Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Another point to clarify: I'm getting brackets ready right now, and I think we determined that Juggernaut would be the old version with the gem, right? I know this is villian version, but I just want to make sure that includes Gem and all.

I think he had the gem last season. Wasn't there a big argument about being able to pull the gem out of his body? And we determined that you couldn't because it's not really in his body and the whole issue about Onslaught doing it was bogus writing.

Or was that the DTL?

I have an interesting match this week, it may come down to the environment.

Hey guys something came up so I might not be able to be as frequent in my openings and rebuttals.

There are 5 different Marvel versions of Basilisk: Arch Demon, Hellbent Member, Mutant killed by Xorn, Robot who fought Power Pack and Cloak and Dagger, and Wayne Gifford who fought Morbius. If JH or Wiegeabo can remember which version we wanted, it would help. I looked under character list, and it doesn't help me. He's under Miscellaneous Characters.

I'm pretty sure that this was the mutant killed by Xorn.

And Juggernaut is with the gem. I remember being cautious but going along with it anyhow. However, I think we do need to clarify a stopping point with him, as we simply said villain Juggernaut. I think the best time frame to judge him would be Pre-AoA, so that all the Onslaught stuff can be gone and he has a clear mind and still have the gem. It also gets rid of the All New Exiles stuff where his heroic side really started to show. He had some conscience, but overall, he was a baddie.

LOCATION: ASTEROID M

Asteroid M has been destroyed and reconstructed by the Master of Magnetism many times. All of them had several levels, including an observation deck, hangar bays and medical facilities. The various facilities had technology that kept it concealed from standard detection technology. They were all positioned in stationary orbit probably over Anya's grave (the deceased eldest child of Magneto).

Third version

It was during his brief association with the Hellfire Club, that Magneto rebuilt a fancier version of Asteroid M. Magneto wanted a contingency plan, if things didn't work out with the Hellfire Club. Therefore, he proceeded to rebuild his base of operations, to survey the Earth, from high above. From there, he heard of Scarlet Witch's troubles. He went down to Earth, to bring her back to his space station. This version was first seen in Avengers: West Coast #57 (April 1990).
When the West Coast Avengers attacked Asteroid M, we learn that Magneto has service robots on the station. The service robots were instrumental in alerting Magneto to the presence of Wasp, on his base. For obvious reasons, his entire asteroid isn't made out of metallic objects. Quicksilver demonstrated this when he ripped out plastic tubing out of one the consoles.
Afterwards events involving Zaladane, in the Savage Land, Magneto returned to Asteroid M, to live in peace. His peace didn't last that long, when Acolytes, led originally by Fabian Cortez, requested and were granted sanctuary by Magneto from American soldiers that were chasing them, on Asteroid M.
In X-Men (Second series) #1 (October 1991), it was stated that the asteroid was in synchronous orbit and 250 kilometers above the Earth (synchronous orbit is actually much farther from Earth than this; in all likelihood it was being magnetically levitated at that altitude). The asteroid also has selective inhibitor fields, that may keep mutants or superhumans from using their powers. This version of the asteroid has medical & science facilities, an observation deck, sleeping quarters, and a swimming pool.
Asteroid M was destroyed for the final time in X-Men (Second series) #3 (December 1991). From an escape pod, Cortez set off nuclear missiles that were around the asteroid. Although Magneto survived the re-entry of Asteroid M to Earth, the rest of the original Acolytes did not. The remains of the Asteroid M crashed into the Middle East. Forge, Henry Peter Gyrich, and other government officials, inspected the wreckage in Uncanny X-Men #299 (April 1993).

Ok, I think everything is ok to go. If I messed up, just let me know. Right now, my daughter is with me at work again, and it's her turn to use the computer and play Barbie Rapunzel. Fun, fun, fun.

That's funny. Mimic fought Spider-Man in the first round last season. And now he's fighting Spider-girl in the first round.

And, Spider-Man's fighting this week, too. Maybe he can give Spider-Girl some pointers.

I finally got around to making some brackets. Here's the first two. It takes about an hour to do one, so they'll be slow in coming, basically whenever I get time. So here's the first two updated though...

EDIT>>>> And those aren't working right. I'll have to get back with you.

Sweet. Thanks alot for doing those.

Ok I have a question my opening debate for Mimic in thread 1 I did some pretty out of the box thing that I don't think is against the rules but you never know.

Well, the first problem I see is that this version of Mimic can only hold onto the powers of five people at a time. You're using more than that.

The bigger problem I see is that your not allowed to use people as a resource during prep-time, for information or otherwise. So I don't even think Mimic could copy the powers of anyone else and would have to use his set of base powers.

Now, you might have some room in selecting the set of base powers. Rather than having to use the last set he had in the comics, you may be able to choose another set of base powers that he used (I can think of at least three sets).

I actually agree with W for the most part. Going from world to world and copying powers is using them for a resource, which is against the rules. Not a bad idea, but against established rules.

The only part of W's that I disagree with is the options of powers. Our stance was to take the most recent version of a character, and that goes for Mimic as well. If I'm not mistaken, his most recent version has the following powers:

Colossus' armor
Deadpool's healing factor
Wolverine's bone claws (even during colossus armor, they're still bone)
Northstar's flight and speed
Cyclops' optic blast

That may not be the Mimic that you made, but that's still a heck of a powers list. And though I think "World Tour" was still going on when we started this tourney, he got that list of powers the issue before World Tour began, so they're still good.

You know, this reminds me of when AnnoyingSilence first joined the DTL. He came in with this great idea of making Mimic the unbeatable character. In his first battle he had Mimic copy the powers of Multiple Man, Blackbolt, and some others. He then had Mimic create 100 copies of himself, fly into space, and they all screamed with Blackbolt's voice simoultaneously, destroying the planet and winning the match.

He ended up losing horribly due to Mimic acting out of character, but points go for creativity :)

I have a question regarding Cable - what is the extent of his powers?

Are we talking X-man or Cable with weapons and light telepathy?

I just looked over my remaining matches. Besides this week's matches, I've got left:
Damien Hellstrom (Me) vs Namor ('Phere)
Black Widow (Hippy) vs Georgeous George (Me)
Moonstone (Me) vs Bishop (JH)

Cable is telepath, but not his Burnt Offering level. The best time frame to picture him from is maybe around the TWELVE storyline or so. He basically still has his TO virus and is a powerful telepath, but not all powerful yet.

Oh... and to those who like buying comics.... a shameful plug.

My Stuff

Damn, I wanted to make Mimic a TK god. :(, I feel ripped off after planning for so long.

Actually you weren't reading very carefully. I used five that last one I switched then switched aqain.

Thanks for trying to do these. I've been wanting to see them for a while.

I feel your pain.

Some of the potentially uber characters have damn rules in the way (or are lower power versions than expected when submitting lists) stopping them from being able to do what we want them to be able to do. :cmad: Rules are rules though. :csad:
