propulsion unit embedded in its south pole.
Ego's control over its own atmosphere is apparently no match for the power that the thunder god Thor can wield over it using the mystical powers of his enchanted hammer.

(There are lots of websites devoted to Ego. For this battle, Ego will not get involved UNLESS you do something to him to cause him pain. For example, if my character, Terrax, was in this battle, he would have tried to use the planet as a source for fighting War Machine. The problem would have been that Terrax would then be fighting War Machine AND Ego. So, take this into consideration of your character's actions.)

Since we've had some late debates, debating will continue until 12:00 PST. That gives everyone about 3 1/2 hours left to say what they have to say.

Finally, we've had three new explanation of rules determined by JH and myself.

1) Editting of posts should be for certain situations where there is only a foul up. (For example, I've done this twice. Once was when we were debating the incorrect character, Breakdown. The second time was when a rule was debated, and after a ruling, we made necessary changes to our previous debates after we received clarification.) Voters need to read the whole battle as a train of thought, and to add something a participant thinks of later to a pervious post isn't fair. If you think that editting of a post is needed, you must inform your opponent of the change. If either of you have questions about whether the change should be allowed, PM either JH or me.

2) After voting began, I've been noticing an increase in people using their votes to make a final comment about their characters and why they should win. To me, this hasn't been a big problem all season; but, it rings too much of trying to get in the last word, and we know people look at opinions in voting. So, for clarification, if it's your character, you are allowed only to make a vote; additional comments of a sentence or two are for the other voters to make. (The only time I've allowed anything different is if someone never put up a debate. I did allow DarkHellRider to make a two sentence reason for why his character would win a match. If this happens, you must get contact JH or me via PM before you do it.)

3) Finally, I believe I already mentioned this; but, in case I didn't, I'm going to possibly repeat myself. To be eligible for prizes (whether it's best or worst record), you must definitely partipate more than you don't participate. JH and I have discussed this, and feel that 80% participation isn't too hard to achieve. People with good records generally always participate, as you'll notice; so, this more applies to those who might be in contention for "worst record" at the end of Round 1 and the end of Round 2. Of course, Powderman has let us know he's not interested in participating this season, so his "worst record" at the end of Round 1 won't garner him a prize. I believe Trigger has already excluded herself from that prize, too. (I know she's busy with schooling.) If Trigger wishes to continue and schooling becomes a bit easier, then she would be eligible for prizes starting with Round 2.

Phadrus, I sent you my battle by PM .........*eventhough it sucks*

Yep, I got it. Thanks, and I will post it next week on the 29th after battles get posted. BTW, when are you due back?

Little over a half hour left to debate. I'm going to lunch.

BTW, thanks to hippy for finding me a copy of Magician Apprentice #3.

Just so people know, I got a last minute request for a rebuttal. I'm going to allow it; but, I'm also giving Hippy enough time to respond. Voting will start in an hour.

I am back on the 2nd

Voting May Begin!!!

(Remember, you must read through all of this weeks debates before voting. The debates should be the largest percentage of reason for the way you vote; but, they do not have to be the sole reason for your decision.)

Hey Phaed, in case you want to change your posts, you forgot to remind everyone to read everything and then vote (I just thought of this when I saw that Iceman/Psylocke had the links to the tournament in his signature)

How come everyone I face always waits a while to put up a debate then starts debating and then puts one up at like midnight so I can't make a rebuttal? I feel so ripped-off :(

Well, Iceman Psylocke did the same thing to me this week, so I am sure it wasn't intentional to either of us. I/P was probably busy and just couldn't get the debates up sooner.

Thanks. I editted it, and just need to find a better way to say it in the future.

can I make a suggestion?

I think we should keep this thread open even after the contest is done. It would be good to just have a thread to shoot the **** in even without the contest being on. It'd be the club for special people! :yay:

We always have a discussion thread open...but, what will happen is that it will evolve into the "Contest of Marvels III Discussion thread," where we will go over which rules to adjust for the new season and which new characters and locations to include, and which we should eliminate. After that, it will become the "Official CoM II Discussion thread," where all the new recruits and old members will do exactly what we've done from day 1 of this thread.

Time to go home. Feel free to tally votes later, Hippy.
