Since the fitness thread is more about bodybuilding than anything else (which is cool), I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to a different aspect of fitness, running.

Anyone on the site runners or trying to get into running? Figure it'd be cool to hear other people stories, what races they're signed up for, the type of training they're doing, injuries they're dealing with.

I'll start off, I started running last summer and ran the Chicago Half marathon in the fall, did a few 8 and 10k's since then and started training for the Chicago Marathon this summer. Suffered a partially severed Achilles Tendon, due to someone leaving a broken liquor bottle in the middle of the grass, during a training run and missed most of my training. Started to take the first steps towards running again this week and plan to run the Turkey Trot 8k Thanksgiving Day, as my first real training run for a location to be determined Spring Marathon.

I used to run track in middle school and am still trying to beat my old personal mile record of 6:10. I'm assuming as creator of this thread you could help me with some breathing techniques to keep pace. Nice to see a thread about this instead of weightlifting people usually go places when they run.

Is it safe to assume you welcome non-distance running chatter also?

How far past middle school are you? I ran cross country in high school and I'm not even close to those times anymore, after 10 years not running, I'm not even trying. My best advice might be just trying speed workouts or running on a treadmill, where you can control your pace. I'm really bad at controlling my pace on regular runs.

Yeah, of course
