Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Random draw, you think you've got it bad. I/P GOT HIS ASS HANDED TO HIM (;)) in the moondragon vs vengeance fight. It's just the nature of a random draw I'm afraid :(
I'll soon catch you now that you're plummeting through the rankings. :yay: You've actually lost more matches than me even though I've used up most of my ****ty characters.:csad:

What book is this?

I'm writing a fantasy novel (a trilogy actually). I'm somewhere around 650 pages into the first book and winding down to the final battle. It'll probably be somewhere around 800 pages. All the things that's been building all book are coming to a head, so it's exciting!

Oh wow! I'd love to read it at some point if possible. Are you going to try and get it published once it's finished?

btw I've tried my hand at the same thing (got through 4 chapters out of 12 although I'm only aiming for 100,000 or so words (per book). I'm way too busy to do anything on it at the moment though. :csad:

I'm picky on who I let read it. I don't mind but I require a lot back in return and it'd take a lot of time. Basically, I expect quick reading of it and a very indepth analysis of each chapter. I taught myself how to write on this book in that fashion so if I let someone read it, it's to help further my own abilities and see where I mess up and where I can still grow... etc.

And yeah, I'm planning on trying to get it published. I'm not holding my breath, but everyone whose read it says it's good enough to be published. Midnight Ice has read most of it and seems to like it. Twilight's read a good portion of it and seemed to like what she read as well. My mom, grandmother, and former boss are my main readers though and they're all enamored by it. So so far I have good reviews.

But yeah, if you're willing to take the time to read it quickly and cratique each chapter in detail and discuss minor insignifigant things about it with me, I'm more than willing to let you read it.

I'll PM

I'd be interested too. But not right now. Probably in a couple of months if it's ok.

I would be interested as well...

It's great to see everyone back!!!

I'd say I'd love to read your book, too, JH; but, sometimes I really suck at finishing things, especially novels. I still have to finish the last Harry Potter book and the final Dark Tower book. You can be sure, though, that when it gets released, I'll definitely pick it up.

Anyway, what a great weekend. The Seahawk game on Saturday was absolutely one of my favorite I've ever seen. Even if the Seahawks get eliminated next week, they've already done what I wanted to see most of all. Eliminating the Dallas Cowboys, and especially Terrell Owens, from the playoffs might have been just as good as seeing them go to the Superbowl again. Thankfully, they don't have to play the Saints next week. Maybe they can exact a little revenge on Rex Grossman...although, it's going to be tough, with all their injuries.

I'm conflicted with the Seahawks this postseason. While I have a certain amount of angst towards them for beating my Rams twice (even though they were both absolutely fabulous games) that almost makes me want to root for them to win the Superbowl so I can say "well damn, teh Rams should have beaten the Superbowl champs at least once."

Either way, I will be rooting for Seattle over Chicago since I live in Chicaog now, but can't stand the Bears/Rex Grossman.

Hey guys... interupting this regular COM program for a minute for a request. As some of you know, I am currently in the new season of Hype Survivor. The newest challenge is rather interesting. There are two tribes, and each tribe picks two people, and those people must run for Superherohype President and Vice President. We have until Wednesday the 10th to campain before the poll goes up over in Community. My tribe's name is called "All The King's Men" and our candidates are Kipobe for President and Darren Daring for Vice President (who is a semi-faithful voter here at the CoM).

My request is that us Contest of Marvels Alumni stick together (unless Darthphere's bitter toward his being voted out and tries to rally against us... then don't listen to him). I ask my fellow CoM'ers to spread the word. Vote for Kipobe and Darren Daring on Wednesday January 10th. I'll post the link to the poll as soon as I see it.

Thank you,
and we return you to your regularly schedual CoM

Since we've had a couple last minute debates, I'll keep debating open for about another 3 hours.

Debating Is Over!!!

Voting May Begin!!!

(Remember, you must read through all of this weeks debates before voting. The debates should be the largest percentage of reason for the way you vote; but, they do not have to be the sole reason for your decision.)

DAMNIT! I'm obviously gonna be tied with darth again :(

Looks like echo vs atlas is gonna decide it :word:

Okay guys... the Hype Survivor Presidential Elections Poll is up. If you could spare a moment, please go to the below link and vote for Kipobe and Daren Daring (as that's my tribe). Darthphere's in it too, but don't vote for him :) Hee Hee.

Hey guys... Come vote on the Hype Presidential Elections. If you don't know the candidates, then know that I, JewishHobbit, am a long time Marvel Forum poster, and I support Kipobe and Darren Daring (also a Marvels forum frequent). Vote for us (kipobe and Darren Daring) and help us win this election.

Vote Here

And I'll try to get my votes for the tourney in today sometime. I have a lot going on.

I went to the link, and it says I cannot vote in the poll. I wonder if it's because I'm following your link.

EDIT: Ok, I had to resign in when I followed your link. I've voted. Do I get a sticker???

I decided to get through some of my DC comics that had been building up over the last few months, and I read the following titles:

Blue Beetle 4-10
Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters 1-6
The Boys 1-5

First, I only got through issue #7 of the new Blue Beetle. The first few issues of this series were ok, but issues 4-7 were just awful. I can definitely take this title off my pull list. I couldn't bring myself to read the last three issues I bought. They've been bagged and put away.

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters was a comic I had purchased the first issue of; then, I decided to just drop it. I didn't think it looked very interesting, and I really didn't want to waste my time on it. (I didn't even get a chance to read the first issue.) By issue 4, I was reading a few people on the bought/thought thread who were highly recommending this title; so, my next visit to the comic shop, I picked up the missing issues. After reading all six issues released so far, I can be happy I did. It's definitely one of the best titles coming out of DC right now. I had read The Battle For Bludhaven, and wasn't too impressed. It seemed to have so much going on, so many characters interacting with each other, it was overkill for me. But, taking over where Bludhaven left off, this book connects on so many levels. You don't need to know who the characters are, and you don't even have to read Bludhaven to understand what's going on. I really hope this 8 issue miniseries gets another after they're done.

Finally, Hippy has been recommending The Boys to everyone and anyone. So, I went to my comic shop, and picked up the four issues that had already come out, and later I got issue #5. Last night, I read all five without stopping for a break. The first thing I noticed was the "mature readers" warning on the cover. This is definitely Mature with a Capital M. It makes The Punisher's Max title seem like it should be for kiddies. But, it's an excellent read. The only problem I had with this title is desperately wanting the next issue in my hand right now and not having to wait a month. Fantastic book.

So, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Definitely skip Blue Beetle, though; it's gotta be some of the worst crap DC is putting out.

Thanks for the votes guys... much appreciated. You don't have to know why you voted... it's just important that you do.

Come on W, Hippy, Zoken, Hellstormer, and the rest. Please vote and support your fellow COM man. :)
