Official PlayStation Vita Thread

It hasnt been officially announced yet but everyone knows it exists. So far most info has gone intO the PSPGo or PSP phone thread, but it deserves its own. There's a Playstation meeting in a few days that allegedly will announce it. Time will tell if that happens.

Here's an article from IGN

Sony's PlayStation Portable successor hasn't been officially announced, but it's already looking like a beast of a system. Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper has some additional details today a few days ahead of a press conference that is expected to mark the system's official debut.

According to the paper, the PSP successor will have a 3G connection. In Japan, this will be provided by NTT DoCoMo.

The 3G connection will be used for online gaming and for downloading movies and games. Users will not be able to make phone calls.

Different from Wi-Fi, which requires hotspots, users will be able to access the 3G connection wherever DoCoMo cell phone service is available. This likely means a permanent connection throughout Japan, as DoCoMo is Japan's largest cell phone carrier. The system will also have WiFi support similar to the PSP, of course.

The paper did not say if users would incur a monthly charge for accessing DoCoMo's network. It also did not mention equivalent providers for overseas access.

Other bits mentioned in the Nikkei article include the inclusion of an OLED touch screen and a newly developed processor for outputting high end visuals.

The paper also has a few details on Sony's games-focused cell phone device. This will offer button controls, making games easier to play when compared to other smartphone devices. The set will use Google's Android operating system and will allow users to access non-game software.

Nikkei is usually a reliable source for early leaks. In fact, we're having a hard time recalling when the paper did not get early notice of an impending hardware announcement.

Except to hear more details on Sony's next generation PlayStation Portable at a press conference on the 27th (Japan time).

Ok. You may need to create an album then. Go to FB via PC. Click add Picture/Video, then Create New Album (I named mine Vita Album). Add a pic too it from your PC.

Now go to your FB app via Vita. Click on Photos and then the album you just created. On the top you will see Add Photo. Click it and your set.

Borrowed my Cousin's Unit 13 since his Ps Vita Broke :( and i must say its quite fun!

Sony needs to release more games like now i am so bored with my Vita. Mortal Kombat and Resistance are too far away for me! I also hope Sonyplans on adding more titles that are PSP compatible like Resistance Retribution Socom FTB3 and the Syphon Filter series. And i hope Sony expands PS MINIS so we can get Modern Combat and Nova 2

I used to enjoy Socom FTB3 but now it's littered with hackers. You can still find a good game every now and again but there's always someone freezing a room or doing that instant kill crap. It sucks, because the game is fun to play.

It'd be nice if developers that don't dwell within the fighting genre decided to port their games over to Vita.

Yeah, Sony needs to start churning out the games. I hope they pull a Nintebdo and out of no where start pushing games out the door. Holding up things on the Vita front get more interesting... Maybe they'll show us more at E3..

i'm heading to the states in september and was thinking of getting the wifi vita, but 2 questions

Resistance Burning Skies MP is a go.

When designing Resistance: Burning Skies, our goal was to bring a high-quality console experience to a handheld, and thanks to the power of the Vita, we’ve ended up with an unprecedented mobile FPS. Experience the dual analog sticks for precision aiming, touch screen interactivity for precise and quick secondary weapon fires, and portable online connectivity.
We’ve just showcased that game at an event in NYC, showing off some of the cool things we’re doing with online:

8 player multiplayer
– Small games feature intense 2 vs. 2 combat and large games going all the way up to 4 on 4 action. Choose between Quick Match: a fast and easy way to get up and playing immediately by jumping in an automatic matchmaking session or Party with Friends: use the Vita’s cross-game Party application and Party up with friends to join private matches and take advantage of Party with voice chat.

Rank Up! –
Killing enemies and winning matches is the easiest way to earn XP and Rank Up. Be rewarded with bonus XP for your daring feats of skill. For example, you may find yourself well rewarded for killing multiple enemies with a skilled grenade toss. Unlock all your favorite weapons and upgrades from the story campaign as you Rank Up.

Modify & customize your weapons -
Upgrades you purchase can be slotted and unslotted from weapons at will, with some even giving your weapons a distinctive visual look. Purchase upgrades for weapons that best suit your personal playstyle. For example, the fan favorite Bullseye can be upgraded with Explosive Tag – which gives your Bullseye Tags and extra explosive kick. But keep in mind if you’re killed, your enemies may pick up your upgraded weapons and use them against you!

Connect Everywhere –
You can connect with the PlayStation community no matter where you are via Wi-Fi and 3G through social features including leaderboards and NEAR, PlayStation Vita’s location-based service. Through NEAR, Resistance: Burning Skies introduces a new social perk awarding players valuable XP multipliers to carry into multiplayer battle. Stay tuned as we get closer to launch for all the details on NEAR.
Online play in Resistance: Burning Skies will feature three game modes – Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and a very unique third mode which we’ll be revealing next week. There will be six playable maps, taking you everywhere from the streets of Staten Island to the docks of Bayonne, NJ. You’ll be able to vote prior to each match, allowing you to take the battle between the humans and Chimera to a variety of locales from the game.
Resistance: Burning Skies will be available in North America in stores and on the PSN May 29th for $39.99. But you don’t have to wait til then; if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, join us to go hands-on with Resistance: Burning Skies multiplayer next week! Read the details and RSVP here.

2. Yeah, but it's a pain. You have to do a factory reset and have a different Memory Card when you switch accounts.

Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance could be on its way to Vita.

This is according to a recently revealed slide (thanks Shack) from a developer presentation at an AT&T event - Sony's 'preferred provider' of Vita's 3G service in US. The slide shows logos of games from '3rd party PS Vita partners on board', all of which have been announced except for one - Metal Gear Solid Rising.
Konami released a short, cryptic teaser for Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance earlier this week which pointed to the announcement of something new on April 30. Could it be a Vita release?

Yea I'm looking forward to picking up Mortal Kombat on Friday. Never been a huge Kombat fan (a bit before my time) but it's great to have a new, expansive game on the Vita that I can sink my teeth into.
